Local Comms Blackout - Discussion Thread

I don’t disagree with you there, but in the end it’s still a case of supply and demand. If “the market” is willing to pay 2b, or 1b, it’s the price that will be asked. You and I are both old enough to remember when you could buy a GTC for 150m. If you had said back then that it would be 1b, people would have been up in arms too. Yet here we are.

Well if we’re talking economics then PLEX will be fine. There’s more things than ever to use PLEX for so even a few hundred people not using it for subs anymore will not effect the market as much as you think it will. Historically PLEX prices only go down during sales and temporarily during game changes (like blackout) only to go back to a rising average shortly after. So no, all these people quitting the game won’t harm PLEX prices significantly and people will continue to pay for PLEX to sell as always.

Back in the day when chat would go down “for no reason” we’d all be flying blind whether in high-, low-, null-sec. Was fun. The advantage was always to the ganker, and it forced miners to tractor those damned giant secure containers behind their Bestowers as fast as they could to get into a station. No cloaking, no countermeasures, these weren’t even a thing. Just insta-fear because they were prey and the predators were all about taking advantage until the game itself went down.

It was hella fun. and I was one of those miners :stuck_out_tongue: I may go play in null again with this change. The trick will be getting past the low-sec mobs that’ll be thick as thieves on the fringe of the real action.

I fully agree.

Hehe use wormholes to get behind the gate camps! No one will see you get deep into their territory unless they also station scouts on each wormhole exit, some of which don’t spawn until you enter the other side of it. I’m quite looking forward to it.

Or it might be one of your corpies. Or one of alliance members passing the system. Or one of harmless explorers just trying to steal some relic site. Or …

It’s always funny to see wormholers not having ideas that not every passer-by is enemy by default. Professional deformation it is!

I am pretty excited about the loss of local in null sec. Null sec or “Dull sec” as some called it, was far too safe and this type of change has been long overdue.

I believe the largest empires will shrink both in member size and territory controlled. This should allow mostly medium sized alliances to thrive and small alliances to have a chance to live in null. I don’t believe small alliances will be farmed as some say, and perhaps several smaller alliances will work together in one region for the benefit of all.

I also believe this will pretty much be the end of the major rental alliances, which will open up more space for new alliances to enter and be good for null sec. It will be too hard to defend great swathes of space with jump capability, static gates and constant wormhole travel behind any front line.

Hunters like myself will be spending more time in null sec. I expect new corps or groups will be created like Wingspan or Bombers Bar to hunt in null sec. I also expect more traps to be used and a possible, faster escalation increase during some fights. The blackout should inject a much needed boost to the previous lack of content found in null.

I wonder if this will finally make black ops used much more? Anyone need a max black ops pilot able to use all 4 races? I may have to start watching for a good corp to join.
