They lose nothing, seeing as most null accounts are plexed anyway

Gameplay breaking? How pathetic can you get, seriously. Null was always supposed to be a dangerous place but every update has reduced that risk, from back in the day when they introduced warp to 0 on gates, to player owned jump gates to cyno jammers. Delayed local is a big step in the right direction.

Every PLEX sold on the market was bought with real money…

I suppose it was inevitable that you’d see numerous salt/threats to quit posts on the change. MMO players tend to be massive on overreacting and whining when something leaves them unsatisfied. They’ll post anything to try to convince devs to change their minds.

Most of it is probably empty threats.

And you are sure that everyone posting in this intel channel is a legit person and not some image detecting AI which sends the intel after it spots someone with no blue mark besides their name?

Reality check, most people do not plex, it costs way too much time and energy.

Tl;dr: It is an interesting shake-up, however, now is not the time to do this. A complete rework of how PvE works in EVE, especially in nullsec, should come first.

So I have this feeling that this will, for the most part, get drowned in the screaming and those who actually see this post will skim it and reply “Lol cry me a river goon/nullbear/another epithet I haven’t yet heard”

This change affects a critical, well-known system that has been a staple of EVE gameplay. It offered very good, reliable intelligence - often times too much of it, forcing (and enabling) tactics such as AFK cloaking. It also made it possible to find opponents, or for two fleets to more easily detect each other.

Kill local or leave local, someone is bound to complain. Requests for this feature have been a thing for years now.

So, why do I tie PvE into this?

Because, in general, people in nullsec don’t play the game for PvE. PvE is what you do to facilitate your PvP. You get into your cheapest ratting ship of choice and work your way up to buy your Titan. You have branching choices, of course, it can be VNI -> Carrier -> Super, VNI -> Rorqual -> 2 Rorquals -> 4 Rorquals, but the mechanism remains the same.

Why is that? Because of the meta - Supercapitals are the kings of their back yard (Fatigue means it’s difficult to set up a escalating drop against an umbrella) and there isn’t a ship beyond the Titan to escalate to. The creation of umbrellas and lack of real threat to them beyond the occasional dreadbomb also helped the expansion of industry and made these ships much more accessible.

When it comes to massive fleet fights, electronic warfare wings have decreased in prevalence and use over the years and the tactical variety continues to even out at the level of “Titans, Supers and Faxes vs. Titans, Supers and Faxes”. Stuck with limited choice in fleet combat, the average joe from 0.0 is likely to start at baseline DPS or Logi go and rat himself into an Avatar.

Now, the fun thing about ratting is that it’s a very repetitive process with a low barrier of entry. The reward for each anomaly is more or less constant, and you could, in fact, complete a Haven or Sanctum in a basic ship such as a VNI. It is not possible to pick an anomaly that pays more and poses more risk to the player - to earn more money you can either use more accounts ratting in parallel or run anomalies faster - using a carrier or a supercarrier. There are elements of those anomalies, such as escalations or capitals that can increase your profit - they are, however, chance-based - again, running anomalies faster increases your chances of an extra payout.

At this point, you may ask - what does that have to do with Local?

Local is a vital part in managing your risk, especially if you are a subcapital ratter. It allows you to mitigate, to an extent, your losses - allowing you to lazily semi-AFK bash “red crosses” and collect your pittance while interacting with the outdated and abysmal PvE mechanics as little as posssible. As those ships are expected to be disposable, you will still lose a few - because you went to walk the dog or out for a smoke and someone ganked you.

As long as the net income was high enough - it’s all good, you fit up another VNI and keep going. Once you advance to using a capital in a bloc that has an umbrella, things change - not only does your effective earning power increase, you also gain a safety net in form of a cyno. Local ceases to matter as much when an umbrella is involved - it’s an opportunity to turn the tables on your would-be tackler and engage in a bit of PvP.

With those points established, if we remove Local from the equation we see that it impacts the “lesser ratter” much more severely than the Capital/Mining operation. They stand a good chance of hurting profits for smaller fish to the point of making ratting less profitable than other moneymaking activities.

For those, in the past years, we’ve seen HiSec incursions, FW farming alts, Level 4 bashing alts. Looking at the meta nowadays, I would say that mining using subcapital ships (barges/exhumers) in the presence of a rorqual could see an increase as it effectively puts you in the range of the umbrella.

Final verdict:

This is only one of many potential ways to look at the changes. I understand that many are looking forward to this idea as it will “bring salty nullbear tears” and “provide heaven for small gang pvp and blops”. It is a short-sighted way of considering this change, as it may lead to a decrease in viable prey for said gangs and a greater focus on capital ratting with backup.

The bigger X is the more likely a bot farmer is leaving without CCP having to spend staff time hunting and banning them.

It’s a good thing

oh boy, I can’t wait for coalition leaders to make threats again and get a courteous response of 100 drifter battleships on each keepstar the next day - because at this point CCP is capable of anything. /popcorn

Let’s see in 2 month when the content will be divide beacause less farmer how many resub stay sub.

Ah right, so they should cater everything to spineless ■■■■■■■ cretins like yourself who want big rewards with no risk. There has to be a balance between PVE and PVP, right now it’s heavily titled to one side. I pay for 3 accounts, I mine, I PVE, I PVP, I build… But you seem to think “your rights to play don’t fking supersede mine”. Boreoff dipshit and don’t comeback. Maybe minecraft would be more your speed.
