Its about the lamest of threats since experience has shown it usually accomplishes nothing. But if you continue to troll this thread I will report you. Stay on topic. Post relevant information.
Oh yes, I know my own squabbles have not been on topic, but now that we got back on topic, partially thanks to your meme I suppose, I would appreciate if you would stop ruining it so soon.
I do want to stay on topic. I just don’t want to be visciously attacked for stating my opinion.
I see this argument appearing quite often in this thread.
But people never talk about the other side of it. The HotDropper is willing to have ‘Fleet Backup’ waiting for the right moment, when they are around and playing at the computer… so why shouldn’t you have a defense force ready to protect the people in “your system” while you are mining or ratting or whatever.
The whole point of claiming nul space is that you protect it to make it yours.
Please Note: I don’t think AFK Cloaking is a good mechanic (nor do I support AFK Cloaking), but I also don’t think the solution is a blanket nerf to cloaks. The problem is ‘Local’.
It all needs to be addressed together.
I don’t want nerfs for cloaks either, I think cloaks are fine as they are and enjoy many playstyles of cloaking myself and wish to experience more of them one day (still never lived in WHs).
I do think that it is disproportionate to demand the defenders to have a defence fleet ready to fight hotdroppers 23/7, while the attackers only need to have afk cloaks 23/7 and can hotdrop the entire fleet any time of the day for 15 minutes.
15 minutes vs 23 hours of effort is not really balanced, and all of this is possible because AFK cloaked characters can become active at any time and cyno in any number of allies.
If AFK cloaked characters were unable to use a cyno (for example because cloaks leak cyno fuel over time), then I would not have any issue with AFK cloaks. I would actually enjoy trying to bait AFK cloaked bombers or bigger. The issue is that most of the time baiting is useless because of the AFK nature of afk cloaking, combined with the entire fleet that comes through the AFK cloaked ship when they take the bait.
Too may here have proven they do not understand the concept of time and it seems attempts to educate are useless.
If I had said nothing, I am sure someone would have repeated the broken record claim that AFK folks cannot hurt you, as if AFK people are eternally AFK. Time. They don’t get it. But eventually time will get them.
But is it too much to ask to have a defense fleet available when you are actually ratting/mining in system? I’m assuming you aren’t doing that 23/7, so no need to have a defense fleet ready 23/7. Just as the cloaky doesn’t have a hotdrop fleet ready 23/7.
Then it comes down to not knowing. Not knowing if a fleet is going to drop on you or not. But isn’t that part of claiming ownership of null space? You need to be able to defend it or it is taken away from you.
There is no need for a 23/7 defense fleet. It only needs to be around when you need it.
As someone else said, you only need to protect your miners/ratters when you are actually mining/ratting. So not 23/7 at all… unless you and your corp/alliance can field people 23/7, and if that is the case I am sure you should have no problem fielding a defense force.
The real issue here is the use of local as a defense force. People claim a nul system, then as soon as local blinks, run to the station till its empty again. That is not defending a system.
Prevents gray hair for OCD corps not knowing who is in their system:)
I do it all the time, but other people don’t want AFK cloaks here are some solutions.
To piggyback to previous suggestions of those options.
Haver radius around building for decloaking effect or cone from the sun only.
All development costs money, so throwing ideas out.
