Make probes scannable and destroyable and scoopable as yours

Even the ‘slightly deep’ safes are already problematic if people can simply make them anywhere anytime.

People can generally be found in the part of a system that’s in between celestials. Adding your functionality increases that volume where people can hide massively, which is bad for the game with no apparent upsides.

Just dissallow waping to probes that are “yours”, you have the ability to reconnect to them anyways. No need for probing those out for any reason. At least need an alt for the probe→scan→land in that scan to work.

Giving probes a big signature and easy destroyability would make it a tactic in pvp, Also giving all probes a new larger size would make them hard to carry around in big numbers , give scanner ships a dedicated probe hold where one could have 8 + some spares, other types of ships could not carry a bunch of them for the prober.

Probes themselves are pretty much untouched territory for the longest time.

So you wish to keep the bad idea in the game, but make it a multiboxing privilege for those who fly on their own? How is that any better? To me that makes it even worse.

Could you explain why we need to be able to scan or destroy probes? I still don’t see the purpose.

I am pretty experienced in PvP, but I fail to see the “tactic”. Please explain the tactical depth. Probes are usually moved every few seconds, so even if you can probe the probes, you will mostly land on an empty spot.

Then, if you actually can kill a probe, what did you really achieve? You still can’t catch the prober, you still can’t prevent him from scanning as he will have spare probes to replace the killed ones. All you add is an “annoyance”.

Comparing that with the downsides already mentioned… no. I am not convinced that is a good idea…

The idea might need more refinement, like to have the regular probing time increased and probing probes be nearly instant.

It has to have an aspect to it so that it isnt a worthless trait.

Then back to the drawing board…

So making the game incredibly worse for everyone else? No thank you. I live in WHs and simply need to scan dozens, if not hundreds of sigs every day. Why in hell should I even remotely like a suggestion that would make that time even longer?

Also i know this is an MMO, meaning the bigger, meaningful entities are against any change to the game that does not clearly help them or that causes trouble to them. As any change to the game that is unknown to them, not mastered by them, not leaked to them, is a possible threat. Knowing all things beforehand would be nice wouldnt it? So i only expect opposition in these forums, hoping that suggestions get to devs sometimes. Not as perfectly finished suggestions, but even as ideas.

Sometimes opposition against an idea is not some conspiration of people who wish to keep the status quo.

Sometimes it’s just a bad idea, and the person coming up with it failed to explain why and how it would improve the game.

“People are against my idea because they are afraid” is not a constructive way to discuss and improve your idea. Right now your idea is lacking a purpose and has negative impact on the game. Maybe we can talk about it and figure out a purpose, ways to mitigate the downsides until the idea makes sense?

For now I see that you wish to be able to destroy probes, which has little impact because they generally move faster than any ship, people have 8 of them, they’re small and people bring spares. If they can be destroyed people would simply bring more spares, so there’s no meaningful change for that gameplay.

What I do see is the massive downside that free warp to off-grid probes means people can warp anywhere in the system, which makes hiding and fleeing way easier than it is now, reducing the amount of confrontations the game has massively. That’s not a good direction for the game to take.

Most of us on this forum have been playing EVE for upwards of 20 years, so yes, we know a bad idea when we see one…

Yes, i dont know who are you, or what are you aligned with. Even if you “tell” me, i have 0 trust with people over internet, you could be anyone, i could be anyone. Also saying as the first reply a suggestion is being pointless and it makes the game worse, i dont see very constructive towards further discussion over the topic. Rather i could feel like i shouldnt make another reply.

I have already also given further suggestions in this topic for how to for example negate the “impossibility” for getting to destroying them and for how to make it hard to carry spares over just few.

I dont want to bury the mention for how larger alliances want no change they are not in control, to rule.

It doesn’t really matter who we are.

I’m here just to discuss your idea. You present it, explain why you want it and we discuss whether it’s a good idea, whether it has flaws or has ways we can improve it.

Right now we’re stuck at ‘you present it’ because to me it is not yet clear why you want it.

What is the purpose of this idea?

I am not part of any “big” or “meaningful” entity.

I just see my daily business and if I am going to scan like a 100 signatures and you are proposing to make that take longer so other people can probe out my probes and kill my probes while I am probing just to annoy me (because they can’t kill me anyway)… than that is the definition of a suggestion I dislike. And I think I have good reasons to. You just want to make me waste a lot more time doing basic work while there is no real noticable benefit attached for the greater good of the game… at least you fail to explain what that big benefit should be.

To extend the game in a direction, in a fun or a mattering way.

What direction would that be? Could you be less vague?

What if i proposed scanning should take less time? As you seem to feel its a wasted time even as it is now. With a change theres always + for some and - for the other.

Then I would still ask for a design goal behind that suggestion, because it would also have drawbacks: for example people finding and killing other people much faster, narrowing the escape window for those. This has consequences for the overall game balance between hunters and their prey.
And just “would be more convenient” isn’t really good enough imho.

Atm scanning for signatures is acceptable fast if you are good. But you want to make it a lot slower - because it would need to be A LOT slower to give people an actual chance to catch probes during the probing process AND warping to them AND killing them. Like 30 seconds for each scanning cycle. Right now its like 5. We are talking about 6-times the duration for scans… sry, I believe you didn’t think properly about the consequences of your idea.

One way could be to automatically be able to get a 100% scan for other probes in the probe vicinity, while scanning for your actual target, then go kill or damage the other guys probes. Only damaging would make a probe unable to scan correctly and recovering would not work, killing one would allow the scanner to simply deploy another probe to continue.

Currently having probes out they dont need any attention, they are there, nobody can touch them, 100% safety.

So I get the feeling you think it is bad that nobody can destroy probes.

Why is that an issue?

But it would be that fast for everyone, not just you. Youre a master at scanning, meaning you get to every target in the minimum time? Seconds for each scan, full implants?

The purpose for my suggestion is not that you could get to every probe at every time you attempt to destroying probes. Beating the system should be somewhat easy, but how often do you keep attention to your probes? Do you recover them immediately after youve finished your scanning for every site? Do you spend a lot of time aligning your probes to their perfect position? Those are the moments.

One could also warp disrupt a probe so it cant move its position.

You don’t understand the problem:
You scan. You get a 100% result. Now you need to warp to that result, lock the probe, apply any kind of damage to it.

Do you even know how long it takes for a short warp + lock? Even in an interceptor you’d need 20 seconds to reach that point where you scanned the probe and then get a lock. And who leaves his probes for 20 seconds in the same spot? Only newbros (and we don’t need more mechanics that hurt newbros). Any other scanner just hits “analyze” after a few seconds, making his probes disappear again and warp to another spot. So unless you make the scan-cycles of everyone a lot longer, you would probably miss 90% of your attempts to catch one anyway, because you cannot get there fast enough before he has started the next scanning cycle.
