…VICTORY?!
The situation was
bleak. It looked like the end of the Khimi Harar in Aridia.
With over a half dozen starbases losing power and abandoned by most of their allies, Khimi Harar simply could not match the LSH subcap fleet. Morale had failed, and Zaraevahr was resigned.
The only way to stave off strategic defeat lay in the War HQ in Zinkon. IF it could be destroyed, CONCORD would invalidate the war and resume protecting the HISEC pockets of Aridia, where the Empire maintained more than nominal sovereignty.
Facing this monumental task, Khimi Harar answered the call. In the wake of the Avada Ice War, Zaraevahr had secretly garrisoned a Leshak fleet in Haimeh, should such a day come again. Forty ships rallied at the Tet Hedu Ardanle in Haimeh in a mix of Leshaks, Guardians, and Prophecies. Having vowed to fight to the death, Seraghis ordered the fleet to run the infamous ‘Gauntlet’ seven jumps through LSH territory in a desperate attempt to reach Zinkon with enough combat power left to contest the LSH subcap fleet in a brawl.
As anticipated, LSH was prepared for this suicidal charge, greeting the fleet with Supercapitals in Hier. As ships got caught, Seraghis made a desperate call: “ANY SHIP THAT GETS THROUGH, DOESNT STOP UNTIL THEY REACH ZINKON!” With a Ragnarok on scan, the race was on. Roughly 80% of the Imperial Fleet arrived in Zinkon, where the survivors reshipped in the Fleet that was already in place from Shokal.
After a brief reorganization, Khimi Harar began their attack on the War HQ. All fighters were launched, and orders given to spread Radar ECM on the LSH subcap fleet that was surely inbound from Hier.
But it wasnt Leshaks. LSH countered with Nagas…
Stacking up beyond the range of even the Beam Laser PNIs, the disciplined Nagas began surgically volleying Khimi Harar’s Logi wing, commanded by Meja Lirnix, a Veteran of Task Force 641.
Flush with conscripts, the Imperial Fleet was severely lacking in Logi. Despite keeping transversal and trying to keep the starbase between the Nagas and the fleet, the Nagas continued to feed on the fleet. Individual ships were directed to warp off and return if fired on while Meja worked magic with what Logi was left. The fleet had to survive long enough to destroy the War HQ. Nothing else mattered. Ship after ship went down, constantly reinforced from the Shokal Fleet. The Leshaks were almost completely destroyed to a man. Wrecks littered the Vehan gate, and neutrals looted the field.
But all this time, the structure was taking damage…
Khimi Harar began to believe. This was actually possible.
The Fleet continued to pour damage into the starbase, but by the time the hull reached about 50%, the Fleet had been almost completely destroyed. Almost the entire Shokal Fleet, and the Fleet from Haimeh. With 50% of the structure left to go, victory was so close, but impossibly far.
With no other options, Seraghis ordered a retreat back to Haimeh. There, surviving crews would assemble into reserves, and make a SECOND last ditch effort before the starbase shields regenerated.
Stragglers made their way back slowly, too slowly. With only a few minutes left, the final reserves had to depart without their full force.
This time, the fleet made it all the way to Zinkon unmolested, but were greeted by LSH at the gate. Seraghis was caught, his ship destroyed. As his fleet continued to enter into Zinkon piecemeal, for a moment, staring at the starbase from his escape pod, he despaired. The last remnants of his fleet would be destroyed one at a time, and there would be nothing left to defend Aridia.
It had all been for nothing.
Fortunately, there were enough people left between those returning from Vehan, and those who remained in Zinkon. Directing the fleet from his escape pod, Seraghis ordered the very last remnants of his fleet to assault the War HQ and fight “to the last man”
And then hope began to rekindle. The starbase had suffered heavy damage, and the hull began to buckle. Khimi Harar watched in awe as the impossible became possible, seemingly manifested purely by their unwavering courage and heart. Lesser men would have quailed.
Realization kicked in. “They cant stop us!”
The War HQ EXPLODED in a blinding flash, coinciding with a message on all channels from CONCORD: The war was over!
Khimi Harar were stunned. Against all odds, they had won the day!
The losses however, were grievous. Catastrophic.
Nearly the entire Aridia Fleet was wiped out. Reconstitution will take time.
Imperial Forces lost 9 Leshaks, 20 Proph Navies, 9 Guardians, and 42 various support ships. Total loss estimates appear to be around $16B
However, all structures had been saved at a single stroke.
For their part, LSH losses were very light. A few ships were lost in Vehan during the return to Hier. Space Ghosts were the only ally to lend aid, providing defensive overwatch from Vehan. LSH destroyed several battleships and a Dreadnought.
And so, unbelievably, Khimi Harar has won the day. LSH remains far too powerful, but the courage and heart displayed by Khimi Harar has been proven. This victory is sure to shape the identity and mythology of Zaraevahr as they continue their journey in New Eden.
(GF LSH! THIS is the kind of EVE moment we all live for)
