what is concord pulling?
It’s like pulled pork.
The deliberate generation of a CONCORD spawn.
The practice seems to be used mainly by gankers and miners, to manage CONCORD spawns to their advantage.
I can see how one might, hypothetically, use that as a miner -
It’s Saturday night and one is worried about gankers, so one logs in an alt and makes a feeble attack on somebody’s Orca at the Ice Belt. CONCORDE warps in and vaporizes the alt. Then one logs back into one’s main and mines ice secure in the knowledge that the cloud of blue will keep most gankers away. Well, except Destiny Corrupted, who doesn’t know the meaning of fear.
So, why would one be banned for that?
And how would a ganker use this to their advantage?
you shouldnt be banned for that , and there are many resources on the internet explaining the concord mechanics :), one even written by James 315 himself.
As I understand it, if there’s a CONCORD spawn that’s not busy when a gank takes place, that spawn (or one of them if there is more than one) will warp to the site instead of generating a new spawn out of thin air. The delay for an existing CONCORD spawn is slightly longer than a CONCORD spawn generated on demand. Pre-spawning CONCORD gives a ganker a little extra time.
This also makes it possible to yoink CONCORD away from a miner who spawns it, or away from a gate or similar that was the site of a prior gank to prepare it for another.
They can also pull CONCORD back.
CONCORD pulling for offense/defense is better suited for gate camps.
For roaming gank fleets, your best bet is still local and d-scan and fighting/flighting.
I mean… taking out the mining drones and bonus to mining drones from the Orca no one will use the Orca , for compression you say ? there’s always a compressing station everywhere in space , ore hold is full ? just dock and come back not that hard. You are essentially making the Orca a boost bot at this point (which Porpoise and BC can do aswell) and forcing that Orca player to have an alt account to mine 100%. Granted most players already does have multiple account for that Purpose, but don’t generalise.
Your Idea just makes the Orca = Porpoise without drones but bigger cargo for… 25 times the price of a porpoise. Great.
Exactly as it was when it was released but you could also boost off grid so your miners in any belt/anom would get the benefits.
Cant wait these are great needed changes.
In fact, Dracvlad has an advanced humor skillset and has often been considered to have the best humors, but naturally he does not indulge in low quality humours.
I have hundreds of covetors and procurers stockpiled, I would be quite disappointed if they got changed to have paper thin tank on them, or if they got specialized holds which only serves to make them less useful. Don’t change them at all, or maybe just swap the shield bonus on procurer with range like the covetor. Just make rorqs not so immortal, you don’t even have to nerf their yield, the game will fix itself. PANIC duration at the moment is asinine, imho. Orcas i don’t really care, 2bn to mine “safely” at the rate of an unboosted proc. Who cares. Botting is more the issue and bots will use any ship that’s good.
edit: The retriever being kind of the redheaded stepchild of the barges, is virtually useless. I don’t know how to fix it exactly but it really needs love somehow.
edit2: give porps more scan res or another fitting slot so i can kill people with it even more easily
we find out tomorrow but the bet is on 1/4 of current EHP now across all barges plus their new specilizations.
So they’ll further rework it. Does it make sense the command ship also mines? Sorry you gotta actually yennoe work with others in an MMO.
I like using the Orca with a little bit of yield from mining drones. The issue is the AFK side of thing and as such have a process bay which needs manual intervention to move to the ore bay would be better. Also having the compression ability would be nice.
Don’t forget that I was suggesting that the mining barges and exhumers have an increase in base yield. But in any case I believe we find out today.
Apart from the ability to use the Orca as an AFK machine, I like it as it is.
If CCP make the mining ships even easier to gank that would be foolishness.
While I think I get the gist of the basics, I try not to analyze what tactics are good or bad because I never got involved with any CONCORD manipulation and didn’t feel like I needed to. I can reasonably take care of myself. I have seen people mining with a CONCORD spawn be extremely careless, though, because they forget or just don’t know that spawn will move away.
Once a bad idea, like trying to sit under CONCORD’s nose while you mine so you can watch more Youtube, takes root, it colors a person’s perception of subsequent events. The bad idea is the default and anything that breaks it is the exception. This causes people to later complain about unfairness when their expectation does not conform with reality. I warn people up front they would still be at risk so being at risk and having to earn your survival remains the default expectation even though I am ignorant of the practical or optimal tactics to employ in this regard.
Personally, like you suggest, I used Local and D-Scan and didn’t bother trying to pull a babysitter on grid with me.
Ok I feel like an idiot for being suckered in to this discussion especially since apparently later today CCP are telling what is going to happen.
But this process bay is a horrible idea.
Sure it combats afk miners and is a non issue for solo orca miners. But it’s a kick in the nuts for orca pilots that run fleets and actually use the ship as intended. It can be hard enough to keep on top of tractoring in fleet member cans, sorting out who the can belongs to and keeping a ledger of ores so you can properly pay people out at the end of fleet……. Now I have pointless drag action to factor in as well.
Reduce the role bonus of both the porpoise and orca and give pilots of those ships an in game mining ledger to make the “mining foreman” job easier and I’ll be happy.
In truth saying what I would like makes no difference. I am just waiting for the dev blog alongside a number of people who should in fact be going to bed… Both went to bed thankfully…
The issue of AFK Orca mining is well known and if people oppose anything that solves this without the nerfing of the Orca as a viable ship is quite likely to be an AFK miner. Yes it is a Pita, but it just adds one more action to what you do in a fleet, I would expect 5k as a reasonable amount. In any case it is not pointless as a drag action, it stops it being used AFK.
But I don’t expect that to be applied, it is much too simple and effective.
I have no issue with combatting afk gameplay as long as it doesn’t penalise active gameplay.
This penalises active gameplay.
5k is like 6 minutes of mining. Given that the solution to afk cloaky campers is based on a 20 minute timer surely the approach to mining should be consistent to that?
Not being an expert on botting I don’t know the details but surely if the inventory window is kept open in the same area of the screen a drag ore action wouldn’t be that difficult to automate. Seems they manage to bot more complicated things? No?
So it fails to deal with botters. Is a non issue for solo miners. But mining fleet runners……the people who this ship is intended for…… have to juggle this with all the other stuff that’s needlessly difficult, most notably trying to manage everyone else’s ore
CCP WHERE IS MY BLOG TO READ ?
Surely the best solution to AFK mining is to have to actively start each mining cycle…perhaps with a warning 15 seconds before a cycle ends to tell one to hit the button to activate the next cycle.
