Mining Notes

I’ll start with this quote from the ‘GAME DESIGN DIRECTOR’:

“I started on the EVE Online team while we were shipping Equinox and I’ve been here ever since…I’ve been through a trial by fire, both learning EVE, understanding the community

~June 2024… That is the date the person making decisions for all of us STARTED their experience with Eve Online. A whole 8 months ago.

I think I see reason why the game is falling off a cliff, content wise. 8 whole months…

And ignoring 50%+ of the players in the game as far as mining goes was just typical, and leaves the ENTIRE issue of mining still vastly unresolved:

“Once we have mining sorted out for you folks (null, as if he’s ONLY SPEAKING TO THEM!) I’d really like to make sure we’re tending to our other areas of space and making sure that they (highsec/lowsec) have a fulfilling piece of the mining pie.”

Did he really just OTHER highsec players?? ‘Those OTHER people that don’t mean anything…’

Are you kidding me? Moving vital minerals into lowsec only is still one of the worst ideas CCP ever had, right up there with Blackout. Not addressing 50% of the players who would like to mine is just metastasizing of the cancer.

Well, at least now I know I have no need to login for the next 8-12 months until CCP finally decides to address THAT part of the WHOLE MINING PIE. Thanks for saving me money NEW GUY (Okami).

Nice to be thought of, even if only in an afterthought. /s

Man, nobody care hisec and who live here they are just weirdos or gankers.

As the biggest mining changes during Equinox happened to null sec, as Equinox was an expansion meant to shake up sovereign space in null sec, it’s only natural that the focus of this dev blog -which is meant to clarify the intent behind the changes of Equinox for mining- is mainly about mining in null sec.

Or am I missing something?

You do know he is only 1/3 of the lead designers and that the other 2 have more experience right?

This dev blog and changes are a reaction to the previous changes they did to null. They’ve said that Null sec was going to be the focus since before Equinox came out. (Low sec was the focus prior to that). No one said the mining blog was going to be about mining everywhere. Equinox was what caused the MPI to spike, so they are correcting for that. Saying that more mining changes will come to other areas of space is just icing on the cake imo. (I am a High sec/Low sec player)

True. When you buff mining in null-sec (again), all other mining regions suffer (again).

The dev blog is predominantly about nullsec with a few broader afterthoughts, some of which were (IMO) inadvertently humorous in their wording. But I think there’s a concern that changes in null without accompanying changes to mining elsewhere could have an adverse effect on mineral exports from other areas of space (i.e., if null became self-sufficient for all necessary minerals).

The changes in Equinox, while not yet tuned correctly, still undid the mineral redistribution balancing from earlier expansions. So I feel like if they are going to let null spawn any desired minerals in their sov-held systems and now also increase the yield, perhaps they should examine and address mining elsewhere before they get too far down the line with null changes. Otherwise, they may end up dropping another economic bomb, this time on high and low sec.

I do think the dev blog mentions that at the end, doesn’t it? That it first wants to fix whatever Equinox was meant to do to null sec and then move on to balance mining outside null sec?

I can see why they would do it like that with small iterations instead of changing everything everywhere at once.

I’m sure they said that, but while I expect null changes will come relatively quickly (so as to quell the present screaming), it remains to be seen if or when they’ll get around to fixing mining anywhere else. Call me jaded, but the last fifteen years of playing EVE have taught me to take any statement of intent from CCP with a large grain of salt.

I think both are great ideas.
