It is actually an interesting discussion. It looks like their mission statement or objective is in direct conflict with the main group of posters on the forums. If I was in their shoes I would be digesting that with a certain amount of trepidation and concern. Personally I expect them to roll over and give in, it is not as if they are paid.
Well most people no longer care what a load of raving PvP sociopaths think (using Jonah’s words.)
Some people consider anybody that PvP’s, especially in hisec, to be a sociopath. All the while ignoring the fact that CCP consider Eve to be an open world game where PvP can happen anywhere, even in hisec.
Statistically speaking it is guaranteed that some PvP players are sociopaths, just as some non PvP players are; both groups will also contain psychopaths, egoists, altruists, and every other descriptor that is used to describe human behaviour.
This is true of every game out there and of life in general.
Maybe the team hasn’t got around to drawing straws to see who will deal with the mess.
Or, they could be patiently watching, taking names, waiting to strike when we least expect.
You all are being trolled by the ISDs in this thread… just saying.
I bet they just laugh at all of your suffering and back and forth in this thread, harvesting all the salt for themselves while getting a reason to hand out some warnings and potential bans as a cherry on top.
The Guiding Hand Social Club story was what sparked my interest sometime in 2006, something about Eve kept dragging me back through several trials over 3 years, and then it clicked in 2009.
You people need to realize that this is my world, and you’re just living in it.
Weird. Most of the posts I’ve had removed were actually on topic. All the ones where I’m just being a dick to other people who are being dicks are still standing proud for everyone to read.
The first is people that are paid to do the job. People that know how to moderate. People with a good resume and work history with references that can be checked. People that have a paying gig on the line if they get caught playing favorites or playing fast and loose with the rules they are told to enforce. People with no attachment to the game who’s forum they are being hired to moderate. People that are less likely to cross a line because it’s a job, not a meta game. Someone with a manager keeping an eye on him since it’s his ass if the guy screws up. A manager that doesn’t ignore the forum and its moderators because he’s spending all his time on Reddit and Twitter flexing for upvotes and retweets.
Then you have the second type.
Some yahoo pulled from the game that may or may not have any moderating experience but will work for free. Someone with huge implicit bias due to the years playing whatever part of the game he was playing. A guy who sees his former corp mates and current friends posting and hating that they are being obliterated by some other poster. Someone that might let a nasty post slide because the person writing it is always telling him how special he is and what a great mod he is. A person that may take advantage of the lack of oversight that happens with a volunteer workforce. A guy that knows it’s no biggie if he gets caught doing dirty and is punished by…what?..going back to play the game full time?
Now. About the three of you who are angrily pounding your keyboard into a big plastic pancake and crying about how you are loved and I’m just butt hurt. Read on a little bit longer. Back in the old forum, on one of my previous forum characters, I had an ISD who apparently loved me. It was embarrassing how he kept coming to my defence all the time. I didn’t say anything to him because I had no idea who he formerly was. Might have been my freakin’ brother for all I knew. But I did know one thing. Like some of you do now, I could push the envelope and get away with it.
You could PM back in those days and I’d get questioned all the time by other forum warriors about what the ■■■■ was up with this guy. I had no answer. All I could say is that it wasn’t good. I still think it isn’t good.
That list of rules applies to everyone and should be enforced against everyone equally. Type one moderators will do it. Type two moderators might do it.
Not passing judgment. Just putting this out there.
