I never like admitting the Pirate princess is correct. But ive been trying myself of late , just doing combat sites with 4 alts that i had active. Its quite hard but now starting to get the hang of it and that’s just combat sites
I agree but that will never happen.
Multiboxing is just the way how to make money for this game developers and as you can see in this thread, many players are very happy with that approach and even applaud the developers for that.
Plus, it seems CCP is in terminal phase and we just can’t expect any changes to core mechanics of the game or any new actual content. At this point, they rather claim the mechanic was intented from the beginning rather than claiming “yeah that is an exploit” because if they did so they would have to fix it and it seems they are not capable of that anymore.
And lastly, somehow this all works. We both can think anything about the game’s design, players can rant about sub prices all they want, but in the end, the player count is somewhat stable and money keeps pouring into CCP/PA pockets. Until that changes significantly (not just temporal PCU drop around holidays) the EVE’s direction won’t change.
On day one , you would have needed an astoundingly powerful computer to run very many accounts. Was RAM even up to 1 gigabyte yet?
Yeah. I’ve been thinking this too.
Just create a fairly easy to use macro program, so non-coders can still automate, and let them go at it. If one player wants to pay 50 subs, why not let them be 50 people?
It is surprisingly easier than you would think, if you automate right.
The mining barge just needs to keep selecting new targets when the one it is working on wears out, or return to base when it runs out.
It needs to immediately dock up if a new name appears on chat.
It’s one of those things where you had to be there, I guess. EVE on low settings actually ran OK on potato computers back then. Plus, the term “multiboxing” comes from back in the day when multiple instances often meant you were literally running them on multiple computers. (Hence multi’box’ and not multi’tab’.)
As many ways as you can say “multiboxing is bad for content” there’s someone else using it to create content.
Personally I feel multiboxing was a bad direction for CCP to focus on, because it limits them to a narrower playerbase which is more prone to both income and player declines. If EVE loses 1,000 players it may actually lose 3-5,000 active accounts, depending on how multiboxed they were.
From a gameplay perspective, multiboxing makes little difference. All you’re saying here is “I want to get paid more for my mining time”, and blaming unsatisfactory pay on multi-boxers. For every solo who wants to get paid more for his mining time, there’s 4 guys who want to pay less for the goods they buy.
Multiboxing is less beneficial for EVE than simply having more active players, but CCP sunk that boat long ago. For now it’s considerably better for the game than having few actual players and not allowing multiboxing.
CCP could possibly manage without multiboxing if everyone paid 2-3 times as much for their subs.
But apparently you’d hate that too. Plus it would literally kill the game.
Note: I don’t multibox and never have.
Why?
I play one game at a time. I can understand having multiple characters with many different roles to play. Why play them all at once? Unless you are a 30 year old virgin, living in your mom’s basement, collecting Star Trek and My Little Pony figures, and existing on a diet of Cheetos and pizza rolls… why would you? Some of you know exactly what I am saying, time to step outside and into the light.
because the game’s mechanics allow it to scale up profits that way. Each one of these characters easily pays for itself and every ISK beyond that is pure profit for the main char. And as long as mining is as simple aka non-complex as it is now, where the only real activity needed is 1-2 clicks every few minutes to clear the orebay or reactivate lasers (and still reaching near max efficiency with that), it will stay this way.
I feel attacked and I only have 2 accounts.
Those guys are a valid market. … except they have to have a job in order to pay multibox subs, so can’t be total deadbeats.
True, but each one also costs a monthly sub. And there is no reason why running 20+ accounts would generate more than 20x times the profit.
This game has slow pacing, so I can understand why someone with ADD, or who just wants to max out their sensory input, might decide to play 20 accounts instead of just one, for reasons unrelated to actual profit.
On the other hand, if they’ve got bot macros running, and the 20+ subs mine all day long while their owner is working at their job in RL, they could be using it to ISK other accounts they play for fun.
But botting is the only way it would ever make sense to mine for plexing ISK. The number of hours you have to put in to mine enough for one plex is well… you could just work 1 hour of overtime at your real job.
