This is right, but how can it be changed that would not upset people who have been playing for years? I cannot come up with a situation where all sides would be agreeable to fix that situation.

(It is something that needs to be looked into.)

It’s always been like this.
They ignore it, because otherwise people would be talking about the right thing.

The mistake everyone else is making is giving the farmers the attention they require. Instead of talking, for example, about my post, people talk about the farmers’ posts, putting them into the center of attention.

That puts all the lies and ■■■■■■■■ into the center of attention, too, which serves the purpose of accumulating more of them over time. It’s never about being right, wrong, or factually correct. It’s always about being incapable of dealing with opposition and trying to gather more support in hopes of achieving an echo chamber.

Basically how SJW operates. You scream loud enough and hope that enough like minded assholes flock around you so you can scream away those who oppose your ■■■■■■■■.

Which farmers are you talking about? Most established EVE players are farmers of one kind or another.

Farming might indeed be bad for EVE, but it’s well past the time that pointing out there are a lot of farmers is a “call for action”.

Something I’ve also noticed over the years is when people start trying to adopt the narrative of someone else for their own uses … and fail horribly at that, because they’ve never actually thought it through. :slight_smile:

I really don’t feel the need to worry about my post being wrong, inaccurate, or anything else.

Mission Agents: Boring, extremely grindy, repetitive. (I kinda wish players could generate mission content somehow, don’t ask me how though)
Exploration: Learning curve, repetitive, slow RNG.
Bounties: Broken AF. Possibly one of my biggest disappointments.
Faction Warfare: Seems broken. Poorly presented.
Mining: This can stay as is, actually makes sense in the economy, but not for gameplay reasons.
Industry: This can stay as is perhaps with improvements. But has a barrier to entry for newbies.
Incursions/Drifters/Invasion: All not newbie friendly.
Ratting from Hi to Null: Probably worth pursuing but isn’t advertised to newbies as a progression. Can get repetitive but tensions start in lowsec which keeps it fresh.
Courier Contracts: High barrier to entry.
PI: I seem to recall this was fine as is but wouldn’t excite newbies I imagine.
Null PvP: Extreme learning curve, extreme investment required. Newbies can easily feel hopeless here and it may depend on the corp and how they communicate. May not suit solo/shy/private people who still want to contribute.

Then there’s things like moon mining and building structures and stuff that newbies couldn’t even dream of touching or understanding.

Just my high level thoughts on the various aspects of gameplay I’ve tried. But the solution to keeping new players is still up for debate. I agree with OP that various things need fixing/improving.

It has nothing to do with Trigs, and everything to do with what new players experience within those first weeks of play.

The way the tutorial is structured, the most obvious ways to continue from there is to start mining or missioning. The tutorial/career agents also do a very bad job informing new players of what eve actually is. So combine these two extremely boring activities, with no knowledge of what eve is/can be, are we really surprised no one wants to sit through that and quit? Is it a surprise the only players we have left are the ones that enjoy afk mining or mindlessly shooting red crosses?

On a basic level, eve is just a bad game. The only thing that made it interesting was the player interaction and sandbox elements. However, these elements are being degraded or left stagnant.

New guys (or gals) can participate and have fun as long as you find the right groups to help you and you’re willing to contribute. I would love to see a few more adventurous newbies in our ranks.

Basically this. The gap is MASSIVE, and VERY apparent. Throw in the fact that people tell you you need multiple alts to be competitive(cyno alt, PI alt, market alt, whatever, etc), a new player sees the gap become THAT MUCH larger.

Then you have people burning out within weeks on account of the above, not finding a corp that fits them(thumbs up for rookie help, they make a big difference), and when you get oriented, it sinks in even harder just how far behind you are, with literally MONTHS of training.

Personally, I’ve taken a liking to relic/data sites and injectors bought from the benefits of the above. I’m in a pretty awesome Alliance, with good people. But fleet doctorine basically dictates that the majority of my weapon and ship skills(Amarr) are of little to no use, and now I’m in the process of cross-training to Minimmar. I’m a month away from basically any t2 frigate, then another week for weapon upgrades V (basically required). And who knows what else.

The training times have gotten into the week+ range (e.g. Racial Frigate V) I can atm sit in a BS for ratting in null, but I have no business being in one based on my skills. Now imagine I’m a total newbro (I played back when learning skills were a thing, briefly~10M SP) and I lose my spanking new BS. People will quit over it.

And fair, they should know by now the risks. But the game doesn’t have (imo) the proper pacing to teach that. Hell, it has very little guidance, instruction or training. What little there is is hidden behind the help menu.

Over and over do I see in rookie chat: how do I move my ship? How do I get titanium? Why can’t I hand this quest in, I have the item on me. Personally it took me too long to figure out how to donate isk to my corp, still don’t know how to see into a corp hanger I have access to remotely, etc.

We need some comprehensive, high quality instruction for new players, and honestly some higher starting skills. If the magic 14 are basically required, that’s over a month+ of training. Busy work, while paying $$$, with no real new progression in that time.
