Nerf Ganking Megathread

Glad that’s settled, i sincerely hope you find a way to change your point of view.

That’s not likely to change, so I’ll just get to the point. The newest generation of EVE players are idiots. CCP has came up with everything imaginable to coddle them, and they still don’t get it. They improved the NPE, and new players just skip it. CCP included a warning about warping away without your drones and what do new players do? Ignore it or disable it, then ask in help “how do I find my drones?”. I even had a few players yesterday ask things like “what ammo goes in a rocket launcher?” and “what is a hauler for?”. Then we spend another hour trying to explain to Alpha players why it’s a horrible idea to mine in a hauler and not a Venture, and what do they do? They go ahead and mine in a hauler anyway so they can AFK while they watch Rick and Morty. That is the mindset of the new players we currently have joining EVE. Like I said, it’s not looking good…

Let me ask you something, do you even remember your first day playing eve? what it was like? every vivid memory and detail? or do you just have a general idea from 11 years ago of what it was like for you? Because i gaurentee you, there was another person who was just like you thinking the same thing about the things you asked. You should be better than that having the experience that you have, or at least find a better way to enjoy the naivety of new players instead of having them trigger you with specifics. That’s a funny story but you’re twisting it into a pessimistic framing. Now do you want to talk about the topic at hand or do you feel like screaming into the void?

when it comes to player retention, one has to ask, who is CCP trying to retain>?
clearly not the veterans, the last few years have been a disaster.
Possibly the newbros, but in order to make the game more like the mobile games that are popular now they have to water down the complexity of EVE.
Lets face it, CCP is currently chasin a new generation that is known for not sticking around long while at the same time alienating the long term players (yes old people) The fanfest announcements made it clear, EVE is not about content any more, its about being pretty. graphics do not generate retention, content does

i mean its still a highly complex game, they just haven’t added more complexity to the end of it. Gearing any game for veterans is generally really a difficult feat because it requires a consistent flow of ideas, or developers run into some of the problems world of warcraft did where alot of their end game content was mindless grinding. i gaurentee you they aren’t chasing a newer generation they’re shooting for a broader audience. Better graphics attract more people, engaging content (which for people who havent touched the game before) keeps those players. However keeping the same systems in place, the way they’re designed currently allows for way too many oppertunities for exploitation and loses those players. So what would you rather have? a studio that doesnt make money or a studio that will go into debt to make you happy?

And again moved some Topics into here.

Sorry but, as you can see, you and others that post similar threads in this forum are in the vast minority…

Oh dont be so heart broken over it, give it enough time.

But do people actually buy according to current need ? I doubt I’m the only person who stockpiles ships and ammo all over the place with an eye to future need.

The attention span of new players is not short or anything like what some believe. My sister will spend 10 or 11 hours playing rust, but i guarantee she wouldnt last 5 min in eve.

The point of retention is to make ways to keep current and new players. Ccp is not doing a good job, but they may be thinking that the vets are ruining the game (some are tbh).

But as someone whose played off and on since 2011, i can see some new players against the training etc.

Some things do need some adjustment/removed but any interaction with players themselves do not.

But you stockpile on the basis that someday they will be useful… either as something you will fly or sonething you will sell right?

Neither of which applies if ships are invincible

Indeed. But I’ve never seen any stats on just how much is stockpiled in Eve and how that affects the market. Some give the impression they are almost living ‘hand to mouth’, but I suspect vast amounts are stockpiled in stations and that may delay or even negate the effects of scarcity.

I have 237 ships in just one of my stations, from frigates to marauders, that will never see the light of day. And that’s just one station…

Well what I’m hoping is that adjustments that would be made would shift the players interaction only slightly. how or what adjustments I cant say for certain i lack the experience.

But what I do know, is the intro to pvp content is an overly rough landing for a first timer and I don’t think that’s by design. i had a lack of info, alot of revenue, and no idea what to do with it. i think after the first 4-5 days i had read somewhere up to 20-30 wiki pages and was still ganked.

Now throw pirates with alts into the mix for your average weekend warrior and its waaaay too easy for experienced players to pull one over.

That’s because life moves a lot faster now and people have less time for how it used to be and the mwchanics haven’t really changed to reflect that.

Time moves way faster now mate. Nobody got time for that. It’s as if the game wants the sort of playerbase who have some cash to spare, but with mechanics that heavily favour no life cheetoh eaters who live in their mums basement.

It’s nice having loads of ships ( I have about 150 ) and not having to worry so much about losing one. I suspect I’ve also made a lot of ships that will never see space…I’ll probably sell them to pay for better rather than letting them rust.

True. But you need to connect player retention to suicide ganking and demonstrate that it has an appreciable effect. Can you do that?

…by raising the price of a sub…?

Source?

This has always been the case (see: bounties circa 2012 and before).

I can and I will deny that.

If you want to argue that HiSec ganking is “ruining the game”, you need to post factual data. You can’t.

Couldn’t agree more…one of the few things we agree on, though from different sides of the coin.

The other day I passed Macgybo while I was in a shuttle in 0.6 Juunigaishi. A very quick mental calculation led to a ’ go for it ! '. Alas he was gone by the time I returned from Uedama with my battlecruiser…which I would have wasted on a Thrasher. Even if I’d failed, it would be glorious to be blapped by so experienced a ganker. And if you yourself ever gank me, I’ll consider that an honour too…rather than something to go running off to CCP about.

Not only does ganking prevent highsec becoming utterly boring…it also provides high profile people to evade, or to even have a go at. What’s to complain about ?

i mean do you want personal testimony? i was on the brink of quitting yesterday and today because i thought this game was just another dieing game filled with haggard angry old dust bags who physically cant let go of “their” game. Me and everyone else who has a problem with the games mechanics are directly giving you volunteer feedback as to why we’re leaving. So much so you all had to make a mega thread due to how often it gets reported because people think this is an issue that’s going unreported. like what you want facts? scroll up. look at the testimony. if you want to know why i havent quit its because ive found people within the community who arent washed up debate lords stomping their feet like toddlers at any opportunity to improve the game. look at photon ui. literally what is wrong with it? its a wonderful improvement that im sure some ux/ui developer should be really proud of. yet a majority of the feedback has an underlying tone that screams “I DONT LIKE CHANGE WAAH” like god damn man. How can you guys even wonder why the devs dont give you any fan service.
