Just my 2 cents:
Ganking actually did teach me how to play the game properly. I did start as a hauler:
Got ganked on Jita undock doing probably a scam courier contract: Learned to be aware of scams and have Insta-Undocks. Contractor actually tried to reimbruse me because I was relativly new.
Got smartbombed in Lowsec: Not really a gank but I learned that sub-2s-align doesn’t always help you.
Got ganked while warping to an NPC Station in HS with my BR. It was a station where you can’t directly dock. And also the next station to Jita where you can sell Trig/DED stuff: Learned about instadocks and that people do camp/gank at popular trig selling stations.
Someone tries to smartbomb me in lowsec with my BR: I was cloaked. Person did see me coming into the system, knew the timing and simply started the bombs and hoped that I die. I did not but he jumped the gate after me to chat how low I got. Actually that was fun.
Gankers kill my Abyssal-Gila: I see flashy yellows in system. Take the risk and think that the “yeet directly again” thing will help me. Did not work.
That was just my ganking experience. Not actual PvP stuff.
But all in all. Ganking helped me learn the game better and be a better pilot.
Without these lessons I would probably still fly my BR like an idiot because I would simply think that “ship has cloak”=“safe”.
However I have never been ganked in a miner. And I was AFK mining a lot when I started. So maybe people over here are talking about other kinds of ganking.
You will need a probe launcher on it for WH probably. I dont bother mining in WH. You will probably be better off with a prospect for WH, not the endurance.
Princess knows that I will one day come running back to Highsec like a scared defeated miner the moment Frostpacker gets its experience of living inside WHS.
New Eden has so much to offer and if you stay in the one spot you might as well become a statue.

CCP however, by omission and lack of correction does want people to labor under that delusion. Drop $300 usd into plex and skill injectors to fast track into a carrier because you think it will own the game.
As Coach Subway found out the hard way, it does not.
Punisher is fine, but you should get some real ships for killin’ stuff already. We just declared like 20 new wars and are about to be swimming in targets.
Oh…I have plenty of those, and I have billions to w̶a̶s̶t̶e̶ spend on more.
Just created a Gnosis fitting with 800 DPS…though the range is quite short. But it can finally take out that loot Gnosis that lurks around at Uedama ( and which zkillboard shows has hardly any tank ).
