You kids and your wacky names for dropping boners on fuddy-duddies.
That is easy, it is a long term Eve player who has seen several different playstyles that they invested in either destroyed or made impossible by CCP development choices.
Hisec Suicide Ganking in itself is not griefing as such. It is piracy or economic warfare when applied to resource gathering.
Aiko(s) is of course confused as it was not intended gameplay, it was emergent game play based on game mechanics . If Aiko(s) can’t get that right?
A couple more questions answered, did that help?
All I hear from everyone (regarding the PCU) is how ganking needs to stop because new players are getting ganked and quitting. In my 2 years in eve, I have been ganked a total of… 1 time. This was when I was autopiloting in a heron with 50 mil of loot in it 3 months after I first joined (or some number like that). I wasn’t angry because I knew exactly it was my fault for autopiloting. I have warped faction and deadspace fit paladins through Ahbazon just because I was too lazy to go the long way… never killed. I’ve fought off a small gang (just targeted and made tackle warp off and warp away XD), solo, in a T3 abyssal fit Phantasm. I was killed AFK ratting in a Gila in null-sec a total of… 1 time. I just don’t seriously believe ganking is a problem. Is it?
It is not. Grindbears gotta whine though.

All I hear from everyone
Stop listening to people who know very little
Also, in before some akshual geenius who will point out in detail why we are all wrong and should be very very sorry for having fun
As well as the ZOMGer who will equate it to a pogrom.
I’ll type slow for those Amarrians who can’t read gud.
No
No, ganking is not a problem
It is just a large part of how the game works.
Once is one time too many. This kind of behavior shouldn’t be allowed in any game. Why it hasn’t been criminalized by world governments is simply incomprehensible.
Q: Is HS ganking really a problem?
A: Only if you are an afk carebear.
In eight years as an almost exclusively hi-sec resident I’ve been “ganked” once. My mistake was ice mining in a Retriever and thus being the weakest ship in the belt. I don’t do that anymore - I use a more appropriate ship.
I learnt.
I take sensible precautions against those pirates. Fly appropriate ships, pay attention and so forth. Situational awareness is possibly the most important thing. Watch local, mark known ganking groups as low standing, and so forth.
CONCORD, like real world Police and the Courts, punish crimes after they have been committed. In the case of a Capsuleer attacking others in hi-sec they destroy the offender’s ship and put a black mark on their record (security status).
And again, as in the real world, if person is willing to accept the punishment then they can view the cost of committing the offence as acceptable.
“Ganking” isn’t in a bad place at the moment - it, and its inconvenience, is a cost of doing business. I don’t have a lot of respect/time for those that engage in it - that’s my personal opinion: it feels like a slight bullying and abusive was of playing - like kicking a child’s sandcastle over and claiming some great moral superiority for it.
At least the chap that ganked me had bought the ammunition he used from me. It doesn’t cover the loss, but is some small profit in exchange and a bit of satisfaction.
I ignore the moral issues in that.
And there lies the Tarek Romaller position on ganking.

Just as legit as your mining
Welcome to EVE
Again merged some Posts into this Thread.

A few years ago, I watched a report on a program in which they detected crimes before they happened, and jailed the future offenders to prevent them from committing them. If they can do it in real life, surely they can extend the program to video games too? I say that it’s time to bring EVE’s criminal justice system into the 21st century.
Was Tom Cruise in that documentary?
I believe he might have done the narration, yes.
Only a minority of people even saw that documentary

The devs have literally said its intended gameplay.
LOL so now we’re just outright lying huh? Awesome
No he’s being pedantic about “was” and “is”
Though ofc that may have been the original intent

Just as legit as your mining
More legit than your assumption.
I rarely mine now days - that Retriever loss was on my first ice mining trip. It may have given me a jaundiced view of the merits or otherwise of ice mining.
I like making things (ISK generally!). I’ll buy stuff from miners - it’s like barking when you could just pay a dog instead.
Assuming that those of us that live in the Empire just mine is like assuming that the only thing that happens in nul is semi-afk ratting and Rorqual mining. You know “elite gameplay”.
Actually, one of my more interesting activities is helping deter gankers/pirates from the trade routes in Empire space. Our discovery is that, like any bully, the wardeccing groups aren’t that keen (or able) when someone declares war on them and goes at them seriously.
Interesting things happen in Hi-sec.

The devs have literally said its intended gameplay.
Yeah, there’s a problem though. They seem to be laying the groundwork for throwing ganking under the bus. Sure, Ratatti explicitly said ganking is safe, but it was like his presentation on “newbro griefing” was written by a card carrying member of the green safety brigade.
I’ll point you to this post, just in case you missed it.
