Nerf Ganking Megathread

Concord mechanics force gankers into DPS races with cheap glass cannons. What other strats are there within the confines of ganking? I mean it’s not like we can alter how math works.

No true Scotsman fallacy. You’re essentially saying that what we do isn’t “real PvP.”

The hell it does. It is trivially easy to reduce the chances of being ganked to damn near zero. And it doesn’t require skill points, fat wallets, or large numbers -just knowledge.

There is an absolute crap ton of things that you can do before the gank, and even stuff that you can do during the gank. The real reason people say this is two fold. First we have the No Counterplay Fallacy -which basically amounts to, “if I don’t know any counter play options then that means that there are no counter play options.” Second, we have the “Asymmetric Fallacy,” in which people complain that because they can’t win a DPS race against specialized glass cannons designed to win DPS races, then that somehow means there is no counter play, or that ganking is unbalanced. But here’s the thing -ganking is assymetric game play. You have different win states, and different strats at your disposal in order to achieve your win state. Thus, your mining barge/mission runner/hauler/whatever doesn’t need to be able to go toe to toe with gankers in a DPS race.

There might be hope for you yet.

No. It is possible to appeal to different types of players, but you can’t make a game that appeals to everyone, as some players have mutually exclusive desires. When it comes down to it, some people are just not going to like certain types of games, and a whole lot of people don’t like games that feature Unrestricted PvP (see the arguing that goes on/went on in Albion Online, Eve Online, Sea of Thieves, Star Citizen, Ultima Online, and even Elite Dangerous, which is a game I’ve been telling people to play when they complain about UPvP in Eve). TLDR: If someone quits because they got ganked, then that probably means that Eve wasn’t the right game for them, and that they should give me their stuff before they leave.

Well, it would cause more than just economic problems. It would allow players to optimize towards boredom, make it easier for people to fall victim to the PvP readiness fallacy, undermine feelings of mastery and relatedness, diminish the variable world state provided by competition and PvP with other players, make the game a lot worse for hunters, and massively damage many people’s faith in CCP and the direction of the game.

But, once again, I think there might be hope for you just yet.

Absolutely not. This is still a skill based game. SP, wallet sizes, alts, and friends do offer advantages, but at the end of the day, none of those things are sufficient nor necessary to get kills or have fun. Hell, have you not seen all the people complaining that ganking is unbalanced because ganker ships are too cheap? Hell, we even have people making a similar argument for whaling. Needless to say, at least one group is wrong here. They can’t both be right. The game can’t be unbalanced because it’s too easy for cheap ships to kill expensive ships, and players need to buy plex just to be able to compete/participate. You know what I’m saying?

And now you’ve gone full on conspiracy theory. Meh. I kind of want to address this, but that requires a wall of text in and of itself. So, maybe later.

I just want to reiterate that you cannot make a game that appeals to everyone. I mean, does Elden Ring need to be made easier in order to appeal to more people? Does DOTA need a PvE mode? Does Planescape Torment need 90% of the dialogue stripped out to appeal to players that don’t want to do a bunch of reading?

So why then do people keep asserting that the UPvP in UPvP MMO’s is a problem in need of fixing?

They get blown up, if you think balance is to defend the lazy and stupid think again.

It is even easier to walk away from Eve and it’s evil reputation at that point, is that what you want, are you keen on seeing new players go before they even understand the riches of Eve. You say whine, but they don’t even get to that point, so I am not sure what you are trying to say, seems like a bit of a snide comment about your own prejudices?

Explain, 1 catalyst is not exactly meaningful revenge, still if they use a cheap frigate to9 nab them on the gates and allow the fac police to wipe them out it is kind of at the same level as their Venture, so maybe it is fine?

Can that apply to gankers too? It has to be more than gathering an army of alts?

I have no idea what you are saying here, it just seems to be another variation on the you want to end ganking slogan when you waffle off on risk.

So my first command to you is simple. Setup a ship like this:

[Crucifier, Neg Ten 2]
IFFA Compact Damage Control
200mm Rolled Tungsten Compact Plates
F-89 Compact Signal Amplifier

1MN Monopropellant Enduring Afterburner
Balmer Series Compact Tracking Disruptor I
Faint Scoped Warp Disruptor
F-90 Compact Sensor Booster

Dual Afocal Light Maser I
Dual Afocal Light Maser I

Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I

Warrior II x3
Acolyte II x6

Scan Resolution Script x1
Optimal Range Disruption Script x1
Radio S x2

Set up on a gate, when Catalyst or Thrasher jumps through, lock up point and then orbit at 15 km with AB on, apply tracking disruptor guns and drones and enjoy the salty tears of the ganker. This is fun, imagine doing this to Aiko(s)? And the clue on who you go for is in the name of the ship.

The same Nullbears who play Titan self distruct chicken cause they have two or 3 in their hangers?

Eve Online: Self destruct chicken with titans

Does Aiko(s) have a ganking permit? I don’t think so, so you can freely engage. -10 too, so enjoy, I am sure she won’t mind after all she likes PvP? And you would be showing your strength and skill to her.

Im flattered but Im very much an anti monarchist.

You can call me Aunty Ramona though if you like

Nice, but yeah it is important to orbit at 15 km, have the AB on and have them tracking disrupted to reduce optimal. You could orbit at 20 km might be better. but note the range of the point is 22 km so you do not have much margin on that, but do 20 km.

So first command complete right?

Did it blow up, can’t see it on Zkill atm.

But did you enjoy that?

If so set up random gate camps in the places they operate. note their scouts. See how many you can blow up before you lose your first ship. But well played sir, well played indeed.

Makes you a ganker and an anti-ganker if you want. In this game you can be anything you want? But if you do this on another players ganker characters it is more fun. Note that most gankers are not set up with a prop mod unless they set up specifically for you, and that is why you move around and apply it as a trap and move on when noticed by their scouts.

I’ve noticed a new Dracvlad behavior,

He’s now referring to Aiko as Aiko(s).

Did I miss something here? Did she get cloned or something?

Aiko(s) runs 5 accounts amongst several things, must be that? Anyway, it is nothing to worry about.

It is a good thing when people realise that ‘free ISK’ in Eve are not free at all. An Omega subscription entitles a person to a faster skills queue and the use of T2 ships. It does not automatically entitle them to X amount of ‘free ISK’ from ore or gas, etc.

Thus the miner should be in danger, and at risk, as they seek to squeeze ISK from the collective pool. They are mining stuff everyone else is just as entitled to. If you correctly see Eve as a fight over limited resources…then why should a person seeking to just sit there hour after house sucking in ISK not be in any danger ? When I see those Orcas and barges sucking their way through belts like hordes buying 100 rolls of loo paper at a time from the supermarkets…I see the most prime candidate for targeting in all of Eve.

The vast majority of us have alts. Should we pluralize everyone, Dracvlad(s)?
