Nerf Ganking Megathread

Had no idea Eve echo’s was massively pve (didn’t even try it) damn that makes an excellent resource to steer Eve in the right direction.

Maybe Eve Echo’s is CCP’s 200 iq play to show eve in an alternate reality if some people got their way.

You can’t have an MMO with a functional economy unless you either:

  • Destroy enough stuff or have perpetual sources of consumption to keep item turnover rates reasonable. In the case of EVE, it’s straight-up destruction. Some games, like WoW, consume items in the form of farmable resources that are acquired at rates below their break-even usage rates (for example, leveling professions on a character will consume more resources than that character can accumulate normally during the leveling process), so the economy is healthy and actually requires players to do additional resource farming on top of regular gameplay, either for personal use or to trade/sell to be able to buy other stuff.

or

  • Power creep, which is essentially a mechanism for devaluing items periodically in order to provide incentive for continued gameplay. As an example, in WoW (again), this takes the form of gear sets/seasons that make older gear outdated for the purpose of doing newer content or taking part in PvP.

It can also be a combination of both.

EVE has no power creep, and unless you want to see a new “Mk. ##” of Ravens released every six months, it probably shouldn’t. And we all saw how most players reacted to “scarcity.” So either CCP figures out a way to continuously consume player resources without relying on combat, or I guess we’ll just have to keep blowing up the stupid carebears. Either way, someone’s going to have to lose the value of their labor, or the entire thing just won’t work.

All that’s needed for that is ship and module degradation, which should have been in from the start.

That would never have worked in the early days. There was already enough destruction as it was.

Not a bad idea for today’s risk adverse player base though.

One way to add it simply is by adding mineral cost on top of isk for repairs.

Thats another good way to drive every player who doesn’t mine out of the game. Not because of extra price, just the extra inconvenience.

No ships could repair in space without an extra hold for the minerals at least.

All arguments for why replacing a system of player-driven destruction making for a more entertaining gaming experience than the mining screensaver we’d have without PvP aside…

…Can you give us a solemn vow that all of the carebears wouldn’t throw a shitfit over having their assets devalued by 30% every month, and would actually view this as a good addition to the game that they’d always support once it is implemented, as long as they no longer have to occasionally lose a ship to the sociopath griefers?

I’m a carebear and I’m fine with it. Everyone else’ mileage may vary.

From all the whining on the forums at least, I think they would. And that is the sad state of affairs in the game these days.

Players forget what drove the numbers up to 50/60k. It was the large battles. Even if that’s not what you wanted as a pvp’er, there was a lot of smaller wars. “EVE grew to fast”. No, CCP didn’t know how to handle those numbers I guess.

And what the hell happened to the grammar police??? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

My hypothesis is that they would tolerate exactly two weeks of this before the CCP dev death threats start piling up on Reddit.

Yes, compromise is good as long as your side isn’t compromising, right? Do you have an alternative or are you just sticking with “carebears bad!!!111!!!”? Funny how the gankers tell miners to adapt, but cannot handle doing the same themselves.

Where did I say carebears are bad? I did pi, can’t get more carebear than that. We have been on the forums for yrs trying to argue out a balance.

It’s like gambling to me. The house wins. Only in EVE, the house is the player base. We have 1k times the minds working on how to beat the odds. CCP hardly stands a chance against that. Not their fault, just massively outnumbered. CCP continues to ignor advice from the players and CSM. So Cool Hand Luke - Failure to communicate - YouTube CCP trips over it’s own feet and compromise is tossed from one extreme to another and alienate it’s player base at most levels it seems.

I am in agreeance with what you just said, so much so that I would go to great lengths to refer to you as Princess Ramona.

Do you accept?

I’m not sure if you’re joking or not. But she’s not far off.

He also accused me of being Aiko.

I think that is where ccp is making large mistakes. Unless you’re an older player that got the benefits of a much better in-game economy, this game is cost prohibitive. I wish I had been playing even 5 years ago. I hear people brag about their wealth in-game all the time, but I bet you they couldn’t do that now if they started over completely and didn’t take stuff from their main accounts.
more than half the videos on youtube are still about old mega battles and wars. They arent talking about anything happening in the current game, because there isnt anything happening in the current game. All the attempts at fixing a healthy economy have backfired, and from what I can tell from reddit, here and youtube, ccp is not one to take a lesson and take a step back from their changes. They talk about stagnation and losing players and real markets of players, but they won’t take an actual look at the state of affairs in-game. instead the push out lies claiming the economy was dying and was ruining the game.
If these forums, reddit and youtube are correct then people had a bunch of accounts and basically the entire community had shifted towards self sufficiency and solo production and activity. You guys mock people that pay monthly and I dont know why. Maybe you’ve been in the financial position to drop hundreds of dollars at a time on a video game, but that is not normal. especially doing it over and over for the same game with no significant content generation. The ccp stream the other day they were talking about how some revamps of mostly useless content will happen next year, and another change in 2 years, and yet another change in 3 years.
I’m no game developer, but from even my little bit of understanding of the process it looks like they don’t even start developing stuff until after they have already announced it. When was the last game changing content? the triglavians taking over part of highsec? was it the seige green update that pretty much killed smaller corps? was it taking away resources from everyone in order to starve nullsec mega alliances?
Before the triglavian thing, when was the last content? This game seems to be all about years and years of stagnation before anything is done. the mega nullsec alliances seem to know they cant sustain their mentality and playstyle so they rage all over the forums and reddit about pretty much any and all changes. oh, is it going to ruin the game to sell ships directly to new players? No, it isnt. It’s going to take a slice of your cornered market.
Look at who is on csm. it’s always people from the mega nullsec alliances that are in bed together in perimeter. they seem to have been the only voice ccp listens to and they are only and all about nullsec. The top leadership of some mega nullsec alliances state over and over again that the people in highsec need to all die. They arent saying the characters need to be ganked, they are saying the people need to die. with that mentality and csm being pretty much only nullsec leadership it seems that every change has been to the benefit of nullsec and the exclusion of content for anyone else. Years later they are trying to make changes to put a dampener on those nullsec people but they punish everyone else in the process.
Listening to the ccp streams it becomes pretty clear that all their announced changes will take years, but do they really have that long? It is friday night i have not seen the launcher account numbers go anywhere near 20 thousand logged in. Right now it’s less than 14 thousand. Obviously people are sending a message to ccp with their time and money but there is nobody there to listen. It’s been this way since I started playing but if you listen to reddit, youtube and these forums it wasnt always like this. This is not sustainable.
