Do freighters not have capital sized wrecks with appropriate HP? That sucks.
You should be left something more satisfying when you kill something that big.

You seem confused.
The introduction of the CRAB beacon didn’t shift the meaning of the word “krabbing” upwards, leaving more room at the bottom to mean “not-krab”. “krabbing” simply expanded to include more.
It’s not like you “were a krab before”, then the CRAB beacon launched, then the meaning of “krabbing” translated towards end-game content more, so now you “aren’t krabbing”.
That’s not how language works. Which is why I am still confused why you think this beacon is so important to your “I’m not a krab” krabbing definition.
The meta of null shifted most people here have cap alts. I’m new to sov nul having previously lived in Venal, so I don’t yet.
The mention of cap skills was to say, I don’t even have the ships and skills to do it properly. Running the odd site in an Ishtar is a long way from the optimal Nul earning.
Again I’ll ask the question. Does krabbing have a meaning beyond someone who avoids pvp to purely earn in nul sec. Members of that set who are just here to watch numbers get bigger?
I think there are a few uses of the term. It also means nullsec players that would rather earn ISK than PVP. Not that they don’t pvp ever, just that they’d rather earn ISK and even if there is a stratop or a CTA, they are likely to either skip it in order to PVE, or alternatively will be running alts that are PVEing while their main is on the fleet op.
But it’s one of those terms that started as an insult, and it gets used in a range of situations to insult. F1 Monkey and krab (and they often go hand in hand, because the krabs are also often just F1 monkeys too).
Yeah it’s people with severe loss aversion so they can still PvP but it is only typically with other Krabs so that none are risking their ships so none of them really ever lose their ships – hence the “severe loss aversion” definition. And hence the tie-in to the “F1 monkey” monkier.
“I’m not a krab.” sounds suspiciously like “I’m not a miner.”
One look at my kill board would tell you I’m not loss averse. I’m terrible at pvp and lose a lot of ships.
One look at your killboard tells me that you have been playing EvE for 3562 days, losing an average of 572’000 isk per day, worth the equivalent of 0.48 cents per day. I’ve met Highsec Orcas which are less risk averse than you.
That’s one way of reading it. Another would be to look at the actual losses during the times I’ve been actually playing.
I am quite loss averse, hence my careful choosing of fights. I’m continuously working on being less risk averse, by taking new fights purposefully to try to learn or get something out of it.
People can make fun of my caution, but I have fun, and learn, and strive to improve.
There is zero wrong with being cautious and choosing fights you are confident you can win. Some people like to do their research and some people like to have a go and hop in a ship. I’m of the latter kind.
If I’m lucky I learn something from the loss. In one on one fights I tend to actually convo my opponent and ask what I could have done better. Much the way people should do with HS gankers.
My biggest problem is manual piloting which I’m terrible at. I blame that on my dyspraxia though
WTF??? The forum ignore function failed? Why do I see his post when anything else shows as “VIEW 1 HIDDEN REPLY” ?
EDT: the post I quoted turned hidden after I posted this weird. And btw I still didn’t read a word despite it wasn’t hidden by some bug!
Im glad thats all cleared up
I don’t care about EHP, I am not calculating how many catalysts I need. But barges and exhumers tank increased significantly and that goes for empty ship. Retriever’s base tank was increased more than 100%. It was already possible to make a fit that survived two t2 catalysts before, now it is possible to fit retriever to effectively survive 5 of them (60k ehp without faction modules, implants, and boosters).
That to me seems unbalanced actually for a 40mil “noob” ship.
Technically you are right, it is still possible to solo gank untanked hulk in highsec with talos, but solo ganking didn’t really rely on scanning the fit beforehand and since the Hulk can easily be fitted to even survive talos, the risk is way too high not to mention the cost. Because warping to the belt with neutral character alt could easily scare the victim especially if you scan her, it can be noticed even with passive targetter. Not everyone is stupid. And mining with alt in venture for long minutes to not be suspicious is not really something I want to do. I past I just found a belt in 0.5 with hulk warped there and approached get in range and tried it. It didn’t work everytime, but since most players are greedy af, I got a kill most of the time. Since I was doing this solo I was not able to use -10 alt and thus I had to fix my security status and that also meant I was not targetting their pods. Wasn’t this more healthy against them? Sure not that many players were doing this style of ganking, even before, the majority of the gankers just threw dozen of t1 catalysts on them because why not.
But what really did changed with those buffs to barges’ and exhumers’ tanks?
All in all, what I see is that CCP acomplished to completely remove one type of gameplay, nothing else.
Yeah I can see that the industry rebalance hurt your play style. Which is a shame.
Personally I was glad of it because they gave me back almost all the SP I wasted in mining when I first started the game. Still have those unneeded hulls. Can’t win them all I suppose.
The best thing I can say about Vokan is that he is currently actively ganking. He is an interesting poster because he is actually posting honestly and not playing forum games and is keen to try to explain his thoughts.
Prior to the adjustment to the tank of the mining barges and exhumers fitting a tank to four out of the six ships barely made any difference. Now if you fit a tank it is harder, if you fit just for yeild you will be ganked by a single Catalyst in 0.5-0.6 systems in those four ships. The key thing is choices, fitting choices, fit for yield and fit for tank, this is what CCP has done and it is good balance in a game which is rock, paper scissors…
He makes a comment about a 40m ISK noob ship, but when does price come into it, and a mining barge is not a noob ship you have to train into it. My mining alt has a lot of SP invested into the tank.
It is totally possible to gank a mining ship fitted for yield, and you have to up your game for one that is tanked. That is a good balance.
Going through his points:
Large ganking groups have a lot of ISK and assets, and have a large number of multi-boxers, they have always done this when ganking miners and often overkilled before so they are fine.
Miners are not crying as far as I see any more than they were before, I am not sure why he thinks this.
People have often used more Catalysts then they needed, I see the same people using the same number of catalysts before and after this change.
I have not seen anything like that change in argument detailed in terms of 2/3/4 to how can I survive against 10. I have a Skiff fit that can survive against 10 Catalysts. To make comments like that he needs to link these arguments. Because at the end of the day almost all the miners I spoke to were happy that CCP finally balanced them correctly.
The mining ships are still being ganked, as I keep saying the balance in terms of mining ships is now correct, this was good work by CCP.
Vokan is one of my favourites too.
Perhaps in a retriever or covetor but the ganker would be extremely hard press to pull it off. Before the EHP buff those were my primary targets as a solo ganker but I had to use a fully fitted tech2 cat with void to do it. After the buff, I’ve left them alone because 1) I don’t use alts, even to scan ships fittings so I most always go in blind, and 2) I don’t use implants. Even if I got lucky I don’t think there is enough firepower on that cat to finish it off in time.
I know this hurts a bit for you and it has impacted your play, but for me this is decent balance based on the fit for yield or fit for tank decision that miners must make in hisec.
Is that really a choice? Surely you fit for yield and just avoid being ganked as opposed to fitting on the off chance they won’t bring more catalysts than any miner could tank?
