QUICKLY ! HOP IN ! That looks like a fun thread over there.
@Altara_Zemara A word of warning. Lucas has been extrapolating griefing to cover all of hisec ganking. He conveniently pretends not to be aware of any difference between the two, and will state that “CCP” says so too. That is the short version of hours of back and forth today. Have fun.
Since when was a tautology an argument ?? Simply arguing that water ‘affects’ plant growth tells people absolutely nothing they don’t know already.
Of course ganking affects player retention. So what ? In and of itself it tells you precisely nothing. That plant in the corner of my room needs water. I don’t solve that by emptying an entire bath full of water on it…or by leaving it for 6 months to see if it dies.
People leave games for a myriad of reasons. Some were never that interested in the first place. We have zero stats on ‘how many’ leave due to ganking. And even if we did, we have zero stats on how many would not have left for some other reason.
Simply arguing that ‘people are leaving due to ganking’ is little more than a Chicken Little style ’ the sky is falling down !'…full of sound and fury, but actually signifying nothing.
Its a waste of everyone else’s time to have to write War And Peace length posts to have to explain every single statement to a level of depth that your mindlessly contrarian semantics can’t produce yet another evasion to.
Aiko has it right…I admire her ability to hit hard with one sentence.
my mom canceled all your concerts in Poznaniu, aiko, while my dad smiled amused as he nibbled on a piece of pineapple, all while we were going for a family ride on our s6…
What your ‘argument’ totally overlooks is that for every noob that may leave due to ganking, you are equally going to get people who leave if there is no ganking. Of course, not least the gankers themselves but also an even larger number of people who enjoy the cat and mouse of it all as the intended prey. Yes…there are loads and loads of people in Eve who enjoy zooming past ganker camps, etc, with a ‘phew !’ when they get past. It’s Tom & Jerry in space for a lot of people…and fun !
I had to warp 57 jumps to Amarr earlier today. God how boring that would have been with no ganker threat. I might as well have just put it on autopilot and played Doom. And how thrilling it is to see the systems left reduce as one watches out for trouble on the way.
Remove that from highsec and you are going to cheese off a LOT more people than all those noobs you claim to be trying to retain. Then CCP would really have a ‘retention’ problem.
I’m pretty sure CCP will have seen this other side of the coin.
Sad sad Hawko, he has only been playing barely more than a year longer than me, just a sad pathetic little helpless newbro miner, GRIEFED by me. He was just trying to learn how to play the game. Alas, elite antiganker guru theoretician carebear mastercrafter Lucas did nothing, did nothing, was too busy posting in the forums and did nothing.
WHY DIDNT CCP BAN ME? LUCAS SAID THAT CCP IS AGAINST ALL THIS GRIEFING AND THEY WANT TO RETAIN THE PLAYERS AND GRIEFERS ARE HARASSING ALL THE NEW PLAYERS BUT WHY OH GOD WHY DIDNT CCP DO ANYTHING? WHY DIDNT LUCAS DO ANYTHING? WHY DID THEY JUST STAND THERE AND WATCH WHILE THIS POOR NEWBRO MINER WAS GRIEFED???
It’s really in vogue these days. You’d be surprised at just how many man-bun-wearing 43-year-olds in “open relationships” have so much free time and disposable income that they can dedicate nearly their entire lives to progressing the “social agenda” in obscure communities like this one.
A survival game I was playing on Steam last year had people threatening to murder the devs on the forums if they didn’t turn all servers into PvE servers because it “wasn’t fair that those servers are full and ours aren’t and we want to play on servers that have other people in them” because logic.
What you’re doing here is called “experience shaming.” You’re attributing a level of competence to players based on their play time, instead of based on what those players state their competence level is. This is basically real-life discrimination that you should be banned for. If a player states they they’re a new player, then it shouldn’t matter how long they’ve been playing; they’re new. Just because someone is flying a deadspace-fitted marauder doesn’t mean that they’re experienced. If they state/believe that they’re new, then ganking them if griefing, and shouldn’t be allowed.
I mainly have data for the stuff I’m interested in, which is keeping my freighters safe; but post analysis where it’s valid.
That it often doesn’t support the many unverified claims made in the forum as though they are fact isn’t a surprise. The arguments against ganking are often filled with emotion, so people post what they think is logically correct, but it often doesn’t match up to what evidence shows (and that’s over a long period consistent with things CCP have said also).
However, if data showed ganking (or any game play) in a bad light, then so be it. There’s no point hiding it, since the advantage of the data is anyone can go and verify the same outcome themselves. They don’t need to take my word for it.
So what’s the unverified claim this time? Is it this:
That doesn’t even need data. If the Fanfest presentation includes a statement by CCP that “statistically the highest volume type of ganking is griefing” or similar, then that would prove that statement true. If CCP never said that, then it’s be false.
Simple proof either way is to just watch the video.
