(New) Character Creation System is absolute garbage (Pictures inside)

I don’t think people are against that idea. But the execution is just beyond awful. Just look at how people with deep knowledge of the lore got utterly confused about it. Imagine how poorly a new player with no knowledge about the game will understand it.

Yes, you cannot even pick an Amarr face and combine it with dreadlocks right now :frowning:
the hairstyles don’t tie to the empires but the to the faces.
You can have a Brutor Amarrian that has dreadlocks, but not a Khanid Brutor that has dreadlocks, which makes no sense at all ^^

I’m not a fan of this myself. This “upside” as some might wish to call it comes with significant downsides.
When the lines between the races blur, then each races’ history grows more and more irrelevant.

This reminds me of a technology they’ve talked about maaaaany years ago, called DNA.
Dynamic Nurbs Application. The idea was to enable people mixing races.

If I take into account the Triglavian threat as the “one enemy against all” …
… and EDENCOM uniting the empires against this “one threat” …
… then you can kiss your races’ respective histories more or less goodbye.

And I’m really not saying this as a fan of the idea, it’d just be the natural outcome.
There’s no(t much) room for, example, minmatar people fighting oppression when amarrian looking characters spawn from the same schools.

To me it depends a lot on how they execute they idea. EVE is a game with rich lore and they shouldn’t compromise that just for achieving mixed options like this.

I hope they remove it, and make it a secret hidden option to be honest. I like the change, but I don’t like the execution and I don’t like that this will lead to tribesmen that cannot be recognized and newer players maybe not accepted in certain corporations just because of their looks :frowning:

What I found strange was that…

I created a new alpha account - it has the old character creator, I can select bloodline and all that.
I created a 2nd new alpha account - it has this new system where I don’t explicitly select bloodline.

it’s like… some players will have this option, some players will not, and there’s no explanation why.

It’s baffling.

Stop dumping half-baked stuff onto TQ without announcing it or even by the Omnissiah’s grace TESTING THE FEATURE.

It denpends on the age of the Account I think.

If they go the way I think they do …
… then a new page in history will be opened …
… which simply means there’s only little room for the old history.

That’s not about mixed options, but about how the (new) player sees himself in the game.
This kind of mixing hints at “one population” against “one common threat”, rendering the past irrelevant for the present.

The eventually coming new NPE, with Triglavians being an integral part, will render it all obsolete.
At some point people like you and the others will be the only ones left to care.

I’m actually sorry for the outlook.

If this universe falls apart, Komi will just build a giant spaceship and find a new home for her tribe :§

speaking of lore. Ammar treat Minmantar as a slave and minmantar hate Ammar so much, then this A minmantar that looks like an Ammar which is some kind of a joke.

Seconded :frowning: Why remove options and lore and the wonderful flavor that Eve has for its story?

Yeah. I definitely dislike the “one population” vs “one common threat” style that they got going on these days.

Already a lot of the old flavour that’s gone.

The more I think of this the more I think it’s not actually all terrible.

The idea that you can choose any Empire and any school and still look like whatever is a good one at heart. The problems start when there’s still choices but you’re not told what the choices mean.

Even just not calling “face” face but giving them bloodline names would fix a lot. I’d call them “stereotypes”, which would stress OOC that they are not the only choices, just the usual ones, and not even maybe typical ones in-universe, just what people think are typical.

Then if you just could detach face stereotype from clothing stereotypes you’d be all set.

You could make an Republic Military School graduate who looks like a Khanid and dresses like someone from the Gallente Federation. And you’d know what you’d be doing. It would be neat, and it would be immediate story.

Without labels, it’s just… every human is the same, there are no distinct cultures. Your clothes are not Amarrian, they are what FACE TYPE 4 gets to wear.

The thing is, ‘blood line’ doesn’t make sense with cloning technology. The human dies and a capsuleer is born which can look like anything the owner wants.

Add onto that how people were suggesting consolidating the noob areas into one place rather than scattered across hi-sec.

The new system makes more sense.

Yes, but presumably the human would still know what they look like. I don’t think anyone’s saying remove the possibility to pick any facial features, they are saying

  • label the features so people can decide to “look kinda like Khanid” instead of “look FACE TYPE 11” and
  • don’t lock clothing options to face type and gender (which, yes, the current version does)

Quite the “progressive” “utopia” …
… where everyone’s equal and no one’s distinct.

Clothes, btw, don’t really add to distinctiveness nowadays.
The game’s quite anachronistic in this regard.

Maybe they really are implementing their mixed race sculpture technology at some point soon-ish.

Agreed on both accounts.

Just bringing new perspective into this. Old body type selections with 6 body types allow for people to pick a face closer to their dream face.

Also, I think CCP shouldn’t spend so much money on UI designers. If they do change the actual UI in game a bit so everybody likes it. But better spend money on content designers or just people who know how to run a MMO without making it pay to win.

Also, it’s less distinction between races, especially with gun types. The “racial gun” thing used to be interesting and made for nice diversity, interesting metas, etc. With introduction of 2 new gun types that are totally independent of gun types today, it’s kinda changing this “interesting inequality”.

It’s not too bad in the eyes of a non-roleplayer, but I guess I don’t see the point of a new character creator when people are so used to the old ones.

(maybe to stop bots from creating characters? dunno. just change some pixels and most bots would break. add some pixel noise to the final image or something)

You can make a portrait of a boot in the new creator.
