New Character Lineage

I had a vision just now of starting the game with the NPC pirate lineage, blood raiders, for example.

The hisec islands in lowsec, surrounded by lowsec could be transformed into a pirate career agent system.

This would increase people in lowsec, have a pathway to increase severe negative faction standing with npc, while also allowing pilots to jump right into the fight.

I think it would be soooo coool to have an npc pirate corp, so, i heard some positive feedback on this idea already, so, decided to make a forumn post

The problem is that there’s almost no pirate content.

I think it could be neat. I’d be concerned that newer players might go “ooh cool pirates” and get themselves huge negative standings with the empires or end up in low/null way sooner than they’re ready for.

I keep expecting this play line to show up. Maybe next year’s Fanfest?

@Arthur_Aihaken raises a very good point. There just isnt the kind of content available for pirate factions to make starting there a very enticing choice for new players.

I think this is better off being a decision you make with a new character as an established player, immediately launching into lowsec and null. I’m not convinced that this is a good idea for the brand new.

I think this idea is as old as the game. For some reason CCP hasn’t gone with it.

The only option is suicide ganking, And for that new players can join existing corporations. Assuming someone in rookie chat will tell them about them instead of “ganking is bad, don’t do it” …

I am also very doubtful that new players who would want to play a space pirate exists. I tried to advertise my suicide ganking corp like that and even stated it is suitable to new players, but no new player ever reached out to me. Or any other ganking corp from my alliance…

Are you sure that didnt happen because suicide ganking is a boring, monotonous and repetitive way to play the game that doesnt really appeal to new players?

But new players don’t know that! :stuck_out_tongue:

Isnt too hard to suss out..

Also, what isn’t monotonous and repetitive?

I see highsec players haul couerier missions there and back over and over for hours. I see them mining every day, at same spot almost whole day. I see them running level 4 missions every day almost whole day. And they are perfectly happy with that.

The only thing that breaks their monotonous and repetitive gameplay is when we gank them. And then they are angry af and starts wishing us cancer or death directly.

Yes there are players who are switching content, but because the way how the game works and every content needs a different ship and fit, most players specializes into one thing that they then do over and over.

Content specifically:

Scannning and hacking is the same and gets boring after few days if not hours.
There are only so many NPC missions and most of them players decline because they can’t run anomatic or because they don’t want to lose standing with empire factions or because they are too long and annoying.
Mining is an epitome of boredom, this is not even something I would call content.
Hauling is just set destination, undock, jump jump jump jump jump dock, finish mission/contract set destination back jump jump jump jump jump jump dock. Hauling is only fun and exciting if you are hauling billions and only because of gankers. Otherwise it is boring and repetitive â– â– â– â– .

I’d disagree and say there is ample, i mean, ample content with this idea. For example, sansha has a massive piece of null. Opportunity and content abounds.

Agree with this concern, my thought right now is that if they start out in it, in these little nifty pockets of HS greatness, they will be less scared to travel into it.

If i had the option to have started out as a pirate, i would have, definitely, im certain a lot of people would, and, its not like hisec isnt right there ya know  still a pirate npc starter corps, would be awesom i think.

I do very much like these discussion points, and that goes for everyone replying

Some pirate factions do, yes. But we lack epic arcs for about half the other pirate factions.

oooo, very good point, perhaps maybe then it could be split, there is that one career mission that asks capsuleer to look him up if the pilot wants to follow the path of eye patch. Perhaps, maybe, if the pilot wanted to jump, it could expand on that. agree though, other pirate factions still need epic arcs. At the same time though, i think the two scenarios, lineage allighnment and epic arc are two seperate aspects of the game.
