I’ve never understood the sentiments that “EVE should become more like other games”.
Since the gaming industry can be seen as something that is driven by “survival of the fittest”, it’s apt to compare it to evolution in the natural world. I will use competition between lions and cheetahs to demonstrate my point here:
Cheetahs often have their kills stolen by lions (among a long list of other predators), and Lions are more numerous. Should cheetahs try to imitate lions? No! Cheetahs are not properly equipped to steal kills from other predators, and forming into larger groups does nothing to change this. When a kill is disputed by these 2 types of predators… the lion will always win.
On the other hand, I’ve heard cheetahs have the highest success rate in hunts of all large predators in Africa (assumed fact here). Should Lions adapt their hunting strategy to more closely resemble that used by cheetahs? No! Cheetah’s hunting strategy relies entirely on their record speed which a lion simply cannot match.
Just as in nature, longevity and success in video games depends on finding a niche in which your game is competitive. EVE trying to be WoW is like a cheetah trying to be a lion, or vice versa.
You’re not far wrong, Cheetahs are successful about 58% of the time making them one of the more successful feline hunters, among felines only the, much much smaller, Black Footed Cat is more successful, beating it by a couple of percent.
African wild dogs absolutely dominate with a 85% success rate.
As an 08 toon and almost as pissed as you, I would ask you to just go alpha and keep an eye on the game. This could go many ways, (most bad, lol) but I do see an opportunity in it for some of us. My accts unsub next Feb and I’m still gearing up for that. But in the meantime, I will actually undock/look up old friends and try to get something going again.
If the numbers drop, so be it. If the game folds, so be it. Something had to be done.
Goons win the game because their able to work out solutions to game changes faster than the rest of us. For a change, I’m going to try to react faster than them.
The only sympathy I have for null is the instablap from a npc. That just doesn’t seem right.
I’ve had a few glasses of wine again, so alas, I still think we are where we are because of the decisions the CCP upper management have made, the cash grab - the sale to Pearl - and here we are now less than 20k people online - it speaks for itself and the blame is not hard to direct - CCP Hilmar no doubt thinks he’s awesome with designer jeans - the reality is he’s let a ship sail into choppy waters, wasted a lot of player sub cash on failed projects never realised so down the pan and 20k concurrent now in eve - if anybody thinks CPP Hilmar has no blame to all of this - then please clap him as he appears on stage at the next diminishing eve meet to announce “grand new visions” that will reverse all of this - I don’t believe anything can now - unless anybody wishes to say I’m wrong, CCP have lost the goodwill of the community which is clearly reflected in the numbers atm veritas.
PvP is now dead. EvE is dead. I agree with you %100.
I’m sure you will be leaving this terrible game. I’m sure I will be following you out soon.
I would gratefully accept any isk or things you might graciously give me on your way out…just to show not everyone who played this game was a selfish toxic sociopath jerk.
I’ve played this game for close to 10 years, had so many amazing experiences on this market character and my flying ones - all has changed now - CCP sold out the core ethos of this game for cash grab - we are where we are. I haven’t played for 3-4 months now, the group I’ve flown with for 6+ years are kind of the same. I’d wish the old eve back and the community but it’s never going to happen now, and Hilmar and his grand visions sold the community up a river so I genuinely hope all thing relevant happen as a consequence. If Hilmar and CCP are blind to the obvious (and the csm count for nothing) then the forthcoming is inevitable - if anybody thinks I’m wrong, please endeavour to tell me
Darn, I was hoping to see you in Amarr again. Well, EvE was fun while it lasted, I suppose…
If you have anything you’d like me to do with your stuff when I leave this idiotically-run disaster (which will be pretty soon I’m thinking - I dunno how much longer I can put up with ccp) just drop me a note with the contract.
If you thought station bashing was ever fun, then you are the demented one. Also, it’s really easy to take shots at asset safety if you have nothing of value. I actually have valuable stuff, so yeah. Asset safety is good for me and thousands of others.
Maybe…but if you go into a fancy restaurant you have to pay more so the restaurant can survive…are you willing to pay 45 $ or 45€ a month so you can play with your 5000 other “restaurant lovers” and the game makes profit in the process?
If not you have to obey to the casual way eve will go…
PA isn’t the issue. That CCP would sell to PA or EA or any A was no surprise, at least to me. What I think happened was, well, some burnout in the CCP management ranks. They’ve been doing this a long time and it was in need of a lifeboat for the foreseeable future. And PA had the interest and the cash.
One thing I have learned in many years of IRL corporate management. For all of our investment in analytics, and the calculated and measured way in which decisions are made (wahahahaha), we really had no idea what we were doing.
Boeing is an example and CCP/PA is no different. If they screwed the pooch, we’ll know soon enough.
