New Module: Stints

TLDR: New module for slot reassignment. One-time install, limit of 1 per ship.
. . . . .

Stints are a new module that allow a limited (one per ship) slot reassignment. Details follow:
• 3 sizes: Medium (battlecruiser), Large (battleship) and X-Large (capital - not supercapital). Cruisers have been excluded to avoid potential issues/abuse with T3C. Supercapitals could probably be included (no ideas on the pros/cons here).
• 3 types per size (9 total new modules) that grant one additional slot: High, Mid and Low for each size.
• PLEX only (NES store): X-Large (200 PLEX), Large (100 PLEX) and Medium (50 PLEX)
• Medium requires 250 powergrid and 50 CPU, Large requires 500 powergrid and 75 CPU and X-Large requires 2500 powergrid and 100 CPU.
• You cannot exceed eight (8) high, mid or low slots on any ship. You cannot deploy a high stimp to a high slot, etc. Once placed a stimp cannot be moved (only destroyed). Stimps are immune to heat damage.
• Ships can be sold (on contract) or traded with an installed stimp.
. . . . .

Examples:
• Rattlesnake owner would like one more low slot and decides to give up a high slot. They installs a Large “low” stimp in a high slot (reducing the number of high slots to 5), lose 500 powergrid and 75 CPU and receive 1 additional low slot for a total of 7 low slots.
• Orca owner would like one more high slot and decides to give up a mid slot. They install a X-Large “high” stimp in a mid slot (reducing the number of mid slots to 4), lose 1000 powergrid and 100 CPU and receive 1 additional high slot for a total of 7 high slots.

Interesting concept…

So how does adding a ‘Stimp’ for another mid slot work?

Would there be a choice of placement for the ‘Stimp’, meaning either a low or high slot?

Hard pass. No gold ammo allowed.

Yes. Assuming the ship in question doesn’t already have 8 mid slots, you purchase the appropriate class of “mid” stimp from the NES store and decide which low or high slot you’re going to permanently sacrifice on your ship (since you can’t place the type of stimp you want in the same section). Drag and drop to your fitting window and voila!

As for the other comment, this isn’t gold ammo - it’s intended as a one-time customization (similar to rigs). It doesn’t change the total number of slots and only allows for reconfiguration of a single slot. Since this could potentially make really interesting fits it’s supposed to be expensive.

If you want to change the appearance of your ship this also costs PLEX, so I don’t see the issue (since you can readily convert ISK to PLEX).

it provides a gameplay advantage that can only be obtained by spending real money. It doesn’t have to be a consumable to be gold ammo.

Until CCP adds a way to deal emotional damage to enemies with the sheer swagger of your SKIN, this is a terrible comparison.

Only if there’s no ability to convert ISK to PLEX. But since there is, you can still obtain stint modules without spending real money.

I did specify the NES (and not CCP) store. I also didn’t make it a requirement that the stint modules would be locked to character accounts, so there’s nothing preventing players from buying these for PLEX and re-listing in-game for ISK, etc. (similar to skill extractors, etc.)

The original gold ammo could be resold. Hard pass.

I think your reading comprehension here is severely lacking. If you don’t like the idea, that’s fine - but I’ve rendered all your “gold ammo” and “real money” arguments moot.

It’s literally gold ammo. You are exchanging PLEX for a combat buff. That is what gold ammo is.

It also sets an awful precedent imo. Look at skill injectors.

First we had “your skills are your skills, slow train them and deal with it if you don’t want it anymore.”

Then it’s “well we’ll sell you extractors but any SP generated will be done so by players training.”

Then CCP justified selling small amounts of SP since they were taken from botters or something.

Now they just straight up sell SP and don’t even give a damn about explaining where it came from.

CCP has repeatedly shown that giving them an inch results in a mile taken. I see no reason to give them any more inches.

So it’s not so much the idea as an anti-CCP stance.

Probably a nightmare to balance, but interesting as a concept.

Did you really need to post This again?

I thought this variation was more refined…

  1. Can be bought for PLEX, and sold for ISK.
  2. ISK can be converted to PLEX to purchase directly from the NES store -or- purchased for ISK through player markets, contracts, etc.

How exactly is this pay to win?
