No, I quit playing because everyone I enjoyed playing it with quit, because most people just naturally move on after 10 blistering years of the PvP you mentioned which evolved from wolfpacks and actual tactics into huge pillars of massive ships that don’t move and just sit there melting each other.
The scams got old. The spinning got old. Dust drove a lot of them away, as did the death of actual 0.0 enterprises that weren’t completely PvP-centric like the ISS, and the folding of some of this game’s best corporations. My whole point is that I really don’t see anything that would reverse that burnout. At all.
While I agree on the whole cap proliferation issue (I dislike caps, they’re boring to me and just result in blobbing) you can still do fine solo or in a smaller group. It just takes more effort. The trick is to being ok with being the underdog (or actually enjoying it).
I don’t mind being the underdog. Never did. I lived most of my life in places like Syndicate and the far south where mongrels fought over the scraps that drifted down from the north and the southwest, but I’m specifically talking about how the game has evolved in such a way as to not offer the ancient bittervets any real reason to reforge their lives here.
I mean, granted, I’m probably a lost cause because I’m just grumpy that Forsaken Empire and Veto aren’t things any more. Yes, I’m an old fucker with a head full of outdated implants and a massive pair of rose-colored glasses, but still, my point stands - there isn’t much to entice us to return. I’m looking. Hard. Still hoping I’ll find something.
Veto stopped being a thing in 2010 really, old school piracy and true mercenaries have been gone for just about as long. Still: as an old can flipper, solo wardeccer and hater of big fleets/blobs/coalitions/caps (my last big alliance on a main was in 2009, when it already started to become silly) I can tell you it’s still there, just different.
Well Theron, that’s actually some good news, because those corps and that small wolfpack meta was what really attracted me to EVE in the first place. Even the old sniping battleship fleets were a good damn time. But I’m not interested in reliving the past. I’m looking for new reasons to come back.
