You should come to an EVE Down Under. We’ve been anything but quiet about it.
Hush! I’m trying to pass you off as Canadians with better weather!
I think you mean much much better weather
Excuse me shouting, but THAT’S WHAT THEY’RE TRYING TO FIND OUT !. One day of inconvenience to discover what will break, and all the usual moaners and whiners are out in force, delighted to have found something new to ■■■■■ about…
You have my sympathy, for having to work with Oracle. It’s a powerful database, but not a nice one.
(source, 12 years as an Oracle DBA, now free)
Same thoughts here. lol
Although I wasn’t a DBA did the hardware side of it and as an IT Backup Specialist (EMC Networker, TSM, Avamar, DoubleTake) it drove me sometimes almost insane
THAT’S WHAT THEY’RE TRYING TO FIND OUT !
Don’t worry, you are in good company with this iteration of CCP if you yell like this.
I am not complaining, I asked a question. I find it funny that this needs to be figured out, though. Must be a case of “The logs show nothing” hitting CCP for a change and not just people contacting support.
I noticed it too. I thought for a moment that CCP had rolled out the blackout in high-sec
Probably would have gotten much less cries about it then in null-sec
So as i said, happy about this. But I would like to recognize @CCP_Convict and @CCP_Explorer for finally posting on forums and responding to things. I do hope this is something we will see in other more controversial updates/discussions as well
Well, I actually sat on a boat, on Sydney Harbour, at a dinner table with CCP Antiquarian. Would you like to guess my very first question? Yeah that’s right about this DT thing. But he was Fair Dinkum about it all, so no rage required.
OK, What about COSMOS???
ok so this whole chat fiasco this morning?? If i was to hazard a guess, this was your first real LIVE test of prepping to do this?
You know dipping a toe in the water so to speak?
I don’t want players to log in to try and break any online records. I really want as close to a typical Wednesday as possible.
Then you shouldn’t have said anything. Just let players discover that nothing happens and they can keep playing.
Advertising the change only guarantees that it will be a non-typical day in some form or fashion.
I know some player actions are timed around logging in as soon as downtime ends but the majority of players don’t. Australia & Antipodes Islands suffer a disproportional amount at downtime.
Any thoughts on implementing a rolling schedule - say every 27 hours - to “Share the inconvenience”
I sadly imagine that one month after the success, the hard work from CCP employees, we will all consider “normal” to have no DT at all.
Yeah, it’ll be amazing! It’ll be almost like every other MMO for the last 8 years.
IMO only. Have no evidence to support this statement.
I think there is pressure from the Asian region to move downtime.
With the Korean player base and the new owners they may have had words.
What Could Possibly Go WR0NG ™?

I already replied to this question; that was not related but demonstrated that we have further improved our ability to fix things without a reboot.
We’re going to need to call the waaaaaaaaaaaahhhmbulance.
Where can I vote for you as King of CCP?

So, this is a bit tricky since some things may break or not behave as anticipated and we needed to be upfront about that aspect of this experiment. So we had to tell players.
