I read that, thanks for the link. But I couldn’t understand what they were saying about where they were going with it, other than ‘‘testing things out’’. That post seems to have been written by AI, at least it’s not the usual CCP style of writing, and I’m having difficulties following their train of thought in these latest pieces in that style of expression. Lots of verbal embellishments and limbo, not a lot of point. (AI an improvement, really?).
Even if discounts go, and everyone has to pay the same flat rate – if that’s what they’re saying – I don’t find that problematic. It’s kind of fair. Yeah, I’m one of those who PLEXes my account during discounts mostly (who wouldn’t?), but it’s not such a big deal. I get it from the fairness point. It’s a subscription, it’s not illogical for everyone to have to pay the same, which I guess currently is not the case.
Thanks for the example! Because of the example I understand you made a mistake, because as I said before comparing two months of Omega with two years is a bad comparison.
Say you have been playing Omega consistently for most months in the past two years. Are you planning to only play two months in the next two years, or will you likely continue playing and paying after those two months?
For a good comparison you should compare how often you buy two months of Omega during two years and compare this total with two years of Omega. As two years have 24 months you’re likely going to buy two months of Omega many more times than once, possibly up to twelve times even.
And twelve times two months of 20 is going to be a lot more expensive than 24 months.
In fact, once you’ve passed 7 of those twelve, or little over half, you’re already paying more than if you had paid for 24 months at a time, as 7*20*2 surpasses the 264 that you currently pay for 24 months in the store.
This means you can be cheaper buying Omega one month at a time! But only if you play up to half the months in a year and are Alpha the rest of the year.
It still comes down to cost.
I have no doubt some will be able to afford a 2 year deal like that, but some won’t be able to, probably the majority of us.
Take me, I’m 66 and retired due to ill health so i’ll never be able to work again.
Where does the money come from for me to be able to grab that deal? In the meantime the monthly cost just went up another £ because of “bonus” items. Yes I look for a cheaper deal, maybe a 3 monthly that comes up now and then that helps.
But the point I’m making to CCP is where are the cheaper deals for players like me, players who might be struggling anyway to justify the expensive monthly sub?
On my 66th birthday my wife bought me 6 months of multi character training because she knows I love the game but I simply don’t have the cash anymore.
So when players come in here saying it’s the cheapest way to play, they forget about players like me, or others that might struggle day to day because of other costs constantly increasing especially here in the UK, like energy and fuel amongst others.
So pointing out the maths is pointless to those who can’t, or won’t pay that amount out on a game.
Plus let’s face it, none of us knows what might happen over the next 2 years so it might just be money down the drain..
This is true.
However I think the chance is high I will still be playing EVE for a considerable part of that time like I did for the past 8 years, which makes it a good bet to get another 24 months in a sale by the time my current one runs out.
Worst case is that I quit EVE or EVE dies or something during that time and the money is (partially) wasted. Oh well.
Then take a smaller ‘large’ pack, one that you can afford. Any of them is cheaper per month than the single month.
How to explain to CCP that charging less would actually bring in more subs and more opportunities to upsell to those that want the perks?
Just thinking out loud here but if they just lower the subs and make the economy just a little more worth while… (not an expert here) should the player base just not grow a little bit bigger and they would be up and ice mining with their fleets again…??? More player accounts payed, more money for ccp…
Having more people coming back to it because grinding isk to plex accounts is worth it again???
Just saying… do not shoot me over this
This whole game time, Plex, MTR, discount here discount there is honestly too complicated. Just give a plain subscription per character that is training, debited from my card once a month like any other subscription service.
I think CCP also has a unique problem with their pricing structure and some sorts of their clients. There are of course those who can’t afford to pay the price for one or two clients now. But there are also the massive multiboxers that can’t afford their playstyle anymore. And if those have to cut down, like i had to, it goes from many many accounts down to maybe one in my case.
Because the reasoning for me is like this: i was sucked into multiboxing like so many more and i actually liked it to command my own fleets. But now i can’t afford it anymore. And if i can’t afford it anymore, there is no sense or fun in shutting down one or two accounts, because those accounts effectively are not usable anymore as alpha login is forbidden. So you see your reduced fleets and suddenly it all makes no sense and fun anymore, so i cut down to one paid account to at least stay in touch with the game, but i don’t play anymore like i used to.
I suppose there are some more multiboxers like me where the increase in monthly cost has lead to almost or complete stop of subscriptions.
Yeah, that would be appropriate change.
CCP should make a discount for guys aged 65+. It’s not an outlandish request to make, and someone should make that case. Guys above that age get discount pretty much on everything where I live, why not for video games as well.
do you realistically see yourself playing every single day for 24 months? i don’t. SP farming when you need a break mitigates waste.
Realistically, yes I play or at least log on and do the dailies every single day.
Only if we go away for a weekend will I not log on, and that, now due to circumstances, is very rare.
I won’t ever sub to a game to not bother playing it, why would I waste money, and why would I train skills just to remove them?
On this character I now have over 160,000 sp, they’ve taken years to get to this point so what possible reason would I ever have to remove them, and start over again?
I refuse to pay more for Omega in order to finance CCP to develop the next stillborn first person shooter.
Instead of focusing on the core game, they make first person shooters.
It’s like watching the old ladies in the casino pumping money into a slot machine.
The average price of stuff in EVE seems to have been falling. My pile of 400 quite varied items at Jita was worth 1.42 billion ISK not that long ago. Now it says it is worth 1.27 billion ISK.
160.000SP is roughly 2 Omega days If i’m not mistaken.
Fair point.
160,000,000.00
That was expected based on context. But then, why would You extract all these SP and “start over”? Rather, where this question came from? I don’t think the thread led to this….
(People was advising to extract some part of SP collected in the time you had payed Omega but was not playing)
This, why spend all that money increasing your skills just to remove them again?
I really don’t get it considering how long it takes to accumulate them in the first place.
Even if it is only some of them.
My friend, the problem is NOT the plex prices or omega prices.
It is the sheep paying, aka whales.
This game exist ONLY to take their money.
This game is not here to give you free stuff, it is here to take money from people that are gulible enough to pay.
And then pay some more.
AND GUESS WHAT- that is A-OK.
