Oi CCP why does it say on my launcher Omega from $11.29/Month and when i click it im forwarded to UK prices and its £15.99 are you stiffing us in the UK
Technically not wrong.
Also bulk discounts, it’s not difficult.
The “from” language in ads means that if you dig around deep enough, you can eventually find one specific deal that offers that price. It should generally be read as “There’s one offer this low, then the price rises significantly from there. Special conditions and limitations may apply.”
This is just bait to get you looking around. As Aisha said, that pricing comes in the long-term discounts if you sign for months or years at a time. Also, not sure but it seems to me that CCP doesn’t generally factor in much of an exchange rate for pounds or euros. They use pretty close to the US$ numbers even though pounds or euros may be worth a bit more.
This is just a simple marketing trick, nothing new. The word ‘from’ is important here. What bothers me more, however, is that now they’re asking for €20 per month for game time in Europe. When were the prices increased? After a few years of taking a break from EVE, I wanted to get back into it, but €20 for a month of Omega, or nearly 3 billion for Plex? No, sorry, my 50 mil character will just stay in retirement then.
several years ago the price went up to $20 from $15. well you can always keep your character playing via alpha.
This adjustment reflects global trends impacting general production costs and accounts for years of inflation , amending the 1-month USD subscription rate for the first time since 2004 - Apr 2022
I pay £12.50 a month…in the UK. That’s with a 3 monthly subscription.
well if you give up the vices, you can afford it.
TBH that ‘global adjustment’ primarily reflects things with supply chains and energy and transportation costs. Relatively speaking this has reduced impact on the digital services market, where these costs are a lesser portion of the end price.
While a few services (eg. Xbox Gamepass) have raised their subscription prices, none of the other dozen or so games I’ve played recently have increased subscription price. I suspect CCP’s increase was a case of “let’s jack up the base price, then we can offer larger and more frequent discounts to encourage players to grab the ‘sale price’, but still make the same or more money”.
Regardless of the relative environment and CCP’s real motives vs. their spin-doctoring, the 33% increase in base price is here to stay, and is the highest single-game monthly sub cost I’m aware of.
It’s up to the individual to decide if CCP and EVE Online justifies a higher fee than other games, but for anyone who does choose to subscribe, picking up a multi-month option during a sale is probably the way to go. (You should also check that Auto-Renew is OFF if doing so, since sale prices rarely count for automatic renewals.)
