They said how they dont really like how mining feels so action-packed and fast-packed now with the shorter 15 second mining turret cycle times.
Seems like they liked it more when the mining turret cycle time was 1 minute.
More chill, more sleepy, more cozy.
Maybe we can reverse it, or rework it differently like this:
Mining turret is a single cycle.
It keeps going for a long time until it has gathered enough ore to fill your mining hold.
Then the cycle ends and all the ore is sent to your mining hold at once, from a single, very long cycle of mining turret.
And we could also have a meter to show how full are ore hold would be if we cancelled the mining turret cycle early and got the ore early, instead of waiting for it to gather enough to fill our mining hold and automatically turn off.
============
Make mining more sleepy and chill.
I heard miners in general mine because its chill and sleepy and cozy and uwu and uwu lets cuddle and sleep while eve online mines.
Say I mine 15m3 over 45 seconds and get 675m3 in one cycle now, or 2700m3 in four cycles lasting 180 seconds total.
In the past I also mined for 180 seconds total getting 2700m3.
How is today’s mining any more ‘action packed’ than back then?
Do you need to restart every cycle? No.
Do you need to pick a new asteroid every cycle? No.
Can you decide to just cycle four times and earn 2700m3 every 180 seconds, just like before? Yes!
In fact, I often didn’t even do anything every cycle even back when the cycles were 180 seconds. I just mined until the rock was gone.
And today I also mine until the rock is gone!
And guess what? This takes exactly the same amount of time!
I may occasionally be a miner, but I can do math.
Mining doesn’t appear any more action packed to me than it was before unless you do ‘lots of stuff’ every cycle, like obsessively compressing and stacking your ores every time you get a new ore or something.
My suggestion: don’t do that.
Your ore hold is big, it can fill for some cycles without your input. And if your ore hold isn’t big enough to mine while sleepy and chill, try a Mackinaw instead of Hulk.
Mentally more action packed, seeing the cycles run out and start again so quickly, instead of it being a really long cycle that takes a long time, and you see it take so long and you become more chill and relaxed because its so slow.
Reckon you would want shorter cycles to maximize ore if you have to bug out.
Its not as though mining is a particularly mentally involved pastime on its own, a faster spinning circle doesn’t strike me as being that big of a deal but I guess inmates in solitary can get thrown completely out of whack if a guard puts up a poster or something.
Mining needs all kind of sudden threats that can kill the mining ship if the pilot isn’t paying attention. Real jumpscares. Boooh! Like ganking NPCs warping on grid, but randomly every few minutes. Feel the adrenaline!
It’s less about the practicality of it and more about the feel of it. It just feels like you’re mining too fast. Having the text pop up and a sound every 15s feels really fast when it’s something as mundane as mining.
Not really, you’re objectively in the wrong here. The game making a sound at you every fifteen seconds is ridiculously slow-paced. Cellphone idle games have more interactivity than that, and they’re essentially just “watch this ad then click the button to close it once it finally appears”.
Sure it is subjective, but if even this low level (objective, compared to the overwhelming majority of all games out there) of activity is stressful, why pick a game like EVE and not something that is round based? Or if it has to be EVE, then simply don’t mine, build up a PI empire. “Actions” can be counted in hours at worst, days and weeks at best… and you still make profits.
