The Oneiros and Scimitar have a 25% bonus (5% per skill level) for remote tracking computer falloff.
I thought this might apply to the falloff bonus applied to the remotely assisted ship, but it’s actually just the falloff of the module’s range itself.
For reference, the Oneiros and Scimitar have a locking range of 87.5 km and 75km respectively without sensor boosting. However, the module has an optimal range of 84km meaning that the falloff bonus is never utilized in any capacity.
The falloff is only increased from 42km to 52.5km so even if you found a niche used for it, it’s unlikely to make any tangible difference.
So, I thought I’d make a post calling attention to this fact that the minmatar and gallente logistics cruisers have a hull bonus that may as well not exist.
Thanks for listening to my rant. Love the game, by the way.
Just a reminder that this is on the cruiser skill bonus so it’s always at max it’s basically just a free 25% increase.
It increases the falloff from 36km to 45km for the t2 meaning first falloff hits at 117 rather than 108 and that’s what’s important. You’re benefits decay slower.
It’s also important to remember that nearly every logi cruiser is going to be running sebos. While the oneirous is rarely all that far out scimitar fleets can sit comfortably at 80km to better shield themselves from enemy ewar. Especially in mid or small sized gangs.
If you’re using a faction computer the bonus is marginally helpful but it keeps the t2 strong even at that range.
Their tracking enhancer bonuses are niche in general but they are all useful.
Sorry if this comes off as dismissive, but I have to rebuke a few points you made. You seem to be saying “this skill is basically free and the range bonus can help with avoiding ewar”
The remote tracking computer effectiveness bonus is good and not something I would describe as niche. There are many ships, such as alpha and sniping ships, that can make better use of the tracking bonuses.
However, the use of the tracking computers beyond 84km is absolutely niche and personally I cannot think of a single instance where someone would use it except maybe for some PVE related activity where extreme range remote tracking computers might be useful. But for PVP, I can honestly say I can’t think of a single instance where this falloff range bonus would make a difference.
Scimitar and oneiros fleets can’t sit comfortably at 80km as their rep range doesn’t extend that far nor does the scimitar’s locking range. Which is kind of the point I was making. If you want to use this range bonus, you would need to completely forgo any of the utility of the logistics cruisers as a repper while fitting it specifically or using command bursts to brings its targeting range into the falloff range.
As for countering ewar, it doesn’t. Remote sensor dampeners out range the tracking computers. If your enemy is on top of the ship you’re providing assistance to at extreme range of the tracking comp; remote sensor dampeners would still cause you to break lock.
Hence my point, the range bonus is pointless and may as well not be on the hull except for some extremely rare use case where someone is going to fit a scimitar solely to providing remote tracking computers at extreme range and they want an additional 10km falloff. I would honestly say that total number of people who have had to do this is very like to be zero.
If a damp ship is ontop of the ship you’re providing assistance to it’s not going to live very long. Most properly screened ewar will have a hard time getting within 30km of your line most will be closer to 40km away from it.
Like i said it’s rare for oneiros but scimitar can and do sit this far back. Most shield logi spend the majority of their time in falloff. At 80km you’re still at about half effectiveness. This is similar for the oneiros but it’s much riskier as you start dropping effectiveness fast if you don’t manage that range. Likewise there are often ships that can benefit from your tracking computers that aren’t inside your main line and have extended beyond it.
It is good but it’s definitely niche you can just take a look through zkill there are far fewer ships that fit this compared to the ones that don’t. But this is because remote tracking computers themselves are niche. Something can be both powerful and niche the two aren’t mutually exclusive. The ecm burst can be one of the most oppressive mods in the game but it’s undeniably a niche mod.
Our vindicators often go into even 90km from our logi and they strongly benefit from the remote tracking computers especially when they shift targets.
Our Naga are also often at these ranges or sometimes bump up against 100km from our logi and the increased effectiveness of the tc can be the difference between a hit and a miss.
So there are definitely pvp scenarios where this bonus comes in.
