As a newbie my largest frustration is with UI. I can see that many posts are also about UI. Nowadays gamers are pretty comfortable with scripting and advanced game controls beyond point-and-click. A community of passionate geeks is always good, while it also relieves developers - since community can fix each other’s stuff, and high quality ones get pushed upstream.
Honestly, The core EVE premise just seems too good to be contrived to immutable UI.
A lot of games generated long-term loyal playerbases by allowing freedom of customization. Terraria was sinking into irrelevance as developers didn’t release new versions for years, but modding community made it explode in playtime. Alpha Centauri, a game from 1999 is still getting community patches and customizations to this day. There is no downside or risk, since frontend modding will always be bounded by EVE’s unique game-style and functionality. It’s just that every player will find a more enjoyable way to interact with the game content.
