Opressive unrealistic Gatecamp mechanics

Played EVE on and off since 2009, before having kids wich was the reason for my last break I used to spend my time doing FW in lowsec, used to love roaming, small gang and solo-pvp.

the break i started was around 2020, just got back in 2026 now the kids are older.

I do not recognise Low Sec, ■■■■ me, there is only one thing and its gatecamps and station games.

it can not be CCP intent to have a carrier and a dread being able to catch a cloak-mwd industrial.

hell, now Im even trying to move OUT of LS, and its almost not worth it getting the things back to HS, starting to regret resubbing.

and I know I know, some people will say “git gud” or something in that line, and well…

roaming in LS is fun, gate camps is not, and when people like me are gone, your gatecamps will be a wasted night.

MAKE
LOWSEC
GREAT
AGAIN

I dont know how they do it and I dont care, a dread and a carrier shouldnt be able to lock that quick, CCP needs to fix that or the whole “new players should to FW” is a wasted effort.

If you think Gatecamps are the problem of LowSec, you haven’t meet the BlackOps menace yet…

tbh I started in 2009 too and Gatecamping + Stationgames were absolute standard everywhere. Many HS/LS gates were camped by the locals, at least those with frequent traffic. And many fights begun and escalated around either Gatecamps or Station games. And here begins the real “problem”: Today you will be scouted pretty soon and then sooner or later the Cyno goes up and the BlackOps gang (with FAX+Dread support as Backup if needed) from some large regional landlord comes trough and absolutely obliterates the grid.

So I played in 2009 as well, there were gatecamps back then as well. Tama especially. Now FW have things called ship casters that let’s you go straight into the frontlines from high sec. They are pretty useful now.

I started playing EVE in 2009 as well, and I have to say there were a lot more gate camps back then than there are now. Stations were also camped more than they are now.

Did you fly through Tama? That trips up most players.

I also get sometimes bit annoyed by gatecamps but nowadays I see them another challenge: can I figure out a trajectory that lets me warp away quick? If not, can I fly back to gate fast enough? Lastly, can I find something to fight back against?

Also once I got really bored with some gatecamp so I kept feeding T1 frigs and corvettes to them until they got bored, called me names and logged off. Was quite funny.

Compared to the olden days, gate camps in low sec have diminished considerably nowadays. Rancer was perma-camped, Tama was perma-camped, Oulley was perma-camped, Ostingle had regular camps. Vehan and Hier were perma-camped. Ammamake had regular camps.

Nowadays? You can oftentimes even get through Rancer/Miroitem and Tama unscathed and wonder why the system is so peaceful.

you got caught in a transport by a capital???

Ahh i see.. no cloak on most losses.. and the cloaked one probably has the same signature as a small moon with mwd… did you forget to cloak?

If the carrier has fighters out on the gate that decloak you early and you do not have a WCS, yes.

Its the only place to catch the oversize prop mod nano kitey meta that now permeates the game.

You know, if you were not blowing your sig out with the MWD trying a gimmick you would probably have been ok.

Better would have been to use a scout and simply waited for the gate to be clear, that is really what ‘went wrong’ IMHO, nobody is going to have any sympathy for not even making minimal effort.

Can we see the kill mail?

Honestly don’t think a carrier should be able to catch you even with an active integrated sensor array and sensor boosters.

I think you messed up the trick.

But honestly insta tackle archons would be hilarious.

I can’t feel bad for low-sec. By going after any/all content (regardless of value) they pretty much turned it into a veritable ghost town. This includes (semi) permanent gate-camping and the aforementioned Black Ops drops.

No need to feel bad for us, we’re having fun down here.

Not sure why you think it’s a ghost town, seems pretty lively to me.

Because when we (the filth casuals, me included) go there during your sleeping hours it looks like a ghost town.

People also think it’s dangerous, because they do not understand it’s a private space dominated by some multi boxer or corp, and they think it was supposed to be like some star wars movie bar full of pirates shooting each other.

You gotta have some patience with those people that live in HS. They still believe in santa.

There’s around 8000 systems in Eve, and about 24k characters at any one time, so that’s 3 per system on average, given the popularity of highsec, trade hubs and nullsec alliance hubs, it’s unsuprising that many parts of lowsec seem to be empty.

But it isn’t, there’s several large and many smaller groups who live here, fight over resources and hunt each other and anyone else who shows up.

It’s fun, you should join us.
