50% damage buff it is!
Every change that has ever been made in EVE is a nerf to one play style, and a buff to another. There is no happy medium…
Unhappy medium! 50% buff!!
Make it hurt. Make it hurt so bad. Make their hulls crack and crumble. Make them cry
So, anybody who gets within a certain distance of a gate/station (gun) will be shot at, regardless of their flags/security status? That’s what I’m reading from here. If that’s what you meant, no way anybody will support it. That’s the opposite of free movement.
It would be incredibly funny for the first week though, lol.
Imho the breaking point is not that you can camp a gate with some combat ships, but the ability to remotesensorboost a tackler to the point where you can instalock/scram/web your target to an immediate standstill. Against a highly sophisticated camp, you sometimes cant even reapproach the gate with a frigate.
Recently I was even locked (yellowboxed) before my shuttle was in warp. Point didnt activate, but thats insanely fast.
I can understand that this feels oppressive and imbalanced. But all ‘solutions’ don’t look particulary well either.
What amazes me about this whole topic is gatecamping is well down on what it used to be, from what I can tell.
Maybe it’s just that I personally do less gatecamping than I used to, but I frequently go through gates which used to be perma-camped and there’s no-one there nowadays.
Purely anecdotal of course, but with the lack of any decent stats it’s the best I can do.
Yeah there are definitely a lot less camps than ever, but those that exist are deadlier than ever.
Back in the glorious days of lowsec piracy even small amateur groups could set up a small camp and fish for lonely travellers here and there, but in times of cynoblobs that can arrive within seconds, these aren’t very successful any more. You get busted by the next best BlackOps gang anyway.
And those who camp at the remaining hotspots often have all the high tech equipment and numbers plus any backup they need.
Lol, the only one crying here is you
Gatecamps might not be as frequent as before that is true, but they are much more deadlier. Sub 2sec instalocks are a standard. Drone spam around gate to prevent cloaking. And thanks to implants, abyss mutaplasmids and new ships you can get scrammed+webbed at 30km now when in past it was just warp disrupt which could have been counterplayed. Now with 30km scram, there is absolutely nothing you can do. If you have mwd you can’t go anywhere, if you have AB you are too slow to get away.
Except you can game it and then they don’t. I would even call it an exploit, but the lowsec players would get upset so I won’t. It is feature!
Without fixing the above it is kinda pointless to do it. They aren’t that weak, in 1v1 fights they do give significant advantage to the defender, but there is the problem mentioned above where they just don’t do ■■■■. That needs to be fixed imo.
And every HS->LS and LS->HS gates should have higher dispersal as region->region gates. Would not make gatecamping impossible, but it would give a small chance to be able to do something about it when you jump into one.
I never even tried that. Instead I was trying to fly to the point in space away from them. Last time I jumped with Hecate into one such gatecamp I was looking at the spot to click at, at the last second of cloak (got lucky once and someone else decloaked and that allow me to squeeze through) I clicked towards that point pressed F1 for mwd and I was instantly scrammed+webbed and moving 100m/s.
If gate guns were to get a buff one way might be to make capsuleers responsible for the buffing. For example capsuleers could manufacture and deliver advanced ammunition to the guns at their own expense. Perhaps the ammunition could only be manufactured in High-sec space, comes in crates too large to fit in a Blockade Runner, and delivery requires visiting each gun and waiting some time for the loading to complete, so it would involve some risk. But in general it would be easier to deliver ammunition to the gate guns close to High-sec, and more risky to deliver deeper into Low-sec.
Another idea could be to allow a capsuleer to declare themselves a gate defender. They would connect to the gate in some way which would result in them being unable to warp away and unable to jump the gate, and their safety would remain locked to green so effectively they could only fight the same targets that the gate guns fire on. Disconnecting from the gate would take some time, similar to the de-agression process. While connected they would receive some assistance from the gate, such as an anchor that prevents them being booshed off the gate.
Im a bitter vet but id take current EVE Low sec NOW vs EVE low sec 2008 and older.
Nothing will ever be worse than supercarriers perma camping everywhere, battleships flying 8k a second and no 0m warp onto gates.
Atleast in today’s game you have options
Trust me camps are not as bad as the old old days lol ^^
Well you may talk about the really ancient times, pre 2008 definitely. No doubt the game was pretty badly designed in the first years, but I believe most people active today haven’t witnessed that hilarious stuff. My statement refers to the “golden age” between ~2008 and ~2014.
Lowsec gameplay was at it’s peak there and very good balanced between large and small groups, with very common camping, but without the complete instalock+90%web+scram stuff. With good awareness, experience and reaction you had a chance.
Emphasis on “had”. This was also before mass multi-boxing became the new “in” thing.
Whilst what you say is not complete nonsense, I started playing in the Golden age and remember getting instalocked and pointed in more than one gatecamp.
There’s always been players who make the effort to gatecamp in a way which will catch pretty much everything, unless the campers are unlucky. There’s also always been camps you can bust through with the MWD/cloak trick or similar.
I think there’s just fewer of the latter any more, i.e. the scrubs quit and only the professional campers remain.
Low sec is the ghetto of EVE. Always has been, always will be…
I think “ghetto” is overly generous…
