Opressive unrealistic Gatecamp mechanics

You ever see those movies where certain people in the ghetto are all sitting on the front steps of a house waiting for unfortunates to come along? Like I said, ghetto…

If you spend all day sitting on your front steps (gate) waiting for people to come along and assault or rob them (gate camping), congrats. You’re a hood rat and you live in the ghetto…

Make friends and beat the gatecampers, ez.

There’s no Santa?!!

Don’t know . maybe try to suicide gank the interceptor using a glass canon thrasher.

suicide gank? a highsec tactic, against gatecamping, a low/null tactic.

Methinks you are confused.

Definte instalock. If you jumped in with ship at 2.0+ align then you were locked in Tama, Rancer, Gonditsa and probably other places I wasn’t flying to. That is absolutely normal and can be done by any frigate and even destroyers. What @Syzygium means by instalock is a gatecamp that can lock and warp disrup ships with align time between 1.0 and 2.0. That definitely wasn’t a thing in the “golder era”. It wasn’t a thing even when I started playing between 2016 and 2018.

Now that happens. Even a shuttle can be caught in such gatecamp. And Rancer and Ahbazon does have this setup frequently and not just there.

The main reason why gatecamps are so much deadlier is the new ships with bonuses to scram or web range. Abyssal mutaplasmids that can extend range of webs and scram and implants that extends range of webs. That wasn’t really available in “golden age” and thus a counterplay existed. Running away from them. Now you can’t do even that.

And we forgot to mention Lancers.

Someone who understands. Thank you.

@Lucy_Alfrir yeah, the classic “Flycatcher” camps did exist even in the earlier days, and yes, you could tackle even some frigs. But mostly the slower ones like plated assault frigs. Nanofrigs or Ceptors always came back to the gate if they reacted quickly enough.

What I mean with todays pretty much 100% deathtraps are those using abyssalrolled dual 90%+ webs + rolled 3point scram on a remotesensorboosted Daredevil* that has full skirmishlinks running and a pre-spooled Zarmazd reparing it, so it can completely ignore the Sentry Guns. That thing locks and holds you immediately after locking. You are going exactly nowhere. You basically can’t take up any speed in any direction whatsoever. That definitely didn’t exist back then, mostly because Abyssal Mutaplasmids and Triglavian RRs didn’t exist, T3s didn’t exist and so on…

*Can also be done with sensorboosted TripleWeb Lokis (targeting subsystem), Keres’ etc. pp. where the webbers are rolled for higher speed reduction or the scrams are rolled for maximum range.

And people wonder why no one wants to venture into low-sec…

Yet now we also have T3Ds. In propulsion mode, with mid-grade Nomads, you can fit for sub 1s align time. In lowsec, that’s basically uncatchable. So there is still a gatecamp counterplay. T3Ds are the new travel-fit interceptors.

Yeah, and the best one is don’t go into low-sec…

Not much use if your sec status is -10 :crying_cat:

If your sec status is that low, then you deserve low-sec, lol.

I go into lowsec all the time, and rarely have an issue. You just need to be familiar with your local area, get to know the regulars, and do some intel before you jump through the gate. There’s always a chance you’ll be the first catch of the day, but it doesn’t happen often.

I still wonder why CCP/FC thought it was a good idea to completely nerf and take out the warpstab system, limiting travel chances for shiptypes that can’t be instawarped.

It should be your strategic choice to map out the possible points in a system and fit against it and roll it and maybe you get through. But no… that option is gone completely now due to the fitting restriction. I still don’t understand why this was done.

Someone complained that it was too hard to catch things, obviously…

@Rixx_Javix complained and complained and complained and complained some more, for years and years and years, that he couldn’t catch Vexors in FW plexes because they were full of warpstabs.
