Would be nice if we could arrange the game screen layout in a different way such that the game and the menus and, i think its called user interface? are seperated.
Currently the game and menus are ontop of eachother
When i say menus, i mean various windows, such as inventory, overview containing everything near you, all the…i think its called user interface? elements?
Kinda like having the visuals of whats happening in-game on one side, and all the menus and text and symbols containing your inventory, health, overview that shows everything near you, etc, on another side.
Right now the menus and user interface? stuff? are put ontop of the visuals of whats happening in-game
Or how like, when watching youtube, the video is in a different area, seperated from the comments and the list of other videos you could watch, instead of everytihng being ontop of eachother.
Step 1: move the center of your game to a side in the graphics.
Step 2: drag all the menu elements to the other side.
Step 3: give the menu elements a non-transparent background so they do not appear like overlaying the game
Done?
I mean, I have no idea why anyone would want to play like that and it’s definitely not my taste, but it is possible.
But you can. In the first place, don’t have stuff on the screen that you don’t NEED to have there all the time. And minimise the size of windows such as chat…you don’t need to see half an hour’s worth of chat, and if you do want to see it you just expand the window. If you also make all the windows transparent, and set windows around the edge of the screen, you have LOADS of screen space in which to see space…
They’re not wrong in that there’s a lot of stuff you simply need to have and can’t really minimize as it’s kind of mission critical.
One thing I just thought of is instead of going with the standard “letterbox” format I could just make my main a “square” (2880x2800) and move all the stuff to the top and/or bottom.
In short, what you are asking can be an option for users and should already been an option long ago. The problem I foresee is the lack of talent at FC to accomplish the task at hand.
Oh, if that’s what the OP means, then I see two outcomes:
Either all these extra tabs that correspond to the game but are separate windows become a complete mess when players use multiple clients. Which they often do.
Or, if FCCP puts in enough effort to make it ‘not a mess’ for multiple clients, then this feature enables people to multibox at scales yet unheard of, using only small overview tabs to swap between clients.
In the first case multiboxers are unhappy.
In the second case non-multiboxers will be unhappy. I definitely don’t want to see more people running 20+ characters by all alone, nor would I like seeing additional support specifically to enable such gameplay.
In fact, I recall that using third party software to crop out one small part of a client is expressly forbidden and against the rules, which is why all third party multibox support tools have previews that show full screens only and not just the relevant parts of the screen.
This request is pretty much exactly a thing that CCP doesn’t want.
That is such a beautiful view/UI. I don’t know if you play like that or just set it transparent for purposes of illustration, but it looks amazing. I’ve always played with full transparency turned on with no blur, and I don’t understand why anybody would use the opaque option. But to each their own.
As I said, I think it is something beyond their scope of education, talent, and desire to make an effort. This developer ( FC ) is not alone on this issue. Most programmers I have worked with come to the table with limited skill set, we all have limited knowledge. However whenever my superior asked me to do something new or outside the envelope, I learned new tricks, got it done, and pleased them.
I was tasked back in the 90’s to hook up the new printers to the mainframe and it wasn’t going too well. The printers were non compatible and I made inquiries to the manufacturer about reprogramming them to work with the mainframe. I took the convertor switch box manual home and studied it over the weekend and found the box could be reprogrammed using any PC plugged into the mainframe. The next Monday I got all the boxes fixed to work with those printers.
I simply don’t imagine any of the programmers want to sit down and read how to use CDocking Manager Class for Windows 11 to make it work. I was asked on the phone interview once, if I knew Paradox for Windows, before accepting the job. I told them, of course I know it. After I hung up the phone, I ran to B Dalton and grabbed a book on Paradox for Windows. I did very well on that job.
I say it is not only possible to make the game windows dockable and undockable. It can be done where solo and multiboxers are both pleased. What I see for the future, is new garbage games made with help of AI. Older programs and games will get retooled or tossed by the wayside. Programmers will not be educated, but slop artists, who simply don’t care and don’t have pride in their work.
