Permabumping fix

When I did AG seriously I almost always turned up with logistics, and it was normally T2 logi. Often Guardians… However actually I would tell you that logi is not as good as you think and part of that is bumping, you see being able to control the battlespace means that they can keep tabs on what is around and then bring the number and ship type / fittings to overwhelm the logi, they have it all set up, this is one of the advantages that bumping gives, total control on time and location, time often being the most important.

As I said bumping is too great an advantage as it makes it too certain.

I am not AG, I dabble every so often, in fact intel is the best thing you can do at the moment, I spent a good part of today giving intel on the bumpers in Niarja, they got a few kills but they would have missed a few because of me.

yes, when you fight. But bumping is not a fight. It’s preventing someone from moving while you prepare your guns.

As long as the ship is bumped neither ship can go anywhere, it is perfectly balanced.

The entire while you prepare argument has already been boiled down to:

While the gankers prepare, so could the hauler. The time is equally available it is all what has been done with it.

The entire freighter bumping discussion is a farce because a 1b capital ship flying solo is “at your own risk” and easily countered by teamwork.

If someone really wants to bring about bumping changes the thing to look at is miner bumping because unlike freighters miner bumping is a new player, solo activity, all the teamwork based counters fall away.

are you telling me that bumping a freighter makes the bumper unable to warp ? if so I believe you should try it. I tried and it does not work this way.

No, but as soon as the bumper leaves the freighter can too. The time spent of both is tied up.

That is utter nonsense. You know perfectly well that the gankers (or, more realistically, one ganker multiboxing a horde of alpha alts) have a very simple task to prepare for, defined by a straightforward calculation of HP vs. damage, while any supposed “preparation” by the hauler is at best incredibly difficult and unreliable. And you’re ignoring the question of why the gankers should be entitled to exploit a broken mechanic to compensate for the fact that they weren’t already prepared to engage when a potential target arrived, while the freighter pilot is expected to be prepared at all times with multiple alts standing by to support it.

then it’s not balanced.

is thus wrong.

Well if they are all multi-boxers and exploiters then there is no need for this thread. These are all enforcement issues, not code issues.

/sarcasm

While the gankers prepare there is nothing preventing the bumpee from getting help as well.

If he doesn’t well then solo is always defeated by team even if the team is a legal multibox.

Sure it is, if the bumpee wants to leave he can get help, this is not Duels R Us.

Except that “getting help” is asymmetrical. The bumping player just has to warp in the required gank ships and execute the gank, the freighter pilot has to try various acts of desperation with limited chances of success that require a much higher investment of skill and effort to even attempt them.

And you’re again ignoring the question of why the gank side is entitled to exploit a broken game mechanic to compensate for their inability to do something as easy as a freighter gank properly, while the freighter side is expected to bring multiple skilled players and be able to execute difficult and low-probability counters at all times.

Why doesn’t the bumping player have any obligation to get help to continue bumping? Why is one side expected to have multiple accounts to accomplish their goal while the other is entitled to use only a single account?

Ultimately he does, there is nothing he can accomplish without help.

Having one alt in a barely fit ship bump the bumper is hardly has hard as getting together a full gank fleet.

He can continue to bump. This is the asymmetry:

The bumping player has full control over the situation as long as it is 1v1. They can bump as long as they want, until they voluntarily allow the freighter to leave or call in the gank fleet to kill it. Once they make it a many vs. one situation success is guaranteed within seconds.

The freighter has zero control over the situation as long as it is 1v1. They can only passively sit and wait for the bumping player to act, and their only chance (however small) of gaining any control is to escalate beyond a 1v1. Once they do escalate success is still difficult and the bumping player still has a significant chance of continuing the bump long enough to accomplish their goals.

Having one alt in a barely fit ship bump the bumper is hardly has hard as getting together a full gank fleet.

Counter-bumping requires skill to execute and is not guaranteed to work. A gank does not require any skill (which is why multiboxing is so easy) and is guaranteed to succeed once you press F1.

To what end, can we stick with reality?

Sure there is that 1 in what? 1000 player who will bump for hours just to grief, but that is not what you design software around and that is not what people are complaining about.

REALITY is the bumps that end with a gank.

lol wut? In many cases Orbit will do it, you only need to be successful enough to let the freighter warp out. Less than 20 seconds if the freighter is fit correctly.

Jesus guys it’s very simple. Bumping stops someone elses warp without putting you in any danger. You shouldn’t need to have an alt, people should be vulnerable to attack if they stop you from warping jUsT LiKe AnY oThEr TaCkLe. It makes zero sense that people can just infinitely grief you from moving without any risk.

A flag wouldn’t work for exploit reasons, so just have a maximum alignment timer. 5 mins and poof it warps regardless of alignment. Or after 5 mins have the ship ignore collision. Before we start screaming “muh immersion” let’s not forget we warp through stations and get stuck in celestials.

Because PvP is griefing.

You could even use the auto pilot!

Not one of your best thought out opinions. It just breaks the rest of the logic of the game. If someone messes with your ship they become a legal target.

Agree to disagree though, it doesn’t really matter. I dont see this core component of eve changing.

Ironic pair.

So if I undock at full speed, which the game does for us, and crash into your freighter at Jita I become a target, along with the frigate behind me who crashes into me, plus you because the freighter in front of you tried to align to Perimeter :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Waiting pirates destroy everything.

FINALLY a FIX

+1 :skull_and_crossbones:

I never agreed to the OP suggestion and stated so in my first post. It would be obviously exploitable.

Seriously, any fix has to work in a lot of situations.

Plus don’t forget miners, who want to not move and get bumped to move them.

I think an align time limit would be an acceptable change. You should always be able to at least leave after a while if you’re not pointed. At the moment it’s completely possible to lock someone down until downtime without repercussions.
