What I would be interested in is knowing both the number of those ganked and the number of freighters flying around unganked.
“Three to eleven freighters ganked in HS a day” sounds impressive when only 20 freighters fly around. But it’s nothing if thousands of freighter flights happen of which the vast majority is succesful.
Interesting idea. The webber would be a lot less vulnerable and obvious with a covert cloak.
Just be aware you have a 5 second targeting delay after decloaking. You could try one of the bombers (also Caldari or Gallente for max amount of mid slots) to do it without targeting delay.
You’re going to lack the web range of a Hyena though.
Yeah and thats actually all that matters. There is no danger or “vulnerability” for your webber or any reason for trying to “hide” it. Gankers have their scouts several systems before their gankspot and they will see what you are doing whether you keep your webber cloaked to the last moment or not. And if they want to catch your freighter they will place an insta-locker-frig in its path that will point it before your webber can lock it and then it’s fair game.
There is really absolutely zero reason to use anything else than a tripleweb Hyena/Rapier/Loki.
it has been addressed. several times. there have been numerous nerfs made to ganking activities over the years, such as no red safety on Alpha accounts.
and ganking has not, and likely never will be, removed completely.
it’s a core, foundational design principle of the game that there are no safe spaces. that you can be engaged in any area of space and further, that you explicitly consented to pvp when you clicked “undock”.
the idea that CONCORD is righteous retribution and not mollycoddling prevention has been baked into the games design since the start.
The day that ganking is removed from high sec is the day the game dies. With no threats from other players, there would be literally thousands of players using bots to mine and haul AFK 24/7.
The cloaked webber really comes to mind because of old school “running the pipe” to 0.0. I was good at it back in the day. I’ve found in hi sec it really isn’t as good as it sounds… real pita to get in range while everything is cloaked before the decloak timer runs out on a freighter. If you did it a few times a week then you might have the skills to do it, but once every few weeks and it’s easy to mess it up. You have to hit warp… switch to the other screen, decloak, orbit, target, scan/web. and then cloak again. I’m pretty good at getting the range close but being off 1-2k means someone that is ready to bump you might get you first. So you are fighting the orbit/vs decloak… maybe hitting the mwd/ab.
Knowing how many freighters go through is something to consider, but the fact that you can’t guarantee a safe trip when you are already risking a build opportunity before the item you are building hits the market is risk enough, and then to loose all the investment that sets you back months… then you are looking at a solution of months of setback vs times ganked … only 1 in 3 months makes it all worthless. Not worth the investment to make isk to pay for what I want to do to burn it = not worth my time and I go find another game. Now if I wanted no emersion in the game, I’d just join a ganking corp and go have fun that way. But it’s not what I want, it’s not how I played before, and therefore ganking HAS changed the game. So it’s not the game I am willing to waste time on anymore. All those gank defenders are blind to the fact that ganking is not the same as it used to be, but that’s ok. If that is the game CCP wants it to be, so be it. It’s no wonder their active subs are down, they will be pushing multibox subs until nobody is left buying the plex that the multiboxers spend isk on and then it will all be broken. At least that is the future I see for things currently.
I was never after that, just a way to actively have safe travel in hi sec. Far to easy to gank an active target in hi sec, considering that is all that some corps do, they have it down cold.
If they really want… they will kill your webber, they know who it is, I’ve seen the related kill mails where they take them out as well. But I’ve messed around with it enough to know unless you are doing it daily, you will mess up the distance at some point getting in range when both ships are cloaked. Then of course they could always just dump a bunch of small cans around the gate as well… At some point it all becomes moot.
