Please critique my Barghest

I want a pure missile boat for easily running Level 4 Security Missions (and maybe other PvE stuff). The fit below is for Angel space.

I chose the Barghest for it’s deadly and fast missiles. If possible, I want to depened on the drones as little as possible.

It does looks pretty nice ! To be honest, I see you are also and adept of the Micro Jump Drive fits, so you will enter a new and wonderful world : RANGE TANKING !

Basically, by putting you 100km away from the NPCs while still being able to reliably hit them, you’ll manage to get away with next to no damage taken. Just, be careful if the mission pocket make you start near scramming frigates, they’ll shut down your MJD. However, since most of the incoming DPS will be nullified by the range, you do not need that expensive shield booster, shaving you a lot of ISK from the bill, and making your ship less of a problem if you were to mess up with your jump. You can, for example, take a T2 or Meta large shield booster, to repair the damage done to your shields while you’re outside of the enemies ranges.

However, since you do not have the cooldown bonus of Marauders, the time between your jumps will be longer, so while the MJD cooldown, you’ll have plenty of time to clear the room. Once most of your bigger threats at close ranges, like EWAR frigates and high damage ships are down, you can jump back in range of the objectives or the Acceleration Gate, clear up the last enemies and repeat on the other side.

The shield booster is just 100m ISK, cheaper then one of the three CN BCSs.

I want a ship (and fitting) that does every L4 easily, including the Angel Extravaganza Bonus Room.

Fit looks pretty standard. I’d consider swapping a missile guidance enhancer for a signal amp, and then swap the sensor booster for a target painter, just a slightly different way to stack application. The MGE as a 5th mod is going to be very stacking penalized, and the target painter is a different stack so should give you better overall application.

I mean angels do 0 damage at 100km, I use a similar fit to blitz it, just have to pop ~5 BS to complete the mission.

This is my blitz setup, and since I only shoot battleships/structures with it I’m not too concerned with the application, if I was doing full clears I’d have rigors + flares. The MJD+MWD allows you to kite anything mission npcs throw at you. And the mordus missile velocity bonus allows missiles to hit before the next volley fires at 100km.

I consider this alternative to trade a litte bit raw dps for better damage application. This leaves some CPU for two (always passive) Auto Targeting Systems.

Just run the 1st mission with her, a Gone Beserk.

The Barghest has a serious handicap: It’s locking range is quite short. I micro jumped out of locking range of a few spawns :frowning:

Her 2nd mission was a Mordus Headhunter.

This Barghest can kill frigates with cruise missiles. The drones became optional.

And I was an idiot enough the kill them with Fury missiles instead of Precision missiles :wink:

the 4th bcu is +5% dps, if you want to try and give me a better option go ahead.

BTW using 2rigors+1 flare makes the mid guidance kinda useless. use painter instead.

Still I rather use a mwd to have more control.

But that’s just my opinion. And I would not oppose it to people who try and adapt :slight_smile:

The agency pyrolancer pill, duh!

The thing is, a painter has 45km optimal range and 135km falloff. It won’t do that much at 100+ km.

That’s where the signal amplifier comes into place. It is an incredible module which adds more lockable targets, gives ecm resistance and targeting range in one highly underrated module.

Try and take a mobile depot with you in case you need to switch that mjd for a mwd for far away gates.

135km is half efficiency
100km is 0.5^(55/135)² = 0.891 so less than 9% efficiency loss.

Not much != nothing.

90% > not much.
guidance is 1.1651.165 = +35.7% increase
painter is 38*0.91=33.8 increase at 100km.
with any other apply mod the guidance is worse than the painter at 100km.

I’m flying the second fitting that includes a Signal Amplifier. And still the Barghest’s locking range is quite limited for my liking.

You could invest some skill points in the Targeting skills, they will be helpful in virtually any profession you can do in the game.

If you already have all of them to V, it become troublesome =/
You could add an implant to top it off, it normally you should be good.
