Please critique my new portrait!

no seriously the reason why it will take me until tomorrow it’s going take hours to claw through all that makeup. Can’t you see it’s caked on?

Still gotta add at least a sheila!

(i can’t keep up with too much australian, all that googling is taking it’s toll)

You get extra Aussie points for the C word
haha! Gold.

Cute Character btw, I did notice her left eye looked like the pupil was slightly more dilated. She could possibly have Horner’s Syndrome. If she comes back positive from the eye specialist. Maybe some reading glasses would suit her to correct the Horner’s .

Cheers mate!

One eye’s in shadow, one eye’s in light! Not sure which left eye you’re talking about, btw. The left eye from the face’s perspective, or from your perspective?

Well, if she’s meant to look like she’s taking a selfy, then you should change the lighting effect so the front of her face is lit up. Right now it looks like the sides are lit up and the front of her face isn’t.

The correct lighting would have a shadow just underneath her chin with front of the face lit up.

The eyebrows seem ok, they could probably be arched up a bit on the outer edge of the face. You can do that by pulling the outer end of the eyebrows up in character portrait. Or just cycle through the various types of Eyebrows again.

Other than that, yeah cute freckles… Reminds me of a Pixie.

My mobile phone has a blue filter (really) and is generally set to be not bright at all. I know where you’re coming from with this, but my phone never actually lights my face. : D It’s really bad for the eyes!

Thanks for the input!

:+1:gj - you have a bit of a talent at the avatar thing.

Fly screen…interesting…something new learned…

Pretty good overall, but I would experiment with the lighting, makeup, and posing for improvements. You can’t really judge a face by its structure, so I’m going to keep my advice down to aesthetic features.

  • Generally, you want to capture the full head in the portrait (including the top of the hair), and ensure that the head occupies roughly the top two-thirds of the photo area.

  • Lower lip seems disproportionately large compared to the upper one using this angle, and the shadowing accentuates that effect.

  • The lighting is too jarring on the sides - skin should be lit up subtly, instead of shining like the sun.

  • Maybe the makeup is a bit too extreme. Unless you’re trying to look like some kind of courtesan? :stuck_out_tongue:

  • Photos with the subject looking directly at you should only have “plain” posing if you’re trying to go for a good mug-shot/wanted poster kind of vibe, which is what I was going for with my character for reference (in which case definitely leave the bottom 30-40% without any face). Maybe play around with body angles a little to make it more quirky and interesting?

Her left, the one in the shadows, could be nothing, but, it’s worth getting her checked to make sure she’s ok.

Looks nice overall, and it’s clear that you put more effort in it than most of the EVE portraits I see, which is a good thing! (We really need more portraits that do not look like they came out of the randomizer with blank expression…)

Some feedback:

  • the makeup around the eyes is too heavy IMO, especially with two colours. You could get the same effect, but more subtle, by toning it down
  • the lighting you’ve used creates some sharp contrasts in the picture (glowing sides of head, triangle shadow under face) - you may want to experiment more with light settings
  • EVE characters always look a bit uncanny and fake because they’re completely symmetrical. I usually try to use the facial expressions to subtly break that symmetry

That more than 20 words? Yay!

It may be just me, but it’s an interesting contrast with the freckles suggesting playfulness, while the glaring stare oozes space pirate. Nice work

If my pilot had a face like yours I would shave his butt and teach him to fly backwards. Seriously do yourself a favor and click the random button again.

Dang, another savage burn from Antacid Meatpacker, who looks like Fred Durst’s cadaver after a Limp Bizkit music video shoot at a masking tape factory went terribly wrong.
