There were threads complaining about PLEX price when it was 350M.
So I guess a “fair” price where nobody whine kinda has to be below the 350 mill mark.
It’s funny how JC’s example number was 300 mill.
Let’s just make the damn game free to play with PLEX used for injectors and special SKINs. Then you won’t require PLEX to fly your ship.
CCP will benefit from substantially increased player numbers thanks to dropping the pay wall, players will spend RL money for skill extractors (which are more economy efficient to CCP anyway), CCP retains profits and now has a thriving community and game worth investing in once more.
Problem solved. Right, guys?
yep isk was quite a bit scarcer back then though
so its all relative
who knows
only way to know is by trying it out
only problem is if they try it and it doesnt work
its not easy to go back to the previous model where people are expected to pay again
there will be riots
Or people will just leave and that’s probably a risk CCP is not willing to take. It’s all theorical for us because at the end of the day, we have no skin in it. At worst we lose “our” game but that’s it. My life would keep going while everyone at CCP could be out of a job if it really backfire.
I don’t know if f2p brings people (alpha-expansion didn’t) but having SP farms AND f2p will not work together.
Yeah i think that’s kinda what i’m getting at too. PLEX has always been extortionate for the newbro and easy for the established vet. Inflation has caused a bigger number on the end of PLEX and ships but it is STILL quite easy for established players to afford, and very hard for new players. ISK is a lot easier to obtain than ever before (actually not just a joke about ghost training). People are still complaining about the price but people are still buying them… same old same old.
It’s always gonna be expensive for the new guy unless you put no limit on supply because as soon as rarity goes up, those who can generate less income will be the first to drop out of being able to afford it.
You’re absolutely correct, it can not work with the current potential of ISK farms. The game design here would require adjustment to accommodate.
probably. It still continues a longer trend from 325 Million from a decade ago, and I’m curious if it will continue to increase somehow.
There’s a flip-side to that: players who rely on selling stuff for their income would struggle MORE to earn their PLEX - they get punished in two ways: their income is descreasing, while their cost of living is rising. “Need for ISK” and “Need for PLEX” are one and the same for some sectors of the playerbase, as they buy one with the other. But I’m not sure whether I’ve really answered your question in any sense… sorry.
Not completely relevant but interesting;
Back in 2012 I brought a Raven to run lvl 4’s on a newish alt, it cost me 169 million isk
Today (5 years on) that Raven would cost me 159 mil
Plex at the time had just hit 400 mil for a months subscription or 800K each for 500 with today’s plex.
Today, 500 plex is 1,659,222,000 (an increase of 450 mil since NUPlex, 1.25 bil over the last 5 years)
CCP can fix the PLEX prices extremely easily. And for free, too, no effort, no coding required.
All they have to do is announce the end of EVE. Or confirm that it’s dying, somehow. Maybe EVE 2 is in the works.
All they have to do is negate the confidence that all the PLEX hoarders have that PLEX will always be an option. If that confidence is ruined, they’ll all panic and sell everything they’ve hoarded, bringing the prices down.
There’s a slight flaw in that - sell it for what? Real money? Because anything else would be pointless, as it would still be trapped within the “doomed game” - therefore the percentage play for them would be to do nothing and see how it all shakes out.
EDIT: In any case, that “strategy” would never be implemented, because it would be marketing suicide - it would result in loss of existing subscribers/players, and reduced intake of new ones.
What would happen with all PLEX if CCP would close the game? Would they have to reimburse everything that was not consumed? What about subscriptions and available game time?
I doubt it. As far as I’m aware (but I haven’t memorised the EULA, so I may be mistaken), all in-game content is property of CCP (at least, that’s the usual policy in such contexts.)
So only all this RMT money pocketed by russians will stay in their pockets.
all MMOs are evolving, the ones that don’t die out. Even original EQ1 is still ticking, though not on this scale cause it has tons of more competition being a fantasy based game.
$15 is ok if this is the only game you play, if you play other games and compare features, it really is questionable. Personally, I’m not sure I would still play if I wasn’t able to plex omega at least once in a while.
I disagree, the depth of eve offers alot more then any new title I’ve played over the past 4-5 years. The sheer volume of content merits a 14.99/mo payment for me atleast.
