Price of Plex - Market intervention Required from CCP

You seem to be the rare kind of semi-literate person that can write but not read.

It’s easily remedied. You already have everything you need except the will to face your problem, and the discipline to deal with it.

I don’t mind, nor usually react to, being insulted by people I don’t take seriously, but at least do it properly.

Another issue is the SP farmers consuming huge amounts of plex to keep their alts going I would’ve liked a model where sp extraction was something you did to gain extra isk for wasted SP or SP you didn’t need than a self sufficient farming cycle

Dread Saboteur, Destriouth

Do either of you know (approximately) what proportion of in-game PLEX consumption is related to SP?

Also (perhaps hard to know): has there been an increase in SP farming lately (as might happen if an SP-related price changed, or if it it became more efficient to automate some aspect of SP farming)?

No but quantity of monthly bought plex with real cash was never shown to us.We could be working mostly in supply from last year

Thanks!

It’s not clear to me why the price has gone up so much. One poster (who IIRC works in Finance - anyway his input on this was very good) said there’s quite a lot of “hoarded” PLEX being use to store value, because ISK deflates, but PLEX doesn’t.

Generally when there’s a price spike stored inventory will be released into the market - unless the hoarders think the value will continue to increase.

So the possible reasons are:

  • Less supply (fewer PLEX bought via PLEX4cash)
  • Increased demand (more alts, bots, SP farming)
  • Hoarders buying on a rising market (which can make sense, and some/many of them are traders, who are among those best able to assess the market)

It would be interesting if a big increase in “ISK-mining” was doing something a bit like what the banks did prior to 2008: inflating the market independently of normal economic factors. Or maybe we should compare with Bitcoin, even though their mining isn’t like EVE’s.

Sooner or later every financial bubble bursts … unless the government gets scared and re-inflates the bubble

What do you need? My python code sucks millions of ESI war data points in a reasonable timeframe and I’m sure I can adapt it. Don’t know about the market endpoints, can look it up though.

Maybe I can help you?

Have you considered a raw Plex Item cap? Perhaps limiting users to only 6 months subscription time per account in raw Plex at once. Additionally a way to make sure alt accounts are not used to bypass this restriction you could implement a plex detection system similar to your Alpha and Omega detection…You would of course have to be fair about it, warn the stockpile players in advance so they have time to off load their reserves, most likely at a loss. Perhaps it will teach them to avoid such insane gouging tactics like this in the future. A system like this would also punish any market bot accounts which are following their programming and thus compounding the situation further.

It all sounds so simple doesn’t it?

People like you are the reason i still check forums every once in a while. Honestly, just look at the current housing situation. Prices still keep going up because everyone wants to buy and sell at a profit, and there’s no reprecussions. Sucks to be poor, either you have isk to invest in plex or you don’t and you’re stuck poor

In that line of intervention I think it is more “fair” and effective to put a counter on the PLEX item, so a PLEX can only be sell or contracted once. If you buy a plex in the game market or in contract it goes directly to your PLEX vault and you can only spend it. Any stockpiled PLEX would be sell once anyway so there is no loss for those who invested buying PLEX.

This will stop speculation, probably reduce the price of PLEX, or at least stop the rise.

Stop crying about the price of PLEX.

No no no . Cry some more! would be better

If plex prices go up, at some point people do leave the game. That impacts ccp.

This is why ccp need to do more to keep the price of plex down for the future sustainability of the game.

While your statement is true, it also is a bit of a paradox as the price has always been going up (in general). I’m sure every month or two, somebody like yourself has made a similar comment. I’m no bitter vet yet for me, it has more than tripled in my Eve-lifetime…still here.

I point to ore availability to being the root of all evil but then again I wear shoes with Velcro laces so…

Yep. If income goes up at the same relative speed it’s sort of acceptable, but I’m not sure it does.

I also think the currency value of plex should come down and reflect more the purchasing power of the economy someone is in.

As a single character player who makes plenty of ISK each month to purchase PLEX, income is fine.

Might I ask what activities do you currently participate in that makes you feel like your income is unable to keep pace with PLEX?

I love it…players thinking CCP should be trying to combat income inequality via PLEX prices…seriously, Whisky Tango Foxtrot?
