Hello fellow pilots.
I was told by support to voice my concern, about the gap that has developed between the prices set for European and American capsuleers, in this public forum.
Let me first state that as of today 1 EUR = 1.17 USD or 100 Euros is 116.71 American Dollars.
Now on that note please consider that European pilots pay the same amount of currency for everything they buy on the EVE Store. (please consider : 12 month OMEGA pack is 144 € as well as 144 $) However if we were to convert the 144 € it results in 168.07 $. This is a 24.07 dollar extra some have to pay. Or in other words an extra 500PLEX worth.
As my personal finances are not even in the middle of the average in Europe I set out to see the possibilities of reducing the impact of a purchase. However if i am going to be charged an extra 17% just because i happen to live on the same continent as Germany, France and Spain, I might have to consider just staying ALPHA or supporting 3rd parties like STEAM and HumbleBundle where I don’t get this treatment.
My goal with this post would probably be something on the lines of “let Europeans pay the same amount” by either allowing us to select the currency of the shop allowing Europeans to pay in dollars or adjusting the value of the packs in euro to diminish the gap. (for example the previous pack 12 month Omega should be more around 125 euros).
Thank you for reading and fly as safe as you like.
PS: i have found multiple discussions on this topic however i did not want to “necro” those treads. I apologies for the inconvenience.

I think this difference may be a result of fluctuating currency rates.
Such rates aren’t static:
On the other hand CCP wants to keep the prices of subscriptions predictable, thus mostly static (besides big price changes).
So for the convenience of a predictble price that is static in our own currency rather than that we’re all paying for EVE in Icelandic Krona it just so happens that Americans have slightly cheaper costs today.

And why exactly is it that you can’t pay in dollars? Come on, get yourself informed. Don’t stay behind!
There are official resellers, you don’t have to use the EVE store. Buy your stuff at a worldwide retailer where you can pay with paypal in dollars. They also offer promotions and discounts.
You will get a redeemable code that you then enter in your account management in the EVE store. Link for redeeming is on the bottom.

Terms and conditions apply if you make a purchase in USD and your own currency (as far as your bank are concerned) is EUR then you may end up eating a forex fee large enough to negate any savings intended by purchasing in USD and could potentially end up paying more as a result.
You all bring up fair alternatives.
Please let me clarify some of the points.
Considering the exchange rates. The EUR to USD rate has not been in the favor of Euro since 2022 even then it was only for a few months.
While i understand static prices in my opinion these should probably be reviewed every 1-2 years.
Third party retailers are a solution. As I mentioned i will probably use STEAMs options but i was hoping to get in on the current promo on the main EVE Store to maybe get those 1000 plex added to it. I have a limited yearly game budget so i have to make the best of what I get.
As for fees… I am pretty sure the max fee most processor are currently allowed to charge is 5% but it is usually between 0 to 3%. Thus would not even get close to the 17% i was referencing in the original post.
Thanks to all who viewed and replied. You all bring up fair points and I will try to keep them in mind. For now I am still fence sitting as this is a sizable chunk to pay at once. In both EUR and USD.
Not sure, why you are telling EUR to USD is not in favor for EUR? It might not always be as much and be shifting around, but today i save:
Example:
3000 PLEX package in store is 125 EUR
3000 PLEX at retailer is 125$ which would be 109 EUR at todays rate. And that value is even before possible discounts at the retailer.
I really do not know where your values come from. I think you have done the conversion direction in the wrong way or thought of it in the wrong way. 1$=0,87EUR as of right now. You want to pay the dollar amount and need to check how many EUR you need for that. Not the other way around. This requires that the seller lists the item in dollar, which is only true at the retailer and not at CCP of course. CCP want EUR from you.
EDIT: and you missed your options for the whole chain now, i feel sorry for you…it goes like this: buy discounted PLEX → buy them at retailer to do $/EUR conversion profit → get discount on top of that (3-10% depending on your history) → use the bought PLEX to buy discounted gametime in NES.
Thats the quadruple save chain. But in a recent blog about the new packages CCP also told that they want to prevent this metagame in the future if i recall correctly. So bad that you missed it. I don’t know if and when it will be possible again in the future. In the past it was frequently possible.
