I edited my reply, hopefully it correctly list’s the current CSM members…
I guess where the real work is, is with the container system..
A rough cut of my idea is something like this.
You have the basic container aka the cabinet..
In here you will then be able to add new containers aka the drawers..
In these containers you should be able to add yet another set of containers
aka the splitters in the drawers..
So you have the big container (should be too big to be moved when assembled)
Then you have the drawers inside.
could name them for example.. Ships / Ammo / Rigs / Modules
Then you have the splitters.
So now inside Ships / Ammo / Rigs / Modules
you can add say in ships → Gallente/Amarr/Caldari/Minmatar
and then if there is added this feature where Blueprints automatically return to where they where used from while the finished product will end up at the specified location.
That would be jovely
activiiity
why not roughly sort the blueprints by type into like 10 containers (ships, parts, ammo, modules…) and then just filter inside the container by typing in the first few letters?
tbh I have quite a large blueprint collection and I can find whatever I need in less than 5 seconds…
That is what i am doing right now..
but it still leaves a heck load of containers filling the hangar..
Im also having a good load of blueprints.
So many at times it lags a wee bit when i load up the Factory window and look after bps
Which is why im looking for a better solution.
in rough terms my solution “just” requires them to make a new container where it is possible to put containers into. (edit) Or Crimsons solution which comes with a pre-selection of tabs. (hopefully with a basic set of names but with option for renaming)
So you could have one Cabinet called Weapons.
in here you have a drawer for each category..
Yeah I understand that part. I am just confused how that is easier than filtering.
For example, if I need a Harbinger Blueprint, I go into the “Ships” Container and type “har” into the filter, and voilá I have what I need. If I want to produce armor plates, I go to the “modules” container and type in “1600” for example…
Now in your proposed idea I’d go to the “Cabinet” container, then to the subfolder “Ships” and then I’d either have still 200 blueprints and need to search the “Harbinger” ones, or I’d need more subfolders like “Amarr” and “Battlecruiser”… thats way more complex, not?
No, the BP Filing Cabinet / container itself would still have the search option…
I think this proposal basically eliminates the need to have multiple containers in item’s hangar filled with various BP’s when they can all be sorted and kept in one main container, hence the reason for ‘Folder’ tabs… Could even have a search option on each of those folder tabs as well…
As for the OP’s original idea of having one or more containers be placed inside of another larger container, the current game mechanics prohibit that action..
I could be wrong but I think making a new container with folder tabs would be much easier to implement without having to dive into a bunch of old code…
Thats exactly the idea.
instead of having 50 different containers in the hangar.
you have 1 or 5 containers that will have those 50 sub categories.
how it is done i guess will be up for the devs for the find the easiest solution to implement.
maybe instead of as i suggested 1 container where you can put containers into.
then maybe just 1 container where you some how can create subfolders and name them?
the reason i suggest being able to add folders is.
People sort it in each their own way.. so having a container come with a preset amount might not work out for them
But yea an idea in progress lets refine it

cmon bobbas
I realised that this actually sort another possible issue.
Since it will be a BP only container.
You dont risk that the product will end up in the container with the BP by mistake.
The unified inventory was not really a step forward in any way. It was designed in 2012. This sort of blueprint filing cabinet would be a step forward if done right.
There could be different kind of cabinets even with a form of auto sort function.
those with auto sort would most likely come with a preset setup and cant be customized
or you can get those without auto sort but have custom configuration..
Say you buy a AMMO cabinet
It will only accept Ammo BPs.
It made so you can have it sort it with categories matching the marked.
So for example
Projectile
L
M
S
etc etc
And then it should be able to show you if you have ALL different bps of say projectile ammo or if you are missing in your collection..
(again this is a raw idea prolly need refinement so if u got any you are more than welcome to add your insight :D)
In regards to BP sorting in general under say your production list..
Instead of showing that you have for example say.
100 Cormorant navy 1 run bpcs..
which becomes a loooong list to scroll through..
How about They instead said.
Aight that right there is all BPCs and its all for the same Ship.
So now it will show 1 BPC followed by a number in this case 100.
“100 Cormorant Navy”
And then you can click on it and it will expand the list.
Also say it will not stack BPC under BPO..
These 2 will each have their stack.
If you want to split it more.
you could say if there is 0 research on a BPO it will get its on seperate list instead of being stacked with the researched.
Still that leaves you to scroll through 3/4 BPs of the type..
1 BPO with research
2 BPO without research
3 BPC with research
4 BPC without research.
Still beats having to scroll past 100 of the same..
Still gets a +1 from me.
Sounds good, the current BP management system desperately needs an overhaul. its YC128 not the dark ages!
In one way you could make one blueprint UI that is pretty much just a copy pasta of the marked UI.
Hopefully a little better improved marked UI where there is less clicking for each category.
Like you could have it show ALL of one factions ships in one row
Just seperated by a line quickly saying interceptors to inform which ship type it is.
Or better yet.
you could have it show ALL of one type of ship like again show all Battlecruisers.
Those that you Own bpo of will have a darkblue background to show it.
those that you have a bpc of will have a light blue background. followed by a number to inform you of how many runs available
and those you dont own will be greyed out just like on the marked if its not available.
And when you then click on a specific ship it will then load the list of those BPs.
This should solve the load lag that people with many BPs experience.
As it now should work more like the marked and not load everything at once
This also gives a very very easy overview for collectors to keep track of which they own
And this could work very well in with a good form for container to store these bps.
This is a rough sketch
Had to add a temp place for pirate faction didnt see an icon for it.
The different sub ship designation like “command ship” should stand a bit more out.
But the idea is i click Battlecruisers and it justs open the list with all the different battlecruisers a bit in the style of what is presented here.
so that i dont need to click a ton.
Again here we should use color coding out on the left.
Dark blue for BPO
Light blue for BPC followed by a number representing runs left
Grey for you have no BPs for it
And a mix where left half is dark blue and right half is light blue if you own both
Then when you click on a ship of your choice then you get the right side here..
right now that is just a copy pasta of the current production window.
Any ways bask in the light of my “beautiful” artwork
THIS
You beat me to it, i was hoping to again cause some forehead slapping like I did years ago, when I suggested using the Ship’s fitting window for Structure fitting too, after all its just a ship that never moves right? lol
BUT you beat me to it this time. yes using the Market interface for blue prints makes sense, just restrict it to show only blueprints and point it at yout character’s/corp’s blueprints in the database.
I was working out how to deal with the panes on the right and i like yiour idea of merging the industry window. my idea was to when you click on a blueprint in the folder lest on the left (ordered the same way as it is in the market) then on the right you would get two lists the top would be all blue prints that fall under that one (children - ie., items that have to be built to be components in the selected blueprints materials list) and below that is a list of blue prints that the selected one is a child of, very handy since there can be more than one).
then click the details tab shows all the info for the blueprint like the info window now does.
Then upgrades to this can allow clicking on things to make a grocery list of things to buy, a skill tab to show the skills needed and their current training status, etc.
Anyway, not going to get into the weeds on this, just supporting the suggestion to pattern a Blueprint window on the market window. or even a pane on the industry window.
Great ideas
The core problem is already mentioned, its database issues, each BPC has an unique entry, that is why they aew not stackable. BPO with the same research level dont have the same ID AFAIK.
That needs to be solved first, number of runs visible in number (maybe visivle wear and ripped edges, so different icons for different runs)
Filing them correctly in cans is fine for me as it is atm, I wouldn’t need extra storing upgrades, having a good naming and grouping system is key.
But working on the backend would solve many problems and enable so many options. Item hangar is only part of the problem, the contracting system (means to sell or buy) is also important in this.
