maybe they’ll learn that attracting people who need to be convinced that they’re wanting to play isn’t actually a good way of attracting people into EVE.
Um…
EvE’s unique style of sandbox play and one world market is entirely what makes EvE a niche game, and why it still exists. People play here because they want their choices to actually matter. Take EvE away, and some other game will fill the niche that EvE does.
People are voting with their feet for let’s say 5 years now.
EvE has been dying since 2003… and will hopefully continue to die for many more years to come.

Making statistical claims without actually backing up said claim with numbers is a practice that is quite common. I think it deserves a name. I would like to suggest that from here on, we refer to this practice as: “Salvosing”.
Reads op. -_- I am a person who is scared to go to null sec or low sec, and still does not support what you just said. protection for newbies? Tell me if you see a problem with this:
-
Create a totally new EVE account and new character. Do not skip tutorial, but just don’t do it.
-
Take your velator with its civilians fitted and find a ganker (in suspect or criminal status) in udema.
-
Fight with ganker.
-
Ganker not able to destroy the velator due to your suggested new newbie protection mechanics.
-
Ganker’s catalyst destroyed. Noobie gets bragging rights on Zkill board for destroying a catalyst in a velator using civ modules.
So noooo. Your suggestion is only going to make it easier to gank. Loosing ships, implants, fighting with wrong NPC’s as a pure alpha, is the learning process. I learned it the hard way.
I thought Rancer was a safe place when Noobie trap makers in “Rookie chat” on my first day in the game, told me it was a very safe place. When I got my shuttle destroyed I learned.
I once saw two Autolysian lancer Cruisers. I was in a megathron with incorrect fitting (used medium turrets instead of large). Thought it was going to be easy. Lost my megathron, without even being able to destroy any of the two ships. I learned about fitting a ship correctly, as well as the fact that Autolysian Lancers are very hard to defeat for Omega BS, and even harder and near impossible for Alpha BS.
I once was doing an event in a Mymidron, saw another event participants ship explode when destroyed by a event NPC rat. Took the stuff thinking it was just one jump to my Slave Freeing Event hide out. Jumped to ammar(system) got warp scrambled and destroyed by PIRAT right at the gate I appeared in. They even destroyed my pod, I did not get a chance to even get my stuff back I knew when my new clone was made at my home base all the way in gallente base. I knew by the time I reached ammar(system), maybe they even salvaged the wreck of my ship. Learned that one should not be in an expensive ship if they want to steal someone else’s loot/wreck. Luckily the owner of the corp I am in, gave me a replacement mymidron.
One learns from experience, not from doing anything because they are being protected 24/7. If that was the case, when their accounts get older and they loose the protection, they will be using expensive ships, and probably incur high amounts of losses.
So…let me get this straight…you trusted players in game that you had no reason to trust and you got burnt…both times.
Well, seems like you learned a valuable lesson. Do not trust those who have given you no reason to trust. In most of RL we trust people who have given us little or no reason to trust them. We buy stuff from stores fairly sure we can get out money back if the product is defective. We trust our employers to pay us the correct amount. We even trust our governments not to come and take all that we’ve earned.
EVE is different. Trust has to be earned and that is a long and slow process. You have learned a couple of valuable life lesson’s here. I trust precisely about 4-5 players in game. I trust them because of our long history of playing together.
OP can trust me. I am not like those pathetic scammers.
Unless you have payed for the scammed “goods” with reallife money - you have lost nothing in terms of any real value - only your precious life time. If you did - it depends how much and if you want your money back - PM me. If you ask my opinion - dont bother with this game at a current state. The only lever to make changes to the game as to any product is not to use it. For PVE oriented player there is nothing to do anyway as this game cornerstone is PVP. PVP vs PVE Ratio is ca. 99% to 1%. There is no PVE story, no pve progress where you can say - I played 6 months and got XYZ in terms of avatar gear or skills. The only thing you get is the ability to use “stone age” interface/ship properly and right reaction time in battle like a rat in a skinner box. Plus the full version costs monthly fee as a simple decent Gym.
The wolves are still there even if you are pretending they are not…
They will tear down your precious game and make it mass compatible and CCP has nothing to say about it…
Just understand that PA bought THE WHOLE CCP and that this INCLUDES EVE online and that furthermore all statements about “keeping the game and CCP independent” is just propaganda to calm down eve’s community…
Even if you misbelive it they CAN and they WILL enforce massive changes to the game to give the game the status discribed above and they will do it EVEN if you protest, threaten them with you leaving and unsubbing or getting salty in any other imaginable way.
We will see some kind of loot boxes and even maxed out chars for real money.
We will see the “golden ammo” and many more great benefits you can imagine to buy for real money…
We will see them spawning massive amounts of stuff THEY like into the market thus removing the "player controlled market, simply deleting it.
THEY will decide the price of a market item not anyone else…
You don’t want to believe me?
Well look at black desert online…do you REALLY think they change their course just because you don’t like it?
The wolves are still there even if you are pretending they are not…
They will tear down your precious game
Who’s pretending?
You, after all, are the one who is making this up. True, you may very well be proven to be correct in the end, but that does remove the fact that you apparently have no evidence on which to base those predictions currently.
Separately, if by referring to “your” game, that means you somehow have no skin in this game at the moment, then why not leave? Including, why not leave these forums?
If you do have direct playing or pecuniary interest, then what is your manifesto for, 1) improving the game, 2) at least making the new owners aware of what changes you, personally, would like, 3) providing evidence of the number of existing and/or past players who support your position (whatever that is under point #1) ?

SALVOS ALERT…!!! SALVOS ALERT…!!!
Seriously… Are you a Salvos Alt or just a member of his fanclub…?
There was someone else around here new who was telling Ima off for “bullying that nice Mr Salvos”
I really don’t like the parts about “anti-social” players and “psychopaths”. You wouldn’t label a boxer as anti-social or a psychopath for punching their opponent in the face, would you? It’s what boxing is about after all, isn’t it? Now, Eve is among other things about deception, theft and violence. So, you’d have to expect players to shoot you, to lie to you and to steal from you. Does that make them anti-social or psychopathic?
I would recommend you figure out what those things mean, and what the game you are playing is about before you put labels on fellow players.
But let’s ignore that, because you are a newbie, and I like newbies. I agree - it would help Steam reviews if there was some form of newbie protection, and it might even help some players to come to grips with the game before they rage quit. I would certainly not be opposed to some form of protection for newbies, really. However, I think, that it’s simply not possible without seriously breaking the game. And I would rather like to keep the game somewhat intact than protect newbies if given the choice.
It starts right away with the question: “What is a newbie?”
Is it a new account? How new? Well, I have been playing this game for 10 years, yet I can make a new account. I could certainly use a character that can ship around my ridiculously expensive officer modules while being protected from any unconsensual PvP or scams or other shenanigans. But if I could do that, then everyone could. Why would anyone still haul anything through highsec on their main characters, when they could do it in perfect safety on a new account? Sure, you’d have to make an account every 30 days, but that’s a small price to pay.
Is it a character with low skillpoints? How low? Anyone can make a new character, and you don’t need much to fly a basic hauler, and you don’t need much to do many other things in the game. So, the same question applies: If low SP characters were protected, why would anyone still use their main characters?
Eve is a game where even a new character or a character with very little in terms skillpoints and ISK can be very useful to a corp or to a fleet. Where they can be very successful by all sorts of measures even while new. Eve is a game where many things are of value, that even a newbie can do, and that you would not even consider to be relevant in other games. Even just knowing where a player is, let alone seeing them, knowing what they’re flying or being able to get close to them to provide a warpin for your fleet are very mighty tools that every newbie can use from day one. A newbie scouting for a fleet is something the one who’s being scouted really might want to get rid of. A newbie hauling blueprints or other high value assets is a juicy target for pirates, or a boon to the owner of those items. A newbie supplying a camped in group of older players with ammunition or ship hulls can even be strategically significant. Newbies and new characters have a lot of power in this game, which is why we cannot shield them from what this game is without ■■■■■■■ everything up.
“When I play Battlefield all players on my team are freedom fighters and good people, the other team are murderers, psychopaths and really just obnoxious folks. If they kill me that means they must be psychopaths IRL, why can’t they just stop shooting me and behave in a friendly manner”.

You mean beside you’re confessing that i’m maybe right you don’t like the way i’m saying it?
Is this the real problem or wouldn’t it be better we would focus on the fact that i’m maybe right?

No. We should focus on the fact that you have no idea whether you are right or not. And you are facilitating the rest of the “forum breed”, in foisting their digital diarrhea over everything else, by keeping a conversation going that neither side can prove…
Who cares what you say. Or how you say it. As long as you have facts to back it up. And/or a plan to change things; perhaps. So, do you have either? Facts? Or a plan?

So ignoring the big things and jumping on the less important(grammatic for example) is enough as an distraction for you not to think about the maybe coming reality?
I see…this means kill the messenger to be able to continuiosly telling yourself that all is right…
Pretty way too simple don’t you think?
WHAT REALITY ?
It is in your imagination.
Yes, it might still end up being true. Meanwhile, you are determined to keep a discourse alive without recourse to potential solutions.
OK. Big Picture. You think there is a possibility (probability?) that the sky is going to fall in on EvE? Fine. But you cannot, or will not supply facts to support your ’ thesis. Nor will you give ideas as to how you would go about sorting it out.
Conversation over.

ya guys need to keep in mind that for these people the game’s reality. they’re immersing themselves into it, turning it into a reality they wish to be like they want it to be. that’s really important to consider and internalize whenever yer approaching these kind of folks.
and hey, if ya got any corpses ya don’t mind giving a new home, please contract them over to me! i take care of them and spread them out in small groups so they’re never alone yet don’t suffer from overcrowded places! they really hate that, ya know?
if ya got any corpses ya don’t mind giving a new home, please contract them over to me
[I always collect then trash all corpses. I have singularly failed to find any other options, such as for an ethereal “burial at sea”, or a cadaver probe launch into a moon. Nor does it even appear that they can be biomassed. So, they are digitally disincorporated instead.
Not that I’m at all immersed in the topic you understand. And the twitching does stop when I turn EvE off. (Sometimes.)]
OMFG PLEASE STOP DOING THAT YER uh uuuuuhhhh KILLING THEM! CONTRACT THEM TO ME SO THEY MAY uuuuuhhh LIVE!
