That is epic. I approve of this way of dealing with bots.

Part of me is concerned with the loot but the more I look at this the more I come to the conclusion this is a good idea. There could be several good reasons to do this with one of the most important being public shame or proof of work.

Here, have a symbol. Look at the left hand. Forget about the right one having very little impact.

Yes, public shaming would be a very important reason.

It’s actually a very very bad idea. It’s like a company playing politics. Here, have some distraction, bit of panem et circenses.

I get where the idea comes from, and I do not discount the thinking and the motivation behind it. But this kind of thing is generally not very productive for dealing with the reality behind perception problems (biggest historic challenge to the venture of EVE). It distracts, it masks, and then ultimately it causes pants to drop to ankles. And by then the damage is cumulative.

Also, ■■■■ Reddit. These are the official forums. Why is it so wrong for GM’s and other staff to interact here? Just because of policies originating in ancient trauma?

That’s because of the forum rules.

Now, please do the same with mining bot fleets…

I don’t believe this is to address the botting problem as much as it is to prove that action IS being taken. By all accounts we are only fed numbers and never any proof. This should be the proof to long settle the argument about CCP being complicit.

I expect no action is going to be perceived good completely but the more I look at this the more I come to the conclusion any bad is outweighed by its good on this.

Nice to see the names of alliances, too.

It is and it isn’t.
It’s not strictly speaking going to do anything that banning won’t in terms of putting off individuals from doing it.
What it is very much doing is bolstering our faith that something is actually happening
And probably more importantly shaming y the corps and alliances harbouring them (aware or not) .

Hopefully they’ll keep this up because if an alliance gets a name for allowing this crap I can see them becoming pariah’s pretty quickly.

you wanna go to FRAT or Russian space,

the botting is so obvious and done without regard for being caught, the only thing you can do to stop them is to scrape VIN numbers from cpu chips and ban those

Comedy gold.

No need to spin cautionary tales. Maybe you only don’t know how to enjoy this, but nobody really cares. We are all gamers here. We all know we’re just spectators to something we have no control in. So enjoy the moment and don’t over-think this.

And don’t think CCP is doing this to fool us. They will be enjoying every bit of it as much as we do. We all get to have a moment of fun with botters. Try to cherish the moment as something special, because such moments are rare.
