Raven Navy Issue, cap stable mission runner

(Hewlatt) #1

Old player returning after a few years absence… sorry about posting another RNI thread.

I want to solo Level 4’s. I’ve liked the RNI for a long time and want to give it a try. I’ve looked over several RNI fits and just haven’t seen exactly what I want. I prefer being cap stable and I am trying to find a comfortable mix of tank/dps. I’ve run Level 4’s in the past but always in CORP so first time soloing beyond Level 3s. I had a fit on Battle Clinic bookmarked but sadly BC is gone. I think some guy named MIke-something posted it in case anyone remembers it (fat chance). I’m not worried about ISK or skills, I can be patient if I need to make a bit more ISK or train up another skill or two.

Below is what I am thinking:

I think you could do better. Tanks ~800 against Guristas, but only ~480 against uniform damage.

Try Osmium.

[EDIT] I shinied it up a bit. Tanks a lot more.

I’ve been away from EVE for a few years - don’t remember using cap battery modules before - is that a new thing? I played around with my original fit and your suggestions. I think this new one looks pretty good - alot of the expense is that adaptive invul - but i could just do 3 mission specific hardeners for less. I just have the adaptive invul in there for those occasional weird missions with a third damage type. (usually missile towers) .

pyfa says: dps=888, volley=76323, EHP/s=619, effective HP=77.2K (with drones off)
-cap stable at 50%
-that is all skills 5 but at 40mil SP the numbers won’t be off by much.
-and thanks for the feedback.

also - may look at Golem or something else eventually. Always loved the look of the Raven so kind got my heart set on it I guess.

(Chocolate Pickle) #5

Cap Batteries got a very nice buff recently.

They’ve previously been useless - which I expect was the case when you last played, and hence your unfamiliarity with them.

Simulating both your fit and mine, your Adaptive Inv. gives you more EHP, but my XL Shield Booster means I ultimately can shrug off more EM/Explosive damage than yours. Running a standard T2 Adaptive Inv. will be good enough if you bling your damage-specific hardeners.

(Tiddle Jr) #6

Try vice versa and make it triple CCC, in lows swap coils for missile enhancers, also consider XL-ASB vs. deadspace SB and trade second amplifier for sebo.

(Chocolate Pickle) #7

Not for mission running you shouldn’t!

(Tiddle Jr) #8

You don’t permanently run shield booster don’t you?

(Chocolate Pickle) #9
  1. OP likely intends on doing so: their requirement is cap-stability.
  2. Booster charges take up space that would be otherwise used for mission loot.

(Tiddle Jr) #10
  1. if he wants it doesn’t mean it has to be done plus he has missed a few years and what was back in time now been reworked. Cap stable mission running boat is one of the common mistakes all newbies trying to achieve. If u run missions you know well you don’t need cap stable boat, ofc it’s not related to Amarr’s line with active tank.

  2. XLASB uses Navy Cap booster 400 which are not required mush of the cargo space.

Definitely appreciate the help here folks.

1st - Pickle’s fit would have made alot more sense in PYFA if I realized there was an extra “X” in the “Gist X-Type X-Large Shield Booster”. I accidentally put it in as a Gist X-Type Large Shield Booster". Whoops.
2nd - I’ve seen some of the MJD builds out there but had stayed away from them just because I’ve never used an MJD before. But I assume the concept is just use it to “kite” the NPCs and keep them at long range for cruise missiles?
3rd - I’ve always built cap stable in the past to keep me out of trouble if I do something truly stupid - but I don’t mission AFK so I might give it a try.
4th - I generally loot/salvage with a Noctis (if the mission is worth it) so burning some cargo space probably isn’t the end of the world.

Having said all that - I’ll think I’ll try out both build ideas and see what I like. I’ll probably run it through some Lev-3s until I feel comfortable with how to fly/fight it before I jump into 4s.

-thanks again!

typically you shouldn’t but if you have connection problems, or reasons to frequently run afk, it can be a ship saver. Probably want one of the gist booster setups for that, the pithum setups rely on either piloting or killing npcs.

mostly, it’s boring but effective. There are a few missions where you can use the MJD more offensively and use the MJD to land at close range to spawns that are 100km from the warp in. You can also use the MJD to escape missions, jumping 100km should get you out of range of npc points.

Also loot/salvage values have mostly tanked over the years so it largely isn’t worth gathering imo.

I like the pithum setups, I changed the one posted above to make it a lot cheaper. if you are kiting you only need a small amount of tank as only a few ships can hit you. Can also use the AB to reduce incoming damage. And if you are actively playing you can typically just face tank most missions as you kill the incoming DPS faster than it can kill you. CNR has a lot of buffer HP, and alright dps.

Agree with CsP’s set up but really out of my nature the cap stable thing. Lol remember my first Ashummu fit where I put as many as I could cap recharges and cap relays.

(elitatwo) #15

??? What’s this for?

Did you know, a Raven Navy Issue goes 1121m/s with a 500 cold gas enduring mwd and no other module on?

Flying 50km at 342m/s is very painful.

(Tiddle Jr) #16

If you read that correctly the guy is very taft about cap stability. I mean he wants that rock solid no matter if you :snail:

(Anderson Geten) #17

speed tanking

(Tiddle Jr) #18

CNR speed tanking ?! Doh…

(Chainsaw Plankton) #19

EFT has the CNR at 477 m/s with that AB and max skills. Far less painful at that speed than base. And if speed is a primary concern you can always refit to an MWD, just need to pulse it to keep it stable.

also since it is a missile ship you can just start burning to wherever you need to be as soon as you land without needing to worry about tracking

(Tiddle Jr) #20

Why not mjd to keep the distance vs. burning an or mwd
