Returning vet after long (5+ years) absence: HAC/Cruiser du jour?

Title says it all - have returned to the game (but not forum warrioring yet!), and looking at getting back into cruiser solo pvp.

Assume that I know nothing or next to nothing about the current state of ships, as I’m fairly sure things have been changed almost beyond recognition since 2015…what cruiser sized hull would be good for soloing in low sec? Assume that I can fly and fit anything (except for the new stuff)

Fittings would also be appreciated - thanks for your time!

People like to blop you, so you need something that can keep its range, so you can moonwalk out.
Great cruisers are Stabbers (cheap), Orthrus, Omen Navi Issue. T3Cs are good but expensive.
The Kikimora is a super strong new ship and you should skill it.
Selflink kity BC can work (rail Brutix, drek)

Great advice, thanks!

Why are you running shield and armour tank?

You’re sacrificed damage bonus modules to get dual tank.

Add T1 ammo for Rats, and maybe remove remote reps foe neuts. But have a play with the fit till you get what suits you.

Though word of warning the Trig HAC can get well into the 8bil mark depending on your fit, and easily handle T3TC one on one.

Judging by recent Cruiser group KB stats, Osprey Navy Issue might be worth trying, if 80-200M is in your price range. I don’t have missile skills myself, but the fits that handle everything from frigates to HACs typically include RLML and Neuts in the highslots, Nanos and BCSs in the lows, and a mix of buffer and injected shield tank. You could probably first go with Caracal if you wanted a cheap approximation of the same experience.

That is a clear, concise suggestion - thank you very much, in particular for the generalised fitting advice. Bumble appreciates it!

Just use a barghast and Alpha ■■■■ from 300km away

OP asked for cruiser for solo pvp
so, even if he got good advices,
kiki (dessie)
brutix and drekavacs (bcs)
raven and barghest (BS)
and some “spider” fits (which means RR and therefore no solo, right?)
are not the answer he was looking for

If you’re good, T3Cs (Loki/Legion) due to being able to do anything.
If you’re flying fleets, HACs (Munnin).
If you want pve too, T3Cs (Tengu).
If you want to go to null or want to reduce losses from unavoidable blobs/gatecamps etc, T1 cruisers (Thorax for blapping before alts arrive or RLM Caracal for anti-frig/dessie).

While Arbitrators are certainly menacing, you can do some funky stuff. ASB boosts you from 10% back to 100%, DCU for a bit of buffer, once ASB ran through, offline ASB, inject cap, online plate. Can also swap MWD for 10mn AB, meta DCU and cap booster and fit 2 rapid lights instead of rockets.
