Ok so someone in the future maybe will “rise up to the challenge”.
At which point EVE will be left behind. Such a shame.
So to prevent this future shame, we should put in the effort right now to completely change EVE, to “pioneer” this “radical evolution”, this “high stakes” “new paradigm.”
Got any more buzzwords? Only used a few, your pitch is kinda lacking oomph.
We want to play a game.
You want to make RL money OFF a game.
The part I don’t get… Why does this have to involve EVE? I mean wouldn’t it be better to devote all PC resoueces to Block Chain mining while doing something else on say a phone or console? I don’t quite get why EVE has to be involved in the process
I have no clue, and from what I’m reading blockchain technology is peer-to-peer, whereas EVE is completely server-based. Which makes his statement that EVE is the “perfect platform” complete ■■■■■■■■. All his statements are ■■■■■■■■, buzzwords, and attempts to manipulate / gather support, for something that nobody seems to want.
This thread is a total troll; it even has personal attacks on those who disagree with him.
I see this type of people all the time. Blockchain is basically a distributed database which solves the trust issue with some clever crypto. But it is horribly slow and also consumes huge amounts of energy to the point where it actually becomes an issue already.
Most tech people if confronted with this would think “OK, interesting technology, may have some interesting usecases”.
People like the op on the other hand think, “OMG it is the NEXT BIG THING it will solve and replace EVERYTHING!! I shall tell everyone about it so they know I’m on top of it and did not miss out on this REVOLUTION!!”
Most of the people I know who are like this where tech people at one point, but the went to middle management and lost track of technology. I think they somehow try to compensate that by jumping on every hype train to make it look like they are still on top of it without the understanding what the stuff they are hyping is actually good for.
No, it’s not that. He wants it in EVE because he imagines an alliance of 40,000 miners all mining crypto currency for him. Like, it wouldn’t just be associated with asteroid mining, it would also be tradeable on the market, and he wants it in this game because he wants to be able to exploit a playerbase of 100,000 or some fraction of that, working for him. To make him RL billions, rather than ISK billions.
You answered my questions so I will give my stance on this.
I’m 100% for this if;
You are willing to pay the worldwide energy cost for the most resource and energy burdensome technology ever released on the internet.
You are willing to pay for all the cost to every country on the planet for the health care increases caused by all those zombies sitting in chairs. Diabetes,Deep Vein Thrombosis,Stoke,Heart attack,Macular Degeneration and…
That doesn’t take into account the social cost for mental health.
You are willing to pay all the taxes to every country for the block chain’s generation value.
Just so you know. The current block chain technology is all ready out dated. Also The only reason it still exist is because countries want to see where it is going. So they can eventually have it be incorporated into the economy in a way that makes the recipients responsible to pay their fare share of taxable income.
I say you have some really stupid ambitions.
It has been realized that block chain technology does have some useful valid purposes, but it surely isn’t to be for an MMO. The days of the current block chain iteration are soon coming to a close. I won’t call you an idiot, though your ignorance is quite astounding.
Yes it does. Thats exactly who it caters for. It allows more people to become validated and take part in society.
Are firearms progress over swords? Militarily yes because they allow the physically weak by comparison to the swordsman to kill more than he does. In military terms, thats progress.
Bitcoin and ether are probably among the most traceable currencies there are, since every transaction is in the block-chain, visible to everyone. If you know who owns a specific bitcoin address you can see instantly how much money he/she has.
As for the regulation, this will come sooner rather than later. If there is an opportunity to leech taxes they can suddenly be very fast.
The issue you don’t understand is not that you don’t get the money back, but that the energy burned in the process is a complete waste and has a huge ecological impact.
Block-chain can be used for far more than just currency. But to decide if it is even useful you have to look at what it actually does. It is a distributed p2p database which grows continuously, has a huge lag and is incredibly wasteful. There is nothing in EVE which corresponds to this. EVE has a central low latency database which is hidden from the players for good reasons.
But why do I even talk to you. You came here because you wanted to throw some buzzwords around and because “hey, use block-chain, it is so cool” is actually an original idea you came up with and no one was ever thinking about that. Lol
Two things I still don’t get… You claim the currency is digital property, yet all digital property in game is owned by CCP per the EULA. So any we make would be owned by CCP. To get paid, wouldn’t we have to be CCP employees which means they would have to deal with mountains of tax forms? Why would they want that?
Also, if “mining” is based on free processor power, and EVE has to use some for game aspects, why play EVE if the goal is the most profit?
But… Since you can generate infinite number of tokens, you are creating currency out of nothing and that is not how currency works.
I mean I could create 20 BPCs of some ammo blueprint and that just becomes real world value with nothing backing it up? Isn’t that what leads to rampant inflation?
On the other side, I’ve seen ample people refuse to undock and fight for fear of losing a ship they could replace in 10 minutes of ratting. And adding real world value to that would kill so many fights. Why ruin the game that way?
