Redesigning Audio in Hangars

I haven’t heard anything in Eve for years.

Yes there is a thing called volume settings but it has been dumbed down so much you can’t pick and choose which sounds you want and don’t.

I find the sounds you refer to as really annoying after years of hearing the same thing and to turn them off you also have to turn off every other ambient sound as well. It has nothing to do with “impatience” it has to do with CCP not adding things that can be turned on or off without affecting other unrelated parts of the game - So it is easier to just turn it all off and not have to listen to the same droning bland sounds over and over and over.

Like these 20 second sounds bites - You say you dock up hundreds of times a day do you really want to hear - “All Ammarians, It’s time for prayers” HUNDREDS of times a day.
Or would you rather hear something about what is happening in the game that was not prerecorded and played every day for years.

Right. So, the problem isn’t the sounds. the problem is your temper.

So we’ve gone from MY Impatience to MY Temper - Simply because i say I don’t want to be bombarded with the same thing over and over and over.

Pretty sure it is you has the problem here, maybe you have been listening to the ambient sounds in Eve for too long and they have affected you psychologically, you can no longer tell the difference between someone who is angry and someone showing disapproval.

All I’m saying is - If there is to be something added to the game, make it relevant to game play for the masses not just a minority of RPr’s.

You want to listen to the same things hundreds of times a day, that’s your choice - I’m not impatient or bad tempered simply because i chose not to.

Really CCP?! I got it you want to give those mushrooms at the baseman an opportunity to shine. That is commendable but… doing more of the same is not going to cut it. Trust me, I’ve been there.

Here is my advice… repurpose them to do useful stuff. Things that will bring value to the game. If audio is their field of expertise, how about implementing voice commands? For example, “undock”, "warp to ", “lock enemies”, “orbit target at five kilometers”, “keep at distance at X”, etc. That will make us players feel like true captains rather than having to push all the buttons ourselves and on top of that it goes with current trends where even refrigerator are able to take voice commands.

If you have people there that can do programming other than audio stuff, there is so much you can pick from to make EVE more playable. Without much elaboration here is my short list:

  • Allow to Export/Import client settings so players can share and implement same settings among multiple alts/accounts.

  • Provide shortcuts for drone groups, i.e. combat, salvage, EWar or simply allow multiple drone groups to be assigned a different shortcut.

  • Allow all missions to be accepted remotely (jumps away limited by region and by some skill maybe). You don’t gain anything from having pilots waste precious time traveling to accept missions that do not require pick up/drop offs.

  • Implement some sort of short range jump device. This will reduce traveling time considerably and those of us who only have an hour or two to enjoy the game, will be able to use their time more productively. EVE is supposed to be thousands of years in future and still it feels like stone age when it comes to traveling. Yeah, I know this kinda changes game mechanics… well do you prefer EVE to die being loyal to its lore or can you reconsider having a bit of innovation now and then?

I will stop here since the topic is audio but, really guys, don’t waste your time nor ours on useless features. There is so much you can do to keep this EVE that we all love alive!

Good day; as per Redesigning Audio in Hangars,
First, let me compliment eveo for the general audio, it’s already perfect.
Great things don’t need be changed just for the sake of it.
I suggest increasing the volume level (its current max level isn’t loud enough),
and increase the variety in the sound loop (more different sounds to a location).
Hint: Some real bird sounds (songs), or segments of them,
do present amazing computer bips & buz, once they are treated or replicated
(as an alternative to r2d2 types of sounds).
Aside from that, I think the current sounding is awesome.
Perhaps allow the User to upload their own sound-files (wav),
to certain features…
Thanks for EVEO!

The thing I love about this change is that they’re linking the audio to the number of players in the station. The more they can link audio to player activity the better. Please play messages about sending a repair team when someone repairs their ship. Or announce something about dispatching a cargo carrier when someone makes a purchase on the market.

added more harsh annoying sounds. ok, another function for unconditional switching off.

In all honesty, they are OVERWHELMING, more than before… and it is a problem.

I mean, I login sometimes just to check industry/chat/market but I use Mumble/TS/Discord for vocal comms to speak of anything or everything. With this, well… Seriously, I won’t go in the settings to raise/lower the game volume all the time I dock just because this redesign will cover vocal comms more than before.

Long ago, you added the Advanced Audio Settings panel with high granular control who was clearly the BEST idea in the audio department, so much that I reactivated the sound in EVE. If it was still existing today, I would just lower the “Station Interior” setting and voila… but of course, you nerfed them despite the fact that we didn’t appreciate it : https://forums-archive.eveonline.com/topic/519006/

So or I have to lower/remove all sounds about Stargates/Wormholes/Station Exterior/Station Interior/Planets/General Atmosphere (in short, lower the actual Atmosphere setting) just to not be annoyed, or I should maintain the whole sound engine as OFF.

I will maintain all as OFF, for more reasons than before.

Do you know the meme “EVE has sound?” ? Because clearly, it is better to play without… You just don’t get why. AAS was great, and it would avoid any trouble generated by any redesign who would or wouldn’t be liked by the players.

11 years ingame, 9 years without sound. Going for the decade threshold. I am close !

Sounds are awesome, thanks for taking these into consideration,
an idea to make these, not only help immersion into the environment that we are, but also something really functional , information that can be used, like some players have already suggested , sounds that aware the capsuleer of possible threats, market offers, or any other information that actually can be useful for the player.

Station announcements that could inform of current local market offers:

Examples:
Gallente:
a short period market offer :

“There are limited time offers of Quafe Zero at this station "
" Special offer ! Federation Navy Comet only 16 millions ISK here, get yours now!”

Caldari
a local threat:
Upon outlaws engaging anyone in local where there is Concord intervention :

“Attention miners! be aware, suspect criminals have been detected operating at asteroid belt 1 , concord officers are patrolling the area.”

Minmatar :

Technical information about ships, modules and consumables :
“Armor plates can improve the resistance of your ship whilst reducing agility”

Market offers:
“Attention capsuleers! , there are currently various low cost booster offers available at this station”

Warfare low security systems
Amarr :
“Attention warriors Minmatar pilots have been detected in the vicinity”
“Roaming fleets are being engaged by Amarr officers at the Amarr Large Complex, All Empire military personnel is requested to undock and assist inmediately”

High security Empire space
“Drug smugglers will be prosecuted at Empire Space”

I tried to think about many more phrases that could be awesome, but already here many other players had made awesome suggestions like the ones of the hangars being unavailable for several reasons… indistinctly these informational phrases can be set for each faction, to achieve this, it might mean a bit of more of a programming effort than just simple phrases that do not really help and , as some already complained, can be annoying, less, of course , when these contain quite useful information passed to the player at a given time when the thing is happening, this might make a more interesting , interactive and responsive station sounds.

“Fantasy is okay, but when it is too much, it becomes annoying. Let’s be more realistic.”

Not to say, unless these sounds are actually useful to the player, I cannot see the point in improving them.

"Pointed! "

I like this idea! Jita would be a loud drone of activity, while slow places would give an attacker a warning of when someone undocked!

BTW… talking about sound… not wanting to get off topic here but I take this opportunity to question something about the music, since the music is sound right?
I’ve been years wondering… I put the music down… but, is it still running? I mean… since you removed also the music player years ago, there is no way to stop it… only to put the sound down… but I believe this is making the client computer work, right? decoding music that is not being heard is a waste of computing resource … I would love to see a STOP button for the music , I am pretty sure that it can be done, there is no limits in programming, anything can be done, who says no, is just incompetent… please STOP button instead… taking volumes down doesn’t look like stopping it…

“Like covering your ears when someone shouts doesn’t mean they stop shouting…”

“Why programmers are so dumb”

Pointed!

I’m definitely loving the possible new sounds for both the Caldari and Minmatar stations. It may go without saying, but I imagine that Amarr stations should be a combination of indistinct chants or prayers and sounds recorded in cathedrals, but with a bit of tweaking to mimic the change from sounds in a stone structure to the same sounds in a metallic structure.

Gallente stations may sound best as a wild party, and assuming you could get players’ permissions, EVE Vegas might be the perfect place to grab some rather revelrous recordings.

I’ve never thought of Minmatar sounding prim and proper whilst duct taping rusty ship panels together. Perhaps something a little heavier on slang with a different dialect - like how The Expanse gave the Belters their own slang and dialect. Trust the rust and all…

I would like to see the old station interiors(the ones you abandoned) get redone and re-implemented. Bring back walking around in your apartment…

This was great! I totally agree.

Really enjoy you doing this. One area I’d like to see you also visit is the sounds at gates - its the same for every one on a loop!

Anyway, here are some ideas I had and did the best I could to come up with something:

Amarr - “Notice to all pilots, from 1600-1800 hours all docking will be suspended for the Chancellor’s visit to the station. All heavy repairs and industry will also also be suspended during this time.”
Amarr - “Attention, level 3 is on lockdown due to a prison riot of minmatar servants. Police forces have been dispatched and we anticipate level 3 will open shortly. Thank you for your patience.”
Amarr - Agree with other posters to bring back the prayer chants. Perhaps something like “Current services are being held on level 25”
Caldari - “War is peace; unity is strenth; power is absolute” - “Who controls the past, controls the future” - “The state is watching you” - “What’s good for the corporation is good for the state, and you” - “Ask yourself today - Am I essential?” - basically some variation of 1984 quotes that seeks to keep the population in line with its power but more consistent with EVE
Caldari - “Welcome to station brought to you buy the Corporation - <slogan?> Currently level 5 is hosting horse racing and our skydeck on level 7 is hosting the Caldari shuttle expo!”
Caldari - “Caldari military are invited to visit the service recreation areao in Sector 3 of Level 29”
Gallente - “Drink Quafe? Now Drink Quafe Zero, the performance drink with the powers of a booster! Enjoy the benefits of increased reflexes with none of the drawbacks!” (stole from description of Quafe Zero)
Gallente - “The Gallente Federation welcomes representatives from the Sisters of EVE and Minmatar Republic to for the Interstellar council on Human rights. Please enjoy your stay”
Minmatar - “Rust extraction crew 14 to hanger bay 7A for clean up. Rust extraction crew 14 to hanger bay 7A for clean up. Thank you.”
Minmatar - “Will the captain and crew of the Tempest Battleship ‘Clear Skies’ please report to hanger bay 14 for a visitor”

FW Recruitment (like to see something based on the stations that have militia offices for recruitment adverts)

Amarr - “Faith determines our power; power defines our destiny. Join the Empire and drive the heathens from what is rightfully ours. Join the militia today.”

Caldari - “The State needs strength. The State needs commitment. The State needs you. Join the war, defend the state, and etch your place in history today. See a local Militia recruiter to learn more.”

Gallente - "The advancements of human inginuity in New Eden can only be achieved by harnessing the diversity and intellect of a free people. Today there are those that seek to supplant our liberty, enslave our people, and control our destiny. Fight for Freedom, fight for Gallente! Visit a militia recruiter today!

Minmatar - “We’ve survived the enslavement of our people by the Amarr but now our communities are threatened again. protect your bloodline, support your tribe, defend your people. See a militia recruiter now to fight!”

I had a dumb idea. When Citadels are under attack, you can have a PA system reporting impending doom:

Hull at 50% “Structural Integrity Failing! This is Not a Drill”

Hull at 10% “Main Bulkheads just blew, all crew hit the life pods!”

That would be kinda cool
