Redesigning Audio in Hangars

We all live in the yellow submarine…

Instead of series of static lines, implement a “reader” so that you can build a database of sentences to be used, that can be updated easily when desirable. Allowing customization of the station environment for events like the Halloween thing. Adverts for new skins, and so on. Scope news audio running in the background.

While its a nice idea to have new stuff in the hangars, it will get old eventually, so would be a good idea to have an opportunity to update it on a whim. Also, why just ask for messages in text, we have microphones, I bet people suggesting the lines have a certain kind of delivery for them in mind as well, and would be pretty epic for players to be immortalized in the game station voices.

For Caldari hangars:

“Vagrancy is a crime. Anyone found sleeping in public spaces will be removed from the station.”

“Come to Fast and Nasty for the best Minmatar bread-soup on a budget!”

A reference to my favorite EVE Chronicle, Jita 4-4

For Caldari Hangars

“Corporate policy dictates that station speed limits be adhered to at all times.”
“Raven - Charlie Charlie Papa Heavy - you are cleared for automated docking procedures, please head to docking port 47 on Sub Level 8.”
“CalNav Heavy 331 - cleared for undocking, please maintain safespeeds at all times!”
“Attention to all spacecraft undocking from Wing 47 Left - Kaal Super Kilo 71 is proceeding through the exit tunnel, maintain 250 meter clearance at all times.”
“We are currently experiencing technical difficulties in docking gates Charlie 3 to Delta 7 - all spacecraft currently docked in those gates should contact Scotty the docking manager within the next 6 hours.”

Numbers can be changed or phonetics swapped - i’m just taking a bit of inspiration from my time in a cockpit!

Attention! If you are the owner of the Raven fit with the following— *Becomes inaudible garbling here with a wacky fit word thrown in like “armor” or " three artillery". — you are in a no docking zone!

The part after the garbling could be left out or kept depending on length restrictions.

Perhaps suggested already but how about something more useful… such as sounds that reflect what’s happening outside the station, especially if it’s under attack:

An alarm and distant bang, thumps and explosions and people yelling etc.

Perhaps a timer alarm.

Background sound’s could also reflect the type of structure and power status…a athanor drilling hum, factory sounds reflecting the types and rigs etc

Dimmed lighting and quiet or perhaps low sound’s like distant water dripping is under low power–or even a different alarm if station getting low on fuel.

These sounds will only be in Highsec and Lowsec stations owned by factions - The majority of structures throughout New Eden won’t have them, thank BoB.

Would really love to hear an official Quafe jingle in Quafe stations, and similar ads for other basic trade goods. Protein delicacies, also springs to mind.

“Quafe, for those who want more in life.”
“In the heat of the moment, Quafe.”
“Quafe Zero: Multiply your eternity by Zero!”

“Try new! Dazzleberry Quafe in a bottle near you.”

To the owner of the Burst in hanger 742c. The number three plasma coil for your drive is going to fail. You need to pick up the following items. Paper clips, superglue, styrofoam packing peanuts, a bottle of cola, 2 feet of bailing wire.

And a roll of Duct Tape.

For example, we want Minmatar to use a foundry background feel that is mixed with loads of random and diverse low-tech sound emitters: big pipes adding low frequencies, welding at different distances and metal scraping to make the environment more alive and sounding overall metallic and rusty. To make it really unique, the team went on a field recording trip to a big steam factory in the UK where they recorded specific and unique sounding metal and machinery sounds

I guess you must be incorporating those unique sounds at a later time. Your little 36 second clip doesn’t sound like any factory i’ve ever been, in fact it just sounds like “noise” - much like the current effects.

Oh and just a little hint for audio specialists - Adding voice over “noise” is really difficult unless the voice is at a much louder level than background noise - Both of the “placeholders” leave everything to be desired - Minmatar, the only thing that is legible was “thank you”. Caldari, “attention please” was it, the rest disappeared into the background noise.

What i would like to see/hear is things about what’s going on in Eve - Not some random “fiction” put in just for the sake of it. You yourself in the blog stated this is going to be something for the coming decade of Eve - It needs to be done RIGHT.

Whatever is put in NOW will be there for a very long time, if you are going to go through with this, keep in mind - Eve sound needs to be adjustable NOT just ‘on’ ‘off’ switches or many WILL just turn it ALL off to avoid unwanted background noise.
Sitting in a structure the last thing i want is to have my ability to talk to other players on voice comms or planning my next adventure messed up by irrelevant background noise.

Eve is a futuristic game, it is supposed to be an adventure into the unknown - Listening to pipes banging (if that’s what it was) and some random rising and sinking in volume sound effect - Really doesn’t fit with a space adventure.

Finally - You state the background noise will increase and decrease depending on how busy a structure is and external factors - Have you thought about how horribly noisy this would make trade hubs, where there is often more players in one place than over the rest of the game?

I don’t expect an answer here but if you’d like to discuss this you can Evemail me with your discord ID or a TS or something. I’d gladly get up at 2am to discuss my ideas.
Like; streaming pod casts, there is some great player driven content and information out there - Tap into it. New Eden stations could have their own TV broadcasts made up of the many player made podcasts, video howto’s, etc.
