I was lurking in Rookie Chat earlier today, when a player said, they were not “new” and asked the ISD to chat ban them. The ISD told them they don’t or can’t ban on request. Other users chimed in telling them, they must wait 30 days and then Rookie Chat won’t automatically open. Others stated it was impossible, the chat would continue to open for 30 days, and the banned player would not be able to post in chat.
It might be a good idea to force the first character into Rookie Chat and mark the other two as complete? Not sure how difficult that would be to engineer the boolean variable into the current database. However I never saw much wrong being stuck with the Rookie chat for 30 days on all of my characters.
I don’t know why they insisted on getting banned. There is a simple two click process to close the tab for the remainder of the session. Switching to local or corp channel would hide the chat. Seems very extreme to be begging the ISD to get banned to turn the chat off.
Because it is annoying to have to do that every day you log in. It also jumps into focus when you log in, and does not stay hidden after a login when you minimized it in the last session.
AFAIK they can immediately mute the spammers without much warning. However this doesn’t make the chat window close. It has been a long time since I was in rookie chat. All they really needed to do was spam and they would get muted.
I think they set it up as “if ( days_old -lt 31 ) then open_rookie_chat” not as a boolean variable which is true/false or on/off. They would break something attempting to fix it.
Or just separate the Rookie Chat window, make it small, drag it to the right and place it at the bottom of the screen so only the little bit at the top you use to drag it remains, click the 3 dots menu, Lock Window Size and Position, and minimise. I do this with corp chats all the time. With my DScan window (when undocked) or the Station Panel (docked) sitting on top of where I left the chat window, it’s effectively gone.
This is basically so that I can have Local as the only visible chat window, as I don’t want to switch tabs or have two chats on screen taking up space
One of my friends who duel screens asked, if it could be dragged to another window. It would be nice, if Eve had undockable window displays for such an option. I like the idea of hiding it. I use 100% opacity on my Eve windows, therefor I could lock its position behind the overview and I would never see chat at all.
It still seems rather sad people don’t care for the chat all that much. Local chat seems pointless unless you are in a system where players are willing to chat. It would be nice to have a regional chat and limited global chat. Then CCP could sell global chat shout outs and make some money.
i thought the rookie chat was like jita local, full of “sign for the 1m free skillpoint” and that link for the chinese pc killer and many many hyperscam bot spam
what is that sh*t anyway? I once clicked on it and there was some ugly chinese guy talking some crap in chinese on toilet or what, and he spams it now in Jita every day under new alt
similar to the guy that roams around whole EVE and posting two links into local - and warns to not click on the first link he is posting, which I clicked once and it was some stupid video about shooting small rocket into air where it exploded into chicken binded to parachute which ten landed and ran away… why do they post this crap?
As far as I know, you’re not allowed to post sp/scam, contracts, any other kinds of sale posts, or do recruiting in the rookie chat. You’d get kicked out immediately.
