Absolutely! I agree! They are trying! However, I also feel that they aren’t listening when testers tell them things like “Hey, this is pretty fun, but the rewards suck.” There seems to be some sort of irrational fear against actually having a wide variety of different PvE experiences with good rewards.
Fun is good. We should have more of it in Eve, and RW had / has the potential to be great fun. But players also want to be rewarded. I’ll never understand why in Eve the things that tend to make the most ISK are the things that are tragically monotonous, and the things with lower level rewards can actually be fun. In fact, the most obvious example is PvP, which is generally a negative ISK experience, but also can be some of the most fun you’ll have in the game.
See, this is something that has always bothered me about CCP development efforts. Instead of seeing the potential to market outside their current player base, and attract more customers, they try to force everyone into doing what they (CCP) think they should be doing - which is null sec PvP.
Listen, null sec PvP can be fun. I’ve seen it. Enjoyed it. The problem is that the costs of that hour or two of fun is staggering. Just lost your 2 billion ISK ship in the most fun fight you’ve ever seen? Great! Get back to us when you’ve managed to rat / mine / plex your way back to that 2 billion ISK again!
Why can’t we have fun, and make ISK doing it in a variety of different ways? Why must I do an “un-fun” thing in order to do the “fun” thing? It just doesn’t make sense.
