Returning after more than a decade

Returning after 14 years away. I’ve forgotten everything. Have 6 alts, a jump freighter and tons of valuable crap. I’m afraid that I’ll do something stupid in the first 5 minutes after logging in and lose something valuable. Is there a way to review if a toon is in high sec or not before logging in? For that matter, will the simple act of logging in put me at risk? I’ve forgotten what the login screen offers. Do I get a chance to review stuff or does logging in dump me right into space? I seem to remember some of my alts liked to hang out at unowned space stations in lowsec (null?), but I’ve heard all stations are now player-owned, so I’m worried I might be docked inside a hostile station. I don’t remember how to use comms, dock up, run away. It is going to take many hours to relearn the basics of how to walk.
What’s the best way to get started again without losing something major? I’ll never forget losing the best ship in the game during the first 5 minutes after re-entering another game because I didn’t remember the controls and the rules had changed while I was away. Thanks!

There is a setting in the launcher that will make sure you end up in the character selection screen when you click the “PLAY NOW” button:

Make sure this is enabled first.

In the Character Selection screen you will be able to see what ship and which system the character is. If it’s docked up somewhere it will be shown there as well.

Welcome back and good luck.

If you’ve been away for that long, my suggestion would be to set up a free (alpha) account, and give yourself at least a few weeks to learn the basics again and get info on all the significant changes that took place.

Whatever you do, don’t undock your JF, lol.

Some of your stuff may be in “asset safety”. No hurries !

Aye! It is quite overwhelming! Last week I couldn’t have named the four main factions in this game. Slowly words like Sanshas, Sisters, MJD, and Armor Tanking are starting to seep back into my consciousness, but it is going to take several weeks of daily play to get even the basics back!!

I was in pretty deep with 6 alts, 2 of them with ~40M SP each and 4 with ~5M SP each. I was heavily into PI (solo building Jump Bridges), and I think PI will be the fastest to relearn, even if I need to build something else now that JB are obsolete. But I was into everything! First thing I’m doing is insuring my Nightmares and JF and spending hours a day reading. So tempting to trash it all and start over! So much equipment in low/null sec. So many loose ends to tie up! For example, where are the BPs I was researching? I don’t even remember how to search for them! I did find 1k Plex sitting in a station a few dozen jumps away… WHERE TO EVEN START?! Right now, everyone is just hanging out in safe stations and the 2 alts who are under 5M SP are training alpha (combat defense) skills.

  1. The BP’s are easy to find, either from a search in your Personal Items (alt+T) window, or directly in the Industry window’s bottom half:

  2. A word on PLEX: you will notice a “PLEX Vault” in your inventory. This is shared amongst all characters on the same account. It’s primary function is to avoid having to transport PLEX as physical items inside ship cargo holds. Instead you can drag the physical plex into that vault, so they become just a number. In case you ever do need physical plex, you can drag it out of the vault again into a station hangar. The plex vault also works with the NES (the New Eden Store, the ingame shop for things like cosmetics and skins for plex).

  3. Don’t be in a hurry to start collecting low/nullsec stuff. I remember even building a blockade runner just to get the stuff out (in my case mostly corp stuff, and a lot of it), and scouting like a paranoiac

I do see a blockade runner featured prominently among my ships. I don’t remember how to use it, though! Anyway, thanks for the advice!! Much appreciated!!
